  1. I may be wrong but I recall Yokozuna falling over at one point during the Virgil match (though I think he ended up using as an offensive move). That (possibly false) memory and him CLEARLY being down on the mat at the 93 Rumble always caused me to not really buy the whole "Duggan tries to knock Yokozuna off his feet for the first time ever!" angle afterwards. I think the deal there was Yoko hadn't been offensively knocked off his feet (again, a memory issue - I always remembered it as Savage flooring him with repeated axe handles, but I think he actually fell after a missed charge).
  2. "Eight" begins with a vowel, therefore you have "an 8% warn level", not "a 8".
  3. I do expect a "No Cho Aniki" rule this year.
  4. I guess the feeling is any time they spent explaining why Primo Colon is on SmackDown is time and effort that will result in zero buys for anything, so just devote the time to something else.
  5. I don't care what Ledesma says, NO story will ever replace "tag partner ate the last slice of pizza".
  6. Right, it was Ted DiBiase. I think that's in last week's F4W/WON news thread.
  7. I have a very fond memory of this show in regards to the Mr. Perfect thing. We didn't get Prime Time in Canada so, with the big angle happening on a show we don't get, how are Canadians supposed to know what's going on? Well, the "Community Bulletin Board / Local Cable Access" channel or whatever you want to call it had an ALERT~! appear on screen. "ATTENTION WRESTLING FANS - due to unforseen circumstances, The Ultimate Warrior will not be appearing at Survivor Series. "Macho Man" Randy Savage will now be teaming with Mr. Perfect" (or some form of this bulletin). Talk about a head scratcher - I thought this was some trap Savage had walked into and told everyone at school about this exciting news. I miss that channel, with it's solid blue screen and two red lines at the top and bottom, computerized text on screen and ASCII graphics for Christmas Trees when they did the holiday greetings. Good times.
  8. Same here but it's not uncommon for systems to not be aware when 24/7 decided to add shows on wacky days. I was pretty surprised when the off-schedule Shorties from August showed up on time.
  9. They did explain that the photos were doctored and Flair never revealed his prized nude photo of Elizabeth from his private collection (jerk), so I guess that enough evidence.
  10. Well it was just reported like, last week, that Taker and/or creative figure if Taker loses at Mania, it's not going to be to an established main eventer. In other news: Wrestlers have contracts that determine how long they are a champion, usually for a year. So, when Jericho's contract for being a champion runs out, he'll be scripted to lose the belt. This is what I in a conversation two people on the bus were having on my way to work tonight. I may have misheard her, but the other party in the conversation said "Cena is out with an injury and will be replaced by The Rock".
  11. I enjoyed the Bret/Hennig Uncensored (almost wrote "Unforgiven") match. It's the lesser of their work but one of Hennig's better WCW outings. I actually got to see them do a match at a house show in March 98 when Hall and Nash no-showed and I was pretty damn happy about it.
  12. Well, that was the joke / AVGN reference.
  13. I know WWE is not known for being on the up and up with a wrestlers win-loss record (especially around 1991, as in the build to Survivor Series when Undertaker was being called "undefeated", my cousin said that he saw Taker lose to Warrior a few months prior), but I found Monsoon's claim during the IRS/DBS match that IRS was undefeated a bit dubious as I've always remembered him as a JTTS until Money Inc. formed. Then I realized that it was not entirely impossible the IRS character was never beaten on TV (what, was PJ Walker going to get a fluke roll-up on Superstars?) so I was slightly amused to see that on the PTW episode from September 91 that IRS indeed has a televised match that he does not win.
  14. I thought the warnee's received some sort of notification, but I guess I didn't hit the proper checkbox for that? Brody: From what I gather, the warn level has to be at like, 65% before anything happens.
  15. I suspect with Rock having to go on first and leave immediately (and them editing it to he's 2nd last to speak), that would not have worked. Hopefully it returns in 2009.
  16. I might just have bad memory these days but I don't remember seeing the opening bit with Josh Matthews interviewing people on the DVD release. That's pretty cool. This is the first HOF that's ever appeared on Cogeco's 24/7 line-up.
  17. No, but that was my first thought too. You have to love how the opening match is a former world champ vs a former IC champ - not something totally common in 1991 - but neither "Col. Mustafa" or "The Dragon" are acknowledged as such in 1991 WWE canon.
  18. The 1984 promo where Flair talks about why he's better than Dusty Rhodes from inside his wood paneled home is pretty good.
  19. Odd that Johnny B. Badd was still being pushed with obviously so little left in his contract (he's at Mania XII a month later). And what's with the frisbees? Does he think he's Leaping Lanny Poffo?
  20. I've been pretty busy with work and other committments (many just entertaining myself offline) so if another subscriber wishes to pass along some notes this week (otherwise it will be a wait for a very untimely update from me) please go ahead. Thanks.
  21. This is listing a game title, not defending a game. I implore you, defend this thing, because I cannot think of a single positive aspect about it. It's neat that they gave it three level variants - the first level where you're shooting things on what looks like a level design from Outrun looks pretty cool. The side-scrolling level where everything pushes you back half a screen is pretty annoying though. Andrew mentioned some pretty silly elements from Nitro that made it an amusing diversion. When I rented the game I was quite content to make people dance and wrestle in an arena full of mirrors. The "Run-In" button was kind of a neat idea (and very appropriate for a WCW game). Thunder, while awful, had those really, really funny wrestler videos. Another amusing diversion. I also remember that you could change everyone's faction alliance with the press of a button before a match - another neat idea that would have been well suited to a better game. WCW Mayhem was just as unfun to play as Thunder and Nitro, but by making it a more "serious" game in an attempt to make it better than the above failures, the only things that made the prior two games fun were removed. Having really bad matches on purpose so Heenan would start a boring chant was pretty funny, though.
  22. I'm also fairly certain I saw a news piece about that angle on Entertainment Tonight. I remember telling my school yard chums that I saw video of Flair and Liz posing for those pictures so the whole "they were doctored" deal wasn't quite on the level.
  23. That's pretty weak considering they were able to set Mania IX outdoors. Man, that was awesome having that classic arena and a blue steel cage. They shouldn't have dropped that concept.
  24. Thanks. I slept in this afternoon then felt like watching a DVD and now I'm at work so it's slow going.
