Why is it that every other single person in North America is allowed to be an unabashed capitalist if they so choose, but pro athletes are still expected to play "for love of the game" as if their sole purpose is to entertain other people and not make a living for themselves?

That was never really talked about outside of political junkie circles, though. Dean was simply the Steve Forbes of 2004. A little heat early on, but nobody was REALLY going to vote for him. -=Mike I never thought of that one, but it's a good comparison. Dean had about as much a chance of getting elected as Forbes did as well.

The only thing liberal about Canada's federal Liberal Party is the use of the word in the marquee. Paul Martin is more economically conservative than George Bush, for instance, although less socially conservative (at least in the traditional sense of conservative, and not this neo-liberal conservatism that seems to be replacing it). The Liberal Party is all about pork-barrel politics, big money on Bay Street (basically Canada's version of Wall Street), and typical centralist "our policy is whatever will get us elected" strategies.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled this morning. I'm feeling reasonably good post-operating and there haven't been any complications to speak of. While they were getting me high on nitrous oxide, I was listening to a Donald Rumsfeld speech on CNN and finding everything he said to be totally hilarious. I'm not sure if that was due to the laughing gas, Rummy, or (most likely) a combination of both.

John Kerry: Shredding documents and abandoning
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
It's not like the North Vietnamese didn't have Newspapers to report what was being said or anything. They just ignored everything going on here in America. Uh huh. Of course, those papers were all state-controlled and could have printed basically anything they wanted to anyway, and no one would have been able to check and confirm otherwise. -
I thought she looked really good in the final season, when she went to high school. Nothing special before that though.

What will be the Main event at WM?
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to Vern Gagne's topic in The WWE Folder
OF course, featuring a non-title match last this year would be a neat wink-wink to WM 1 where we got the celebed-up star power laden match of Hogan/Mr. T vs. Piper/Orndorff w/ Ali instead of a world title match. -
Given that Edge himself has talked about how HHH is one of the guys he would most like to work with and how he thinks the two of them could do big business together, I don't really understand the negative sentiment towards this move, other than the fact that I agree Smackdown is starting to drop in star power and could use an influx from RAW (possiblities could be Chris Jericho, RVD, Shawn Michaels after he is done with Benoit, The Rock, and so on).

Darren Pang is just a moron who has always bashed Hasek, and has continued to bash him basically because Hasek made him look like a fool based on his original bashing (which was garbage like "Hasek is the worst goalie ever, he will never be any good in the NHL because his technique is not good" and so on). Yeah, ok. Yeah, so he changed his tune one time way after the fact. I guess that's supposed to be impressive or something? If you listened to these guys in the mid-90s you would know they were signing a much different tune about Hasek.

It's also really funny to hear a lot of the people (such as the press) sucking Joseph's dick nowadays, because mainly they are the same people that shit on him when he left Edmonton for Toronto for a big FA contract, or when he left Toronto for Detroit and an even bigger FA contract, and claimed he was a merc and only in it for the money. And as a fan of the Wings, I will say this: the next time the Wings win the Stanley Cup, which will hopefully this year, when everything is said and done the guy who will be in net when the final buzzer sounds is Manny Legace. Joseph is nothing more than a passenger and will never carry a team to victory.

Stuff like this is what makes me think more and more that George W. Bush is the Bill Clinton of the Republican Party. And I'm not saying that's a bad thing, or a good one either. Just an observation.

I believe in Ohio recently someone specifically requested death by firing squad when he found out that option was available.

Well, one is tried by a jury of his or her peers, has gone through many levels of appeals and has still been declared guilty, while the other is a life in the making which has done nothing harmful to anyone or anything. If anything, you should be asking yourself "How can you be for abortions, which kills something that's completely innocent, but be against the Death Penalty, where you are killing convicted criminals who have been judged by a jury of their peers". It depends on what you are using as a basis for your belief system. I personally don't see a problem with people being anti-abortion, pro-death penalty if their rationale is something like you laid out. I do think it is strange if someone is against abortion for reasons straight out of the bible, then for the death penalty even though it flies totally in the face of Jesus' teachings.

Edmund Muskie? Of course, we all know why that happened.

Here's an idea: if these kids do try the NFL and don't make it, why can't they just go back to college, and get an education the way the rest of us do - work a summer job and take part time jobs during the semester to pay the bills? I don't see why we should be upset that these guys won't be getting a free ride through school on the taxpayer's dollar. And if they arn't good enough to go back and get an education without having the football team to fall back on, then I say to hell with them and leave the universities for the people who actually want to be there to get an education and not to entertain couch potatoes and rich boosters.

Doing my duty as a Democrat, to try bringing down
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
Wha? I've never heard Edwards express any socialistic beliefs. And what do you mean exactly by "European" socialist? Listen to his rhetroic: free health care, free health care, working people, social justice for all, free health care, free-trade stinks, change America for the "common person". He's like something out of the Labour Party at a British parliament meeting. This guys would be like poison for our already fading capitalist society. Don't listen to me though, I think everyone to the left of Bush is a socialist. Maybe some of you like that sort of thing. By the standards set by the examples you have, Pat Buchanan is now a "socialist". -
Mass Supreme Court: "civil unions" not good enough
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to a topic in Current Events
That doesn't mean they would necessarily support an ammendment to the Federal constitution. These states probably view it as a states rights issue, and a constituional ammendment would strip some of those rights away. -
Marvel & Pixar To Work Together?
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Television & Film
Silver Surfer is most definitely perfect for Pixar because you can do characters like Galactus and Thanos with little difficulty, and the epic size of the setting is no problem either. I wouldn't mind seeing X-Men done as an animation because characters like Apocalypse would work better in that medium. -
Mass Supreme Court: "civil unions" not good enough
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to a topic in Current Events
I would say the question isn't whether or not the majority of Americans support gay marriage (it's likely no, and I doubt it will ever get any higher than 50/50). It's whether they are so against it they would actually support a constitutional ammendment against it, which is basically the most extreme response possible. I've talked with several conservatives who, although they don't support gay marriage, feel that ammending the constitution over a social policy issue flies directly in the face of what true conservatism is supposed to stand for. -
Mass Supreme Court: "civil unions" not good enough
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to a topic in Current Events
This has never even been an issue. Some churches (such as the Quackers) already DO perform gay marriages from the religious, symbolic standpoint. Nor is any court saying that a particular church, parish, or faith must administer a gay marriage against their will. This issue is confined entirely to the secular, government-related marriage. Being a moderate on this issue, I still think the best way to go would be a nation-wide conversion to "civil unions" for the legal sort of marriage, with actual "marriage" being a term left to religious groups to dish out. -
.... PLEASE let this be THAT segment. That's a good looking DVD. All the segments are stuff that I would expect to be on there. I would possibly have included a few other things like Bischoff giving away the results of matches on the air, X-Pac's return to the WWF, etc. but that lineup looks pretty solid.

Funny story: Shaq was bitching in press about Yao beating him out for the starting spot and implying that it's because people in China vote for him on the net, but when the official numbers came out, O'Neal had more online votes, while Ming had more paper ballot votes from North American fans.

New Jack was offered a spot on the roster?
Hogan Made Wrestling replied to LucharesuFan619's topic in The WWE Folder
New Jack could be sweet as part of Theodore Long's stable. -
How the fuck does Ray Lewis make it on there over say, Rod Woodson and Deion Sanders? I mean, I love Ray and I think when he retires he will be considered one of the best of all time, but not yet.
