Gert T Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 Wouldn't that be a pretty short turnover between fights for Shogun? (Not that I know what the normal layover is)
Lord of The Curry Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 For a main event, yeah but people have taken fights on shorter notice and still done fine.
Lord of The Curry Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Chuck Liddell vs TBA Jim Miller vs Gray Maynard Dustin Hazeltt vs Ben Saunders Shane Carwin vs Gabriel Gonzaga Brandon Vera vs Mike Patt Jason Day vs Kendall Grove Shane Nelson vs Aaron Riley Ryan Jensen vs Steve Steinbess Marc Bocek vs David Beilkheden Tim Botesch vs Jason Brillz Mark Munoz vs Matt Hamill Pete Sell vs Matt Brown

HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Dear Pete Sell, Try not to run into a punch and get knocked out. Signed, this guy who trains under your old best friend.
Lord of The Curry Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 That's gotta be a joke. A guy who's 2-2 in his last four versus a guy who, up to this point has only been on prelim's with one being shown back in May? Fuuuuuuck that.
The Niggardly King Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 Uh oh the push to Carwin/Lesnar begins with the destruction of Gonzaga.
Youth N Asia Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 Carwin/Gonzaga is no main event. Maybe for Ultimate Fight Night... They're really pushing what they can get away with main events these days. Bisping vs Evans, Liddell vs Jardine, Franklin vs Okami They get away with it better on the free UFC numbered shows like Bisping vs Leben, Cro Cop vs Gonzaga
Lord of The Curry Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 I'll give you Franklin/Okami under the "Really shouldn't be a Main" category but Chuck vs Jardine was made because 1) Chuck draws and 2) They thought it'd be an easy comeback fight for him. Bisping/Evans was a last-minute decision because they couldn't negotiate with Tito for a second fight with Rashad. I'm still going to operate under the assumption that we'll be hearing Rashad vs Rampage for the March PPV because, unless it's a free card (which it won't be because 95 is) this PPV is going to bomb like Hiroshima. Which is a shame because there are some legitimately good fights on it and I'd hate to see talents like Carwin, Miller, Hazlett and others get wasted on a show nobody sees.
HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 McLovin should main event.

Too soon, dude. Too soon.
Lord of The Curry Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 I know, I know. And to think you still haven't processed 9/11.
Lei Tong Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 Too soon for A-bomb jokes? I better start writing some apology letters.
Lord of The Curry Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 A = ATT? Anywho, in regards to the situation of UFC 96's main event a poster on the underground forums that works for Zuffa has shot down Rampage/Rashad for the show so it's either Chuck vs TBA or the buyrate killa of Gonz/Carwin.
The Niggardly King Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 Carwin/Gonazaga gets 600,000 buys... I bet you all.

A-bomb, ie- Atom bomb, like what we skullfucked Japland with back in dubya-dubya-eye-eye. One of my old co-workers was a half Japanese dude we called "Stone Cold" (there's a later story there) or "Stoney" for short. Anyway, everyone always fucked around with him for a variety of reasons, but his being Japanese was the easiest target. On Pearl Harbor Day, my brother & I made sure to let him know that it was okay: we forgave him and his people for their treachery. He responded with his typical "Fuck you, motherfuckers." On the same subject, we suggested that he nickname his left & right arms "Hiroshima" & "Nagasaki" because he "drops bombs." Somehow, none of this Jap-hating offended him until we started dissing on ninjas one day.
Mik Posted January 17, 2009 Author Report Posted January 17, 2009 They just announced that Rampage vs. Jardine is headlining the Ohio show during the Upcoming Events section on UFC 93. Meh.
Cuban Linx Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 While Jardine getting knocked out is usually fun it's still not much of a main event. With Rampage now busy i guess Machida/Silva has to be for the #1 contendership unless they have Rashad sit out half the year waiting for Jackson.
The Niggardly King Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Awesome, I will finally get my wish of Evans/Machida
BruteSquad_BRODY Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Big Dave said Rashad turned down the Rampage fight as "too soon" Jardine won't fight Sugar with a win as they are teammates
Lord of The Curry Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 FUCK. Hazlett out of the fight with Saunders. Well, I'm watching this one at a bar now.
Gert T Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 Are they going to throw Saunders out against a replacement or just shelve that match for later? Also, if Machida does win on Saturday, any chance that Evans-Machida goes on underneath Lesnar-Mir 2 at 98? Or does Dana think that can do buys as a ME?
Mik Posted February 24, 2009 Author Report Posted February 24, 2009 Main card below and also in original post.
Lord of The Curry Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 Official Card (Because this event had a few changes going for it) Main Card Keith Jardine vs Quinton Jackson Gabriel Gonzaga vs Shane Carwin Matt Hamill vs Mark Munoz Gray Maynard vs Jim Miller Pete Sell vs Matt Brown Undercard Tim Boetsch vs Jason Brillz Kendall Grove vs Jason Day Brandon Vera vs Mike Patt Shane Nelson vs Aaron Riley Ryan Madigan vs Tamdan McCrory Not a great card at all, really. I'll be hitting the bar for this one to cheer on my boy Jimmy Miller. I did a complete 180 on Gray after the shitfest of a job he did holding Clementi down for 3 rounds. Probably in the minority here but I'm pulling for Jardine because I want to see Lyoto get the first crack at Rashad.
Lei Tong Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 I gave up on Maynard when he disappointed me against Siver, then turned on him totally when he beat Edgar.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 Yeah, that fight is as good as any for proof that Edgar should drop in weight. He was literally bullied around by the bigger wrestler, who is not necessarily better either. I'm still interested in this card, but it's definitely lacking in star power, that's for sure.
