Lord of The Curry Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 UFC 95- February 21'st, O2 Arena, London Anderson Silva vs TBA (Rumors strongly point to Thales Leities) Joe Stevenson vs Diego Sanchez (Sanchez's 155 lb debut) Justin Buccholz vs Terry Etim Dan Hardy vs Rory Markham Neil Grove vs TBA Luiz Cane vs TBA
BruteSquad_BRODY Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 I thougt Silva was refusing to fight in England?
Lord of The Curry Posted December 19, 2008 Author Report Posted December 19, 2008 Haven't heard anything about it.
Hawkius Maximus Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 I'm pretty sure Dave Meltzer said that Anderson Silva flat out is refusing to fight on the UK show. So either he got his info wrong (which is pretty rare), or they threw an assload of money at Silva then he's not gonna be on it. Meltzer tried to think of what fight they could put on to main event the show, and couldn't think of anything. So it's possible UFC threw money at Silva. They don't really have anything else right now.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 I heard Thales Leites is going to be next in line for a MW title shot, so that could be Anderson's next opponet. Diego is going to rape Stevenson, and I like Stevenson. But I don't see fase of the game he has an advantage over Diego in.
Lord of The Curry Posted December 19, 2008 Author Report Posted December 19, 2008 I don't think Diego is going to run through Stevenson by any means but he certainly posseses the tools required to beat him.
Lei Tong Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Diego is indeed a better fighter, and should be favored in this fight, but I'd be remiss if I didn't express some concern over Diego's bullish takedowns playing right into Stevenson's guillotine game. Of course, it may never come to that point (Diego is a more well-rounded striker), but worth pointing out.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 They really save the shit cards for England eh? Diego is a better striker, better grappler (top or bottom) and when things get tough he thrives, while Stevenson folds. I don't see how he loses this fight.
Lei Tong Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 They really save the shit cards for England eh? The Brits already pay for shit Warren promoted fighters to face scrubs, so why not?
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 You know what I miss? Canadian cards.
Lord of The Curry Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Anderson Silva vs TBA (Rumors strongly point to Thales Leities) Joe Stevenson vs Diego Sanchez (Sanchez's 155 lb debut) Justin Buccholz vs Terry Etim Dan Hardy vs Rory Markham Neil Grove vs TBA Luiz Cane vs TBA Nate Marquardt vs Wilson Gouveia Stefan Struve vs Junior dos Santos Shannon Gugerty vs Tom Lawson
Lt. Al Giardello Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Marquardt is going to pwn Gouveia. I'm sick of the Gouveia hypetrain, even though he really impressed me against Jason MacDaddy. Nobody dominated Jason MacDaddy since his UFC stint, like that.
Lord of The Curry Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Doerkson tapped him in Montreal but nobody seems to bring that up. And yeah, Marquardt by absolute bludgeoning in that one.
Lord of The Curry Posted December 30, 2008 Author Report Posted December 30, 2008 Joe Stevenson vs Diego Sanchez (Sanchez's 155 lb debut) Justin Buccholz vs Terry Etim Dan Hardy vs Rory Markham Neil Grove vs TBA Luiz Cane vs TBA Nate Marquardt vs Wilson Gouveia Stefan Struve vs Junior dos Santos Shannon Gugerty vs Tom Lawson Chael Sonnen vs Demian Maia Tappity tap tap taparoo
HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Maia is going to run through all of Team Quest like a hot knife through butter.
Lord of The Curry Posted December 30, 2008 Author Report Posted December 30, 2008 He's a step up from Quarry as far as I see it. Regardless of how he scored the W Sonnen did beat Filho whom many at the time would've still ranked a top five opponent.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 He's a step up from Quarry as far as I see it. Regardless of how he scored the W Sonnen did beat Filho whom many at the time would've still ranked a top five opponent. Excatly, Sonnen is a top 10 middleweight as far as my rankings go, so I think this is a good fight for Maia.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Sonnen by KO if he's not stupid enough to go to the ground. He will be, so Sonnen loses by submission.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I haven't seen enough from Maia's stand up to assume he's going to get KO'd if Sonnen keeps it to his feet. Maia has some pretty good wrestling to go along with his BJJ skills, it wouldn't surprise me if he took Sonnen down.
Lord of The Curry Posted December 30, 2008 Author Report Posted December 30, 2008 Maia is very crafty in terms of getting guys to the mat without him actually taking them down. Sonnen is a good wrestler though so if he can keep this on the feet it'll be interesting to see how Maia fares. I still stand by my tappity tap tap taparoo though.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Sonnen is on a different plain of wrestling than what Maia is used to. This showed in his fights with Filho, whose naturally stocky build lends itself well to taking down even experienced grapplers. Sonnen's standup is also very good. This fight is his to lose, which he probably will.
Lei Tong Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Of course he will, because Sonnen is utterly worthless when it matters.
The Niggardly King Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Maia's stand-up is well enough to deal with Shonen... Maia, Swank Triangle, Rd2

HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Koscheck is a little above this fight.
Youth N Asia Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 http://mmajunkie.com/news/13652/ufc-95-wil...v-after-all.mma free is good. Could be that not having a money main event yet gets it free for us...but I'll take it UFC 95 Date: Feb 21, 2009 Location: London, England Venue: 02 Arena Broadcast: Spike TV MAIN CARD (Televised) * Diego Sanchez vs. Joe Stevenson * Dan Hardy vs. Rory Markham * Wilson Gouveia vs. Nate Marquardt * Demian Maia vs. Chael Sonnen * Josh Koscheck vs. Paulo Thiago PRELIMINARY CARD (Un-televised) * Justin Buchholz vs. Terry Etim * Shannon Gugerty vs. Tom Lawson * Stefan Struve vs. Junior dos Santos
Mik Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 Did some housekeeping. Fun fact: this card is on your wonderful moderator's 27th birthday.
starvenger Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 You know what I miss? Canadian cards. Was listening to Sirius Fight Club yesterday and there was apparently talk of Lesnar/Mir II and Silva/Leites in Montreal in April. But aside from that they're saying that potential bouts are David Loiseau vs Ed Herman and Jonathan Goulet vs the Barn Cat.
