  1. It was actually a good day to say it. Other than the soundbite, he said the same stuff that was said at the attempted second Million Man March. Find someone who has a problem with encouraging people to take care of each other and try to live up to the abilities and rights they've historically had to fight for.
  2. Voting either way makes you a divider. You can't vote for confirmation and rejection. Good job at grasping the idea of choice.
  3. "Gulf Opportunity Zone."
  4. He's right, except not in the way he thinks he is.
  5. I didn't say they were faultless, obviously things must be done on the local and state levels, but when a disaster of this magnitude hits you have to recognize that they can only do so much. Far be it for the federal guys to recognize that and do their damndest to fix admitted mistakes as best they can, let's just blame the city that effectively ceased to exist. The complete ineptitude of the federal authorities, which is becoming more and more apparent as thousands of pages of communications are made public, was inexcusable. Man, I can't even type about it anymore. Any time the topic comes up, I'm far too incensed to argue rationally.
  6. I had no idea. Ugh. DoCock didn't even wonder why I seemed to disappear from AIM for a solid month before yesterday, and then again at 1:08am CST.
  7. I'd say he did a pretty good job of managing it.
  8. Fuck anyone who tries to say he's wrong and fuck anyone who tries to heap blame on the city and state for what happened. He's fuckin' right ON about everything. He's getting out of the bed where he was lying with all the developers and vultures and taking the side of the people, saying they're welcome to come back and they won't have to worry. If the city was 60-70% black, and we want to have the place as it once was, doesn't that mean we should try and encourage the same sort of blend, except without the extreme poverty level? Nah, let's let a bunch of overzealous land barons develop the area to the point where the former residents can't afford to live there. ... man, I've said it before, but 9/11 didn't get me as upset and worked up as this whole thing has. And people can claim up and down that it isn't, but it was just as terrible too. Naturally, we all decided to tune out and not discuss the issues it brought to the surface.
  9. That'd be pretty stupid, since their releases of al-Queda material are great assistants in intelligence gathering. You can tell when it was made, what kind of health Osama's in, all kinds of stuff. Not to mention how fucked up it would be to blow away the largest news agency in the Middle East. The transcript pretty much read like the speeches we hear from our leaders, 'cept talking about us instead. CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, you name 'em, they show speeches by our leaders saying we're going to find and kill terrorists and that they're all evil and this and that. Learn some perspective before you suggest dumb shit like taking out Al-Jazeera. Then we'd have a LOT more people pissed at us than we already do.
  10. The seven word bandit strikes!
  11. Which Bush?
  12. I was made a mod after she disappeared.
  13. Crandamaniac?! I haven't seen you here in forever.
  14. And someone's gonna have to tell me why many call Reagan one of our best Presidents ever, because I'm not seeing it. He's probably in the top half (although I'd put him there more due to intangibles than actual accomplishment), but that's it.
  15. I did my list in Time Person Of The Year-style, but tried to have choices that had positive influences as well as factoring in how I felt about 'em. The Cuban Missile Crisis would have gone down sooner or later the moment Castro took control and started hanging with the Ruskies. The Bay of Pigs was something Kennedy inherited anyway. I have him there for not only October 1962, but also the dramatic shift that his death caused in the country. In the early 60s, there was really no reason to think that America would be radically different in ten years besides the obvious technological differences. He also made the initial pledge to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade, and NASA enjoyed its golden age. This country just seems to be unraveling more and more, and the start of it (in my mind anyway) was November 22nd, 1963. Wilson's a guy that got re-elected on a pacifist policy and was the first President to not just tell other nations to stay away like Monroe, or be full of bluster and cowboy tendencies like Teddy Roosevelt. He examined what exactly this new global power of the United States could bring to the table to make the entire world a better place, instead of just better in our little corner of it. He really should have been a guy who was elected in 2012 instead of 1912.
  16. She was one of the people who sent me E-mails about my Tough Enough reviews. Not knowing the true horror of what I was doing, I told her (as I did anyone who wasn't a member already) to sign up and join the board.
  17. Yikes. Terrible list. 1: Lincoln 2: Washington 3: F.D. Roosevelt 4: Wilson 5: T. Roosevelt 6: Kennedy 7: Polk 8: Truman 9: Madison 10: Eisenhower
  18. I would like to apologize yet again for inviting Yuna to sign up here.
  19. InuYasha doesn't realize that he/she just described the entire human race. Well, there was also the ignoring of the most notable anti-gay murder of the last ten years being in Wyoming, the land of cotton.
  20. I guess not. Us pinkos should know better.
  21. I think the LSD folder provides all the evidence most would need. This place has a majority of insecure, socially inept young'ns who have a wide range of interests with most of them being far away from what are considered mainstream or normal pursuits, but not in the cool underground way. It's more in the "stuff people generally make fun of" way. That's how they ended up here. Nothing wrong with that, it's just hardly a surprise.
  22. I'd say "too serious" is a six page thread crying and moaning about people that can easily be ignored but can't be because some posters' brains are apparently too large and powerful to screen any input.
  23. Yes, and on a wrestling messageboard, amazingly, some people talk about wrestling in a serious fashion. Maybe if this was, say, a Fly-fishing message board the phrase "it's just wrestling" might be warranted and applicable, but on a site where people make the decision to sign up with the intent of posting about and discussing wrestling, I'd say that serious discussion about wrestling is expected, especially on a messageboard called "thesmartmarks". Yes, if you compare it to everything else that goes on in the world today it's silly and it's nerdy, but its a fucking wrestling messageboard, so what the fuck do you expect? I dunno, a modicum of acceptance that they're a minority by those who consider themselves intelligent? I don't think that just because it's a wrestling board that it has to be a place where people take it (and themselves) far too seriously.
  24. Even though your point was not with a low post count, but with their registration date. This place doesn't exactly have a difficult learning curve.
  25. If you can read, you can tell if someone's making a good post or a bad post. Actual discourse with the involved posters isn't a requirement.
