I councur, it's definitely good for SAWX fans like myself, it's relatively easy (though getting a bit harder) to go down to Camden Yards and see The Sox there. Plus, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than Fenway. It's incredible to be in a park with 40,000 Red Sox fans, 10-12 hours away from Boston. Didn't Angelos complain about all of the Sox and Yankees fans coming down and selling out Camden Yards during the Os series' with them?

Not sure if this warrants a thread but I'm really looking forward to seeing The Kingdom tonight. I'm glad Jason Bateman is getting some decent looking post Arrested Development film work for once and the plot looks pretty intriguing. I'm glad we even got it, the small movie theater here where I go to college hardly ever gets anything half-decent and the next nearest movie theater is 45 minutes away. I don't expect it to get much independent and artsy stuff that I like seeing when I'm back at home but it never even got 3:10 to Yuma, and that was the #1 movie in the country on its opening weekend!

Odd thing is even though I'm a fan of yacht rock, I haven't felt compelled to watch Yacht Rock yet. Speaking of yacht rock, does anybody know if there's a good greatest hits collection of 10cc compiling their early stuff with their later yacht rock stuff? All the compilations I've seen so far focus on one or the other.

Did "Cavemen" get cancelled already or has it not premiered yet? It seems like there's been a lot of negative hype the past few weeks and then this week I've heard nothing about it.

Man, I'd kill to see old Jack Nicholson and old Ric Flair to have some kind of verbal standoff about who's banged more chicks.

I would think at least some of their stuff is. They have to be considered yacht rock solely for the fact that they regularly employed Michael McDonald to sing backup. Michael McDonald is the undisputed King of Yacht Rock.

And that's why Camden Yards is the best ballpark in Major League Baseball. I went down for three games in April of '05 (one against Detroit and a two game series against Boston) and when I found that out, I was overjoyed. It's too bad though that the two best parks in the majors (PNC Park and the aforementioned Camden) are inhabited by two teams that are the drizzling shit.

Wheat Chex are surprisingly good. Definitely my favorite of all of the Chex cereals and perhaps my favorite non-sugar cereal. Good stuff.

I guess I'll be the first one to comment that I thought this was a thread about The Eddie Murphy/Martin Lawrence movie of the late 90s.

I don't think I've ever had more than a pretty good burger at a chain restaurant. I'm almost always disapointed when I order a burger from a place that's not one of my local hole in the wall favorites.

If it's available, get '96 instead. There's probably a couple months worth of crap at the beginning with the shitty Hogan Vs 2/3rds of the heels in the company feud but the last six months of the year are easily better than anything in '97 or '98

I love the Shaft clip with Issac Hayes taking his sweet ass time getting to the stage with his long entrance and Jesse Jackson standing onstage yelling "YEAH! YEAH! YEAH!" repeatedly. The Rufus Thomas performance is pretty cool when he invites the audience on the field to dance then gets them all back to their seats within minutes. My only complaint about the movie is they should have spent more time on the actual music. Though most of the Richard Pryor bits were funny Fun fact; Wattstax was directed by the same guy who did Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory Not Stax related really but another fun, little seen R&B concert film is Soul to Soul about Ghana's Independence Anniversary concert in 1971. It has Ike and Tina Turner, Wilson Pickett, The Staples Singers, and somewhat inexplicably, Santana shows up to do a longass jam.

They may have been the first to record exclusively out of Los Angeles, outside of their demos, I think everything was recorded outside of Los Angeles. I don't see how they ruined Motown though. It's not really their fault that Berry Gordy got sick of Holland-Dozier-Holland's egos and replaced them with lesser songwriters. It's not like they were going to write their own songs or anything. RE: Stax Records. Oddly enough, I just bought the Soulsville U.S.A. book at a used book store this Saturday. I'm a big fan of Stax Records. Any of you guys here see Wattstax? It's a concert film about "The Black Woodstock" at The Coliseum in L.A. The concert lineup was entirely comprised of Stax artists; Issac Hayes headlines, Albert King, The Staples Singers, Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas, and The Bar-Kays are also in it. It's really a great concert film and you get appearences by Richard Pryor, Jesse Jackson, Melvin Van Peebles, and Ted Lange (Issac from The Love Boat!)

Well, what's the supporting argument? I can't exactly remember but I'm pretty sure it had to do with them being the first Motown act to record in Los Angeles instead of Detroit and having their songs written and produced by The Corporation rather than Holland-Dozier-Holland.

One of my high school's perennial substitute teachers always said that The Jackson 5 ruined Motown...thoughts? Personally, I thought they were Motown's last truly great act (Boyz II Men notwithstanding but they came long after Motown had become just another record label). Some of The Jackson 5's ballads stand up to the strongest ballads put out by any of the bands on that label IMHO.

Even when I was 7 when it came out, I thought When Nature Calls to be mildly disturbing than funny. Mostly because of the scene where he pops out of the mechanical rhino.

I actually like some non-make up years KISS (Though what I like from those years could fit on one EP).

I forgot to mention KISS, they're another huge guilty pleasure. But that's mostly due to them being my favorite band when I was 12. I don't think I'll ever dislike that band.

I have an unabashed love and unironic love for yacht rock. I also like the new James Blunt single way more than I should. I love that song and the odd thing is I didn't really care for any of the singles off his first album.

Back on topic, saw the movie again last Saturday and it actually was a bit better than the first time. Still can't help but feel that this movie is 10-15 minutes too long but not as overstuffed IMO as Knocked Up or The 40 Year Old Virgin
