Arroyo HR Bwahahaha!

He maybe inconsistant sometimes, but I sure do love having Mr. "we're together again" on this team.

Taking the Marlins' recent history out of the equation, it's hard to buy into them given this year's stats alone. They are 12th in the league in ERA, in a pitchers' park. Their staff is 15th out of 16 teams in walking batters. On the offensive side, they rate first in home runs and slugging percentage, but 14th in drawing walks and 12th in OBP. I would assume that their hitting success will wane as their hacking style catches up to them. Unfortunately, the Phillies' staff isn't the type to exploit that, except maybe Moyer on the mound tonight (14 up, 14 down as of this writing).

I wouldn't discount the Brewers, either. Gallardo's injury seemingly erased them from contention in the minds of many, but they've been playing better and with the spotlight off of them, I can see them making a run.

And again, this is why Omar Minaya needs to go. Considering how horrid the bullpen was last season, and the only major addition was Matt Wise who has so far spent more time ON the DL than off of it, he made a miscalculation of gigantic proportions.

And Wagner, Wagner, Wagner. Now three consecutive blown saves. His record was five for Houston back in 2000. At the very least, maybe he can add a milestone to his career this year.

They'll have to do it with assloads of scoring, like they did today, because I don't trust their pitching beyond Ben Sheets (who has been awesome this year), and Ned Yost will figure out ways to cost them close games. Hart/Braun/Fielder/Cameron are scary, though, and not just scary as in "Corey Hart has an ass for a face." I think they'll win 83 at worst.

Realistically speaking, it's either the D-Bags or the Dodgers coming out of the West. I still think the Rockies will make a run but fall short, but I refuse to believe that the Padres and Giants are threats. Those are some bad outfits.

Well, I dislike them because of the pathetic display of their fans during last year's playoffs and the fact that their announce team may very well be the most grating on Earth. Also, their ballpark is goofy.

Nothing against the players themselves, except for fake-hustling moron Eric Byrnes.

1. Not particularly baseball-smart fans

2. They keep playing this "rattling" sound to rally the crowd that sounds like God taking a leak

3. I hate Interchangeable White Guy teams like the pre-'08 Houston Astros (the Braves are trending hard in this direction. I'm pretty sure half the team is from Georgia). Conor Jackson? What kind of pansy-ass WASP name is Conor, anyway?

4. Eric Byrnes is retarded, and the least accomplished of the GRR BASEBALL IS EXTREME SPORTS douchebags like Rowand and Swisher

5. I can't stand Jose Valverde, but that cunt's gone now!

Every time I see Eric Byrnes' name, I remember he's the reason Carlos Quentin is now in Chicago and all the DBacks have to show for it are some extra bats, pine tar, and gimpy corner outfielder.

Every time I see his name I think of this awful fox saturday baseball skit called "Byrning Questions" that featured Byrnes as host of this wacky game show. He was also the two contestants and the "jury" of six. I thought I was in hell.

Yankees finally sent Shelley Duncan back to AAA. He hadn't had at at-bat since May. And he sucked up until then.

Hard to get going when you get no playing time. Duncan is 28, I wish the Yankees would trade him elsewhere so he could get steady time.

A week and a half ago, Dandy (I think) made a post mentioning that the NL East would get tighter over the next week. This is not to boast about things. Rather, I notice that all six divisions and even the wild card race have clear leaders. The BoSox have pulled ahead of the Rays. The White Sox went on a tear. The Angels established a five game lead. The Cubs are well ahead. The Dbacks have stumbled but the West is sub-.500.

Scott Olsen I think may become a very good pitcher if he ever leaves Florida. Of course with Cantu and Hanley Ramirez behind him, and Luis Gonzalez in left, his defense is awful. Besides that, he looks very uncomfortable pitching in the heat. By the end of the game, he was DRENCHED in sweat to the point where it was pouring off the brim of his hat. The same thing happened in a Phillies/Marlins game last year. It can not be easy for a Michigan kid to pitch in Miami, and I can understand.

Yes, that was me, al. It wasn't for this week, it was over a 3 day period that ended last Thursday night. That was the first 3 games of the Reds/Phil matchup, the Braves were playing at home, and the Mets were facing San Fran. My quote was, IIRC, that it would be interesting to see who was in second place. I was expecting it to be a logjam for the second slot.

Nice performance by Harang tonight against the Sox. Of his 7 innings, 5 were three up, three down. He allowed a 2 out bloop single to Sean Casy in the 7th, and he gave up a double and two singles in the 4th.

118 pitches, 78 for strikes.

Heres a stat for you Al After tonight, the Phillies will officially lead all of baseball in runs scored on the road. Also, as of now (if they dont score anymore in the 9th), they've scored 185 runs at home and 188 runs on the road.
