Dandy Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 The Dark Knight is going to do $150 M opening.
BlackFlagg Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 wow, only 35 mil opening for Hellboy, does not bode well for it's second week with Dark Knight opening
bob_barron Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Wow, only 35 mil opening for Hellboy, does not bode well for it's [sic] second week with Dark Knight opening  Only? That's a great opening for Hellboy.
Mecha Mummy Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Isn't that like ten million better than the first Hellboy did on opening weekend?
Gary Floyd Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 That's awesome. The director said if this one was a hit, then he'd try to get Bruce Campbell in the 3rd one. Guess this bodes well. Â
bob_barron Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Yes, Hellboy 1 opened to 23 million in 2004, which adjusted for inflation is about 25.5 mil
King Kamala Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Well I was wrong. All week, I was crowing to my friends how Hellboy II would be way better off as a Fall release and would be lucky to match the opening weekend box office gross of the first one. Â Â I'm the same dumbass that predicted The Matrix would be Johnny Mneumonic redux.
bob_barron Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 I thought the Sixth Sense would bomb. Â Hell, I thought Meet Dave would do really well this weekend!
Mecha Mummy Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 I knew Meet Dave was fucked the moment The Love Guru bombed.
King Kamala Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Did you really think Meet Dave would be a big hit, Barron? I can count on one hand how many times I've seen it advertised and all of those occassions were in the past week.
bob_barron Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 I thought it would have a solid opening weekend because of Eddie's name. Granted, it looked terrible, but so does every other Eddie movie. Â I think the big problem with Meet Dave is that the trailers and ads didn't really explain what the movie was even about. Something about Eddie Murphy in Eddie Murphy?
cabbageboy Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 I'm actually a bit perplexed that Hancock didn't have some massive 60%+ drop off. Now next week? Dark Knight destroys everything in its path and it I almost feel sorry for Hellboy 2 since it will get stomped and it was a really great sequel. Â Meet Dave....all the earmarks of a typical Eddie Murphy flop. No shock there.
ZGangsta Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 The Dark Knight is going to do $150 M opening. Great, now it's a flop when it doesn't break opening records. Thanks internet.
Dandy Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 My opinion causes that reaction from you? I am exaggerating and embellishing. It would be awesome if it did that well, but why would it be a flop if it didn't reach that mark? Â I was commenting on the fact that no other movie is making over $35 M this week, so it looks like lower competition for TDK.
Mik Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 I've actually seen that number predicted. $150M is a lot but it's not impossible.
bob_barron Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 150 mil is basically the record. I still don't know if it will go that high, but I think my earlier pessimism in the Batman thread about its opening weekend was probably off
ZGangsta Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 My opinion causes that reaction from you? I am exaggerating and embellishing. It would be awesome if it did that well, but why would it be a flop if it didn't reach that mark? Â I was commenting on the fact that no other movie is making over $35 M this week, so it looks like lower competition for TDK. No, of course it would be awesome. It just seems that the expectations for how much money The Dark Knight will do (yes I've seen 150 million around a lot) keep getting higher and higher and people are way too quick these days to label something that doesn't meet outrageous expectations a 'flop.'
fazzle Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 I'm not gonna go anywhere near that high, but I'd be STUNNED if it opened to less than $85 million
Brett Favre Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 It's going to make 200 million in the weekend. Â BTW, I felt bad for the people promoting Meet Dave in like Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien. Everyone in the room knew that movie would suck, and to explain the plot and stuff, ugh, so awkward.
fazzle Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 It's going to make 200 million in the weekend. Â You can't seriously believe that, can you? Â There's only ever been one weekend where all the top 12 COMBINED made over $200 million. Â
LaParkaMarka Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 It's going to make 200 million in the weekend. Â You can't seriously believe that, can you? Â There's only ever been one weekend where all the top 12 COMBINED made over $200 million. Â Dark Knight is going to make $300 million this weekend (e5)
bob_barron Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 It's going to make 200 million in the weekend. Â No. Â That's not possible. Â
Brett Favre Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 It's going to make 200 million in the weekend. Â No. Â That's not possible. Â Â ANYTHING IS POSSIBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
ANKLELOCK Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Dark Knight is going to make enough to pay off the national debt.
cabbageboy Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 Okay, I know The Dark Knight will rule and all but let's put a few things in perspective here. The biggest 3 day opening ever was for Spider-Man 3 last year at 151 million. The 2nd highest movie that week was Disturbia (which had been out for a long while) at 5 million. In other words there was nothing out at all. Â Right now? Hellboy 2 and Hancock are direct competitors in the superhero genre. Wanted is another action movie that is out and still doing fairly well. Wall-E is doing well. And so on. This is also the 6th Batman feature film since 1989, with the last film making 205 million domestic (371 worldwide). It will be fortunate to make what Iron Man and Indiana Jones made this year, maybe slightly more.
The Niggardly King Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 oh man, that journey to the center of the earth really was a huge hit... whoever said that would make 40+ million and be #1 this weekend needs to be slapped.
Warriorfan Posted July 14, 2008 Report Posted July 14, 2008 125.5 million for The Dark knight opening weekend.
