    RIP Sharon Osbourne

So far, it's not true. A friend of mine just searched for Sharon Osbourne's death on Google, and only came up with the ABC page, and nothing else (as opposed to Christopher Reeve's death, which she said "is everywhere"). I've been checking MTV every five minutes, but they haven't broken away from their usual crummy programming. -Ben

Who is the killer or killers in Identity Crisis?

I bought the Encyclopedia last Monday, but I don't remember any spoilers from any series running right this moment. Maybe I'll have to read it cover to cover to find something that sounds like Identity Crisis. Then again, the entry for the Elongated Man didn't mention Sue Dibny's rape and murder, so it's not completely up to date. As for the killer, I really have no idea who it could be. -Ben

    Babydaddy

Was it ever implied that Peter and Gwen did it in the comics before she died? From what I've heard, Parker didn't lose his virginity to Mary Jane until after he had dropped Ben Reilly down a smokestack, and after making his peace with the Gwen clone that the Jackal created. -Ben

    Donald Duck in Naziland

Scott Keith (IZFAAAATBONZOGONZOLOL2004!!!~~) actually reviewed that, but was that a Canadian-only release or something? I haven't seen any of the Disney Treasures released here in the US, but I'd probably have to go halfway to Pittsburgh and check Best Buy for it, since we only really have Wal-Mart, K-Mart, FYE, and the like around here. On the Front Lines was available in the states. I did pick up my copy sometime this summer, along with The Chronological Donald Duck, volume one (good), Mickey in Living Color, volume two (ehhh...), and I also got The Complete Goofy from eBay (decent, but no option to play all shorts?) If you find it, snap it up. I've heard it's already out of print... -Ben

    New York Dolls

He did reinvent himself as Buster Poindexter in the 1980s, and I'm still not sure why. Maybe he wasn't afraid to be laughed at or criticized by serious music fans? Whatever, though. Lately, he's been on a big blues kick. He also portrayed Eli Zabitz during one season of OZ, too, so it isn't like he was picking completely crummy roles in the movies and TV shows he appeared in. -Ben

    New York Dolls

Johnny Thunders didn't! There's a quote in the book Please Kill Me about how Thunders refused to dress in drag onstage. Still, they're such a great band. -Ben

    Sell your team

D: Towards the end of August, the team deals away three key players when the team is just a couple of games out of first place, effectively saying "We have no chance of catching the Indians/Twins/Royals/Tigers". (see 1997 season) That's when I stopped following the Sox, to be honest. -Ben

    Eddie's DVD

Picked up Eddie's DVD late last night from Wal-Mart, so I can confirm it's definitely at your nearest Wally World. Haven't watched it yet, since I also got my copy of MST3K: The Essentials in the mail, and that's what I ended up throwing in the player first after getting home. -Ben

    How does your city handle....

In Evansville, Indiana, we don't have Simpsons reruns. They used to air at eleven on our low-power UPN affiliate, which converted over from a Pax station last year. Several months ago, reruns of Taxi replaced The Simpsons without any warning, and no station's picked up the rights since. -Ben

    What else did Kane do?

Kane is not a believer in returning his library books on time. Kane was spotted writing obscenities on the wall at Phoebe Caulfield's school. Kane was the author of the Pina Colada song. Kane is responsible for every prank fire drill and bomb threat that has ever happened in anyschool. Kane deliberately started a brawl in the White House's war room. Kane campaigned for Richard Nixon. Kane voted against the inclusion of Alaska and Hawaii in the union. Kane caused that ground ball to roll through Bill Buckner's legs in 1986. Kane also was the reason why Buffalo lost four straight Super Bowls. Kane is secretly the CEO of Clear Channel. Kane stole jokes from Henny Youngman. Kane was the one who purchased Robert Johnson's soul at the crossroads in rural Mississippi. Kane designed Pennsylvania's road system. Kane is the last person on earth who believes The Family Circus is still hysterically funny.

    Cameo/Guest Shots

Night Court always had great cameos, although Mel Torme's recurring role got a bit old after a while. One episode had Wile E. Coyote (yes, animated!) making an appearance. I'm not sure why the writers threw that gag in. Best cameo ever: Richard Nixon on Laugh-In. -Ben

    GNR Behind the Music

Another year delay? For some reason, I'm not really surprised. Then again, it's been "due for release" for how many years now? Axl is making Tom Scholz from Boston look like an amateur. This better be the best damn record ever recorded if it's taking this long to get released, seriously. -Ben

    Most Unfunny Mainstream Comedians

Denis Leary. Stole material almost word for word from Bill Hicks, and made his career on it. I've had no respect for Carrot Top for a long, long time. Gallagher used to be hilarious when I was a kid, but you quickly realize that most people don't go to his shows for the JOKES, do they? They just want to dodge the smashed food. -Ben

Things you learn from the movies...

    83. When a young couple is being pursued by a killer or any kind of monster through the wilderness, the woman will almost always fall down, suffering an apparently serious injury. She then will tell her companion to "go without her", which the man will almost always disregard. 84. A black monolith appearing at the foot of an old man's bed will help evolve the man into a higher form of life. -Ben

    first album you ever bought.

First "real" album (that wasn't a Weird Al tape) I ever got was Blow Up by the Smithereens on cassette. Got the CD later that year. I was never big on cassettes. The only time I ever bought a bunch of tapes was when I was trying to get everything George Carlin ever put out five years ago. All I had to do was just wait a few months, and I would've been able to buy most of his '70s and early '80s albums on CD (which I eventually did). -Ben

    2001: A Space Odyssey

After Dave Bowman outsmarted HAL by getting back into Discovery and disabling him, the prerecorded message from Dr. Floyd came on. I don't remember the exact message, but it still inspires Dave to take another pod out to meet the new monolith floating in Jupiter's airspace. The monoliths (placed by an apparently superior race of aliens monitoring human activity on Earth) only showed up at crucial points in mankind's developments. First, it appeared at the dawn of man, where the apes discovered how to use tools (the bones) to defeat the rival tribe, kill animals for food, and ensuring its survival. The next appearance was when man landed on the moon and excavated the second monolith. The sharp signal was the warning that man had made it all the way to the moon, which is worlds removed from the primitive man that evolved from the apes. The third monolith that Dave confronts in space is the one that was destined to show up when man finally evolved to the point where he does not NEED machines or tools anymore, and is ready to move up. You could argue that the "beyond the infinite" sequence was the portal to wherever Dave ended up, and it's been said that the hotel suite that Dave ends up in is part of a great cosmic zoo. The final monolith that appears as Dave is dying is the one signaling man's evolution to godhood (for lack of better terms). Of course, Arthur Clarke once said: "If you understand 2001 completely, [Kubrick and I] failed. We wanted to raise far more questions than we answered." -Ben P.S. Rock Hudson walked out of the Los Angeles premiere, saying, "Will someone tell me what the hell this is about?"
