1/26/06: Dictators On Parade; Judges Getting Tough

• This week Parade Magazine presented us with the World's 10 Worst Dictators. Although a list of the World's 10 Nicest Dictators would have been a more interesting read, I took a look at who made the list this year. The results weren't that surprising: Omar al-Bashir of Sudan and Kim Jong-il of North Korea topped the list, followed by a bunch of people whose countries I've never heard of before and whose country's names will probably change in a week or two after the next "people's uprising" or

1/25/06: Hating Ads, Gays And Taxes

• So I was flipping through the classifieds (gotta see what's out there in the free market) and I noticed about a dozen ads announcing their job vacancies (mostly crappy administrative positions) next to a picture of a football followed by the phrase "Go Steelers." Why in the blue hell would I want to work for a place just because they have a "Go Steelers" line in their classified ad? Sure the hours are long and the pay is terrible, but we're "Stiller" fans, come work for us. This is almost as b

I admit it: I'm a fan of the Spirit Squad

I have a confession to make, and alot of people will disagree with me. Anyways, I confess: I like the Spirit Squad. Is it retarded? You bet your ass it is. Is it Wrestlecrap? Yes. So why do I like it? Because the way it was done last Monday was so stupid, yet so surreal and so random, that I couldn't help but love it.   So of course, the WWE will screw it up for me.

1/24/06: Canadian Elections, Athletes

Fitting how I start this blogging thing on the most miserable day of the year. Great omen.   • So Canada just elected a conservative government. Woo-hoo. Time to oppress some minorities. (Besides those Eskimos that club seals, does Canada have any minorities?) With this new government to be shortly installed, I guess that means in a few years Canada’s public sector will rise exponentially in ways the most wide-eyed liberal could only have dreamed of, yet they will piss and moan the entire tim

Masters of Horror News

First off, I haven't posted here in a while because I have a lot of homework right now.   Anyways, here's some news on Masters of Horror. First off, I saw the episode "Pick Me Up" last night. Not a very good episode. Some good acting, but that was it. Next week is "Haekel's Tale"   Speaking of "Haekel's Tale", it will be the season finale. Showtime has dropped Takashi Miike's episode "Imprint", sighting it too disturbing. Miike himself say's he's not suprised. The thing that gets me about

I'm Feelin' It!

This is gonna be one lazy entry. I'm gonna list who, in wrestling, I'm into right now. Hopefully, some of the choices will spark discussion.   I'M FEELIN':   WWE RAW Shawn Michaels Edge Trish Stratus Big Vis Shelton Benjamin   SmackDown Kurt Angle Chris Benoit Randy Orton Booker T (heal please!) Funaki...because, really, he IS SmackDown's #1 announcer.   TNA Christian Cage Monty Brown Christopher Daniels AMW Jackie Gayda (delicious!)   Now, I'm NO

The Big Johnson

So, I'm reading the fantasy football newsbreakers, and it seems Brad Johnson told ESPN that he wants to be a starting quarterback this year. Apparently, though, there's a problem, because Johnson signed a four-year deal with the Vikings last year.   Am I the only one not seeing the problem here? The Vikings have him, he wants to start. He played very well for the Vikings.   Am I the only one who starts BJ over Daunte in 2006?   -Hoff

Albino's

I have never met an Albino in my life. A survey of ten people at work shows that only one person has, and I reckon they were lying.   I propose that Albino's are a myth circulated to scare kids into going outdoors.   Albino's scare me. I've heard that they go translucent when they get angry and can walk through walls. Fortunately they don't exist or I'd be scared.

Amazing Update

Good week so far. Classes are doing allright, and on Smackdown, Angle is the champ. Even though I (and everyone else) knew it was going to happen, I still marked out.   Also, the "Masters of Horror" episode tonight, called "Sick Girl", was pretty good. It's basically a lesbian love story with insects involved, and it's really creepy. Angela ("May", "Toolbox Murders" remake) Bettis was good, as was Erin Brown (who you late night Cinemax watchers may know of as EI starlette Misty Mundae). Also

What a Long, Strange Week It's Been

So, wrestling. I've been a fan for nigh on twenty years. Most of us here at TSM are in a similar boat. And, in twenty years, I've seen a lot of weird stuff go down. Giant, dancing chickens. A haf-black Roddy Piper. The Boogeyman. WTF? But, through it all, the WWF, WCW, ECW, AWA, NWA, TNA, and NAACP have found ways to stay fresh and entertaining. Last Saturday, however, I was really wondering if the WWE had what it took anymore.   What a difference a week makes.   Say what you will

A Small Look into Animated Movies this year.

