Coffin Surfer 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 Bubba HoTep -Coscarelli 2002 A great oddball premise made even better by the strange dignity that Coscarelli, Davis, and surprisingly even Campbell bring to the "out there" characters and script. A very enjoyable and funny movie with more heart and emotional weight than you'd expect given the subject matter; I can't say I've seen another movie that works quite like this one. Aero 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2008 Ghostbusters, Reitman, 1984 I was obsessed with Ghostbusters when I was a kid, even though the first movie came out three years before I was born. I had the toys, watched the cartoon, and dressed as a ghostbuster for Halloween on more than one occasion. I also watched the movie almost everyday. How could I not have this movie on my island? It was always a great movie when I was little, but it's one of those movies that gets better later on when you're older as you actually start to get all the jokes. Spirited Away I have to have at least one animated feature, and while there's another one I'm eying I definitely need to get some Miyazaki first. This is just gorgeous to look at, and proof that hand-drawn animation can still be every bit as beautiful and awe-inspiring as CGI. I'm something of an aquaphile, and I own shark week dvds, and I guess this movie is probably why. All three leads rule, but particularly Robert Shaw. I totally dig the mayor too. "Has anyone ever had pet names for you, Dave?" "Yeah. My old girlfriend used to like to call me funny names. Iron BUTT. Boner. Once she even called me... asshole." The first time I saw it was when I was about 5-6 years old, but I watched the edited version shown on TV. We actually taped it, minus commercials, and that was the version I watched a lot when I was a kid. Years later, I was exposed to the REAL version. It was pretty shocking what I had missed. Even at like 7 years old, I would just die laughing at Kurtwood Smith ("You probably don't think I'm a very nice guy." - look in a dictionary under stoneface.
