Whee.
Problem is, the audience is different now. Big, talentless lugs coming out and doing "ME...SMASH!" doesn't work anymore (Nathan Jones, Heidenreich, Kenzo, Tomko). Using the cruisers and smaller guys (who aren't cruisers) effectively would work better, IMO. Faster, more athletic guys would do more to steady ratings, possibly bring in more/younger viewers, and hold together the midcard than the gimmicks, and extreme gimmicks don't work in the ME. I don't see how reverting back to this mindset can do any good.