Before I tell you why I am doing this- I have to metion that I dont really deal with animation shows that much any more. I place my focus on animation movies...   Hoodwink: Both Reviewed by Radio Host Mike Savage and Animation Historian Jerry Beck- gave this move high marks, but It isnt as clean as the other CGI films.   Ice Age Two: Dont know about this one, but Fox did ok on the first and Robots.   Open Season: Might be the sleeper hit of the season.   Curious George: Is the sleepe

Fair Haired Child (Masters of Horror)

Anyways, I saw the Master of Horror Episode "Fair Haired Child" last night. Other than one disappointment, it's pretty good. It's not the best episode, but it ties with Argento's episode ("Jennifer") as the creepiest. The whole thing has a great atmosphere, and it's probably the best thing that William Malone has directed yet. Plus, the acting was good, and the score was top notch. The only real flaw IMO, is the Fair Haired Child itself. The episode does such a good job at building this mounting

I'm doing alright

Well, had my first a few days ago. So far, it looks like things are doing fine, albeit a bit uneventful. More classes tomorrow, so there ya go.   Dread Central gave 4 1/2 out of 5 Bloodmugs to the upcoming Master's of Horror episode "Fair Haired Child." Remember, it's on Friday at 10 on Showtime, with repeats throughout the weekend. Also, remember that Eli Roth's "Hostel" comes to theatres on Friday. Oh, and it includes the trailer to the WWE's horror movie "See No Evil". I agree with other p

Hostel

Hostel was pretty sweet. I can't tell you a whole lot of what happens, because it would spoil it.   As far as trailers go, Hard Candy and The Hills Have Eyes remake look good. The American Version of Pulse looks bad, as does the remake of When a Stranger Calls. As For See No Evil, it looks hilariously bad.   Haven't seen Wolf Creek, though a few of my friends have and they where disappointed. Also, I don't want to see Bloodrayne.

Who's that jumpin' out tha sky? R-E-Y!

I finally thought of a good topic for my blog! Based off of the following thread:   MOTY 2006   In said thread, a discussion has emerged as to the merits of one Rey Mysterio, and when he had his last ***** match, if any. Now, we as an internet community take for granted that Rey is a good worker, but I've found that often times, we base these opinions on past memories without looking at the situation analytically. For instance, I'll admit to being a huge fan of Chris Jericho, but toward

I Works Hard For the Money

Subject-verb agreement is for the faint of heart.   January 4th, outside of being boring, has pretty much left me alone, which is fine by me. I got a surprise birthday dinner last night at 11 PM, and so I didn't get to bed as early as I had hoped. Tonight, if all goes well, I'll get my laundry done and turn in early. How sad of a plan is that?   You know what else is sad? This blog. Starting tomorrow, I'm going to try and get more participation going. I don't know how; maybe I'll fai

SOMEBODY CALL MY MAMA!

So, the third day of 2006 hasn't started well either. I'm back at work and hungover as shit. I was also asked to come in on Friday. There's nothing I love more than one-day weekends. Still, my 2006 can't be going nearly as bad as Shelton Benjamin's. Seriously, who did this guy piss off? After being buried with loss after loss after loss, now he gets the wonderful character addition of his "mama." This is really making the guy look like a threat, let me tell you. I'm holding onto a faint

"Happy" Birthday

So, this "new year" the kids are talking about isn't looking so hot. Yesterday, I wake up with a bad cold. Today, I kept the cold, and I added a dream -- which could be labeled as a nightmare -- about an old flame. Actually, it was a pretty great dream, which -- not like that, you pervs. But it was a really nice dream, and waking up pretty much sucked. So thus far, 2006 is 0 for 2. ZERO FOR TWO THOUSAND SIX LOL!   Birthdays generally kick ass though, and this should be no exception. Fr

Fresh for '06, suckas!

Welcome, all my friends, to the show that never ends. Uh, yeah. I read through a few of the blogs, and thought it might be kind of cool to start my own, plus I'm bored. I'm seriously going to try to update it every day, which I think will lead to more discussion. You know, a lot of little posts with one thought, as opposed to a few big posts with many thoughts. I guess we'll see.   I hope everyone had a happy (and safe) New Year's Eve, and may 2006 treat you well.   -Hoff

A Year In Review/Predictions for 2006

This year has been full of sadness and disapointments, Hashimoto in Japan and Gurrereo in the states stands out. The way New Japan handled it and the way that WWE has handled it shows where each company is headed.   There were a few bright spots however.   NOAH was a major bright spot.   OVW improved and became better than its "Higher" counterpart in many ways.   ROH had a ok year, but a very well capible champion in American Dragon.   New Japan is restruring   TNA in all inte

Universal Constants in Good Wrestling Matches

Some people say you can't compare different wrestling styles. I say nonsense. While different styles require one to look for different things, there are a number of criteria that are constant in all forms of pro-wrestling. Once that is known, all that is left in order to compare the different styles of pro-wrestling is to decide whether one match does a better job in its genre's specific criteria than the next. This is of course all my opinion, in case the reader is one of those who get offended
