Has anyone else seen Robert Altman's Short Cuts?
Considering Magnolia is one of my favorite movies, the comparisons were inevitable. Some are obvious, like the large ensemble cast interacting with each other in a relatively short time frame, recurring themes drawing the characters together, and the "freak occurrence" endings.
Still, Altman's took a bit longer for me to get into, and featured characters that were slightly more unlikeable (which isn't a bad thing necessarily; they were actually more realistic). But there wasn't a character I really wanted to cheer for, like John C. Reilly in Magnolia.
Anyway, both films are definitely recommended on all accounts, even if PT Anderson's feels awfully self-indulgent at times.
This was my first Altman film. How do his others compare to this one?
