Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 The October 4th show will be called Day of Reckoning and will feature Arlovski vs Barnett as the main event, winner getting a shot at Fedor's title. Also rumored to be on the card is Tito Ortiz vs Babalu and Matt Lindland vs Vitor Belfort.

Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 How does everyone see the Belfort/Lindland fight going? To me this is a hard fight to predict.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 Vitor has been so 50/50 lately that I can't see him winning this one. Wonder if they can keep up with paying guys 10x in some cases what the UFC would have
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 Given how Lindland looked in his fight on the first show, compared to Vitor, I'd say Vitor knocks him flat out somewhere around round two. It's VITOR though. Who knows. The main event interests me...Josh has been touted as the "ONE GUY~!" who might be able to stop Fedor for years now, against someone who really *was* a dream fight with Fedor a few years ago in Arlovski. Their both exceptionally well rounded. If Arlovski comes in like he did against Rothwell, I'd actually pick him. If he comes in like he had been coming in, then Josh will catch him. All depends on what type of fight it is. If it's a high speed slugfest, I'd favor Arlovski due to his speed, but if Josh can keep it somewhat relatively slow paced and get the fight down he could win. That should be one fun fight though. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 This is the perfect month for this show cause I think (I could be wrong) that October is the month of UFC 89 which is "headlined" by Leben vs. Bisping(LOL). It's also overseas I think which means tape delay anyway.....so umm yeah Affliction all the way in October!!!
Mik 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 I'm personally pretty excited for UFC 89... especially since it's free. Jay White/Roy Nelson is going to be added to this card. Some might be saying Jay White, who? He's a trainer at Xtreme Couture and sports an impressive 2-5 record. If this wasn't an Affliction card I'd wonder why Big Country even accepted the fight but I'm sure Tom Attencio will pay him enough to be covered in turkey gravy year round. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 I'm personally pretty excited for UFC 89... especially since it's free. Yeah, NoCalMike has no room to bitch about the main event. It does make a lot of sense to have your biggest English MMA star main event a card in England, against one of the top MW contenders right now. I personally think it's a very good main event to headline a free TV show, and add to the fact the undercard is pretty stacked as well.
Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 89 > 90 thus far. 89 is pretty stacked, really. Bisping/Leben probably won't have major ramifications (If Bisping wins Icould see him challenging next though) but should be all kinds of fun. Bisping's manic attack against Leben's "Zombie-fu". Lyoto and Silva has massive repercussions. Both are undefeated, and you have the methodical striker in Lyoto vs. the "KO Artist" in Silva. On top of that, their both on pretty big winstreaks. That's an interesting fight. I dunno much about Luis Cane, but I do know he's facing Sokoudjou. No matter what, that'll rule. Akihiro Gono. Nuff said. And Vera/Jardine is very interesting. Jardine badly needs the win after being absolutely humbled by Silva, while Vera can't afford to lose while he's establishing himself.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2008 Well shit, my bad I didn't know that UFC 89 is free. Are you guys absolutely certain about this, has it been confirmed? If so, then I will be watching 89 regardless, and the real decision is between getting Affliction or UFC 90.

Hawkius Maximus 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 They should put UFC 90 on free TV too. No matter what exposure Silva got from that last fight, Cote aint drawing against him. That's not saying Cote's a bad fight, it's just he has no name power as it is right now. Okami probably wouldn't have done any better (Cote atleast speaks English) The rest of the card doesn't look that great either, which is odd, considering how stacked 89 is. Which again, is odd since the show is only a week later or so. They seriously can't move say...Vera/Jardine to shore up this card a little? Would that change anything? Scheduling two shows within a week of each other is a dumb move in the first place. To make the one on PPV a weaker card is even dumber.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 The best part of the event will be Vladdy beating Minotoro again. You wouldn't rather see him in WEC taking Cantwell's title away on his 1st defence?
Warriorfan 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 Belfort vs Lindland is very hard to call. I think Vitor still has the hand speed and reflexes to elude and hurt Lindland but his mindset is always the x-factor. Lindland didn't look good in his last fight but getting Belfort as a scalp might be enough motivation to have a great performance. I think Belfort catches him a combination in the second and knocks him out.
Warriorfan 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 If Vitor wins and Ortiz beats Babalu; I would love to see a rematch between the two. I think Belfort was robbed in that previous fight.

Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 Tito pulled a no-show at the press conference today but Affliction did make Roy Nelson vs Jay White and Matt Lindland vs Vitor Belfort official as well as announcing that they've landed Chris Horodecki who will be making his debut for the promotion at the October show. Card so far looks like... Josh Barnett vs Andrei Arlovski- Winner gets a title shot against Fedor Roy Nelson vs Jay White Matt Lindland vs Vitor Belfort Antonio Rogerio Noguiera vs Vladymir Matushenko Marc Hominick vs TBA Babalu vs TBA Chris Horodecki vs TBA Jay Heiron vs TBA Mike Pyle vs TBA
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 I heard the Belfort/Lindland fight might not happen because of a hand injury Belfort has.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 I heard that too but if that's the case I can't see why Affliction announced it today instead of just keeping mum on the subject.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2008 The best part of the event will be Vladdy beating Minotoro again. You wouldn't rather see him in WEC taking Cantwell's title away on his 1st defence? People actually care about Minotoro, or at least have some sort of respect for the guy. The only way Vladimir winning the WEC LHW title has any meaning is if it involves beating Cantwell, Stann and Anthony Macias (3-0, baby!) in a one-night gauntlet. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2008 Tong, where would you rank Vladdy in the division? Not necessarily a number rank, but how do you think he'd stand with some of the divisions more notables?
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2008 Tong, where would you rank Vladdy in the division? Not necessarily a number rank, but how do you think he'd stand with some of the divisions more notables? Most would beat him convincingly. He'd trouble guys like Evans, Jardine, and those of their ilk, but most top level LHW's have the striking the hurt him standing, and either the takedown D or ground skills to stall his grinding top game. Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2008 October PPV show canceled The 10/11 Affliction PPV show, scheduled to be headlined by Andrei Arlovski vs. Josh Barnett for a title shot at Fedor Emelianenko, has been canceled according to reports from both Yahoo.com and MMArated.com. The box office at the Thomas & Mack Center was still selling tickets to the event as of Noon Pacific time today and had not been informed the show was off, but the event had been removed from the company's web site. However, fighters on the card were being informed today that the show had been postponed to a later date, and the PPV companies were also informed there was going to be no show. Keith Kizer of the Nevada State Athletic Commission told sherdog.com that the event was being moved to January at the Honda Center in Anaheim. There had been rumors for several days that Affliction was attempting to find a public reason for an impending cancellation, as live ticket sales were weak coming off a show that was believed to have lost in the range of $3 million to $4.5 million.
