Not much on that Hogan DVD that looks appealing. Why they don't take advantage of their tape library to use rare matches that a lot of fans don't already own I have no idea because I'd buy that in a heart beat compared to all of the WrestleMania matches and such that I already own.

Middle East Tensions Exploding
Danville_Wrestling replied to Danville_Wrestling's topic in Current Events
It's typical media exaggeration but what else is new? By the way, I thought Benjamin Netanyahu schooled Wolf Blitzer last night on CNN when Wolf kept pressing him on the casualties. Advice to Wolf: It's usually not a good idea to press politicians that are leaders in a parliamentary government because they actually have to DEBATE FOR REAL on a regular basis and aren't as easy to beat in an argument as politicians in America. -
I also miss how SvR 2006 didn't have "generic" theme music like HTCP so I couldn't give Regal a more royal sounding theme music other than that crappy southern tune music he has in the game. Then again, I used that theme music for my Arn Anderson/Tully Blanchard tag team.

Need I mention the infamous Jackie Gayda match from RAW several years ago?

I'm surprised no one has commented on John Cena's comment about drinking other people's bottles of water. That's just weird and unsanitary to me. Booker T is a beast, though, with that pre-match routine. He's got my respect.

OAO WWE Wellness Policy Thread
Danville_Wrestling replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in The WWE Folder
Blading isn't that common right now on Smackdown!, though, is it? I don't get to watch it that much in my area so all I get to read are the reports/spoilers. Either way, an epidemic looks likely so the WWE better start testing people to see who can and cannot blade if they are going to continue it at all. However, if you take away using the crimson mask period then the WWE continues to take away part of the feel of the product so the fans lose either way. -
Yea all through last night I was wondering "what if this was another other wrestlers kid on the roster?" I'm reminded of Rick Rude's testimony during McMahon's trial when he said he went off steroids to try to have a family and he says Vince told him to have a family on his own time. I'm not saying HHH shouldn't have been there at his daughter's birth last night but it really hurts company morale if some people get the same treatment. Edit: Same thing happened with Steamboat years ago when he was wanting to start a family and Vince basically depushed him for it.

Yea there are about two tag teams they could have made out of that list and given us a decent tag team division (Goldust & Snitsky and then team up Venis/Viscera since their gimmicks complement each other). It wouldn't take a genius to give us a competitive tag team division again but WWE just chooses not to. I dunno about giving Maven another chance but hell, it wouldn't hurt when looking at the depleted Smackdown! roster right now. I wouldn't mind seeing Disco Inferno back. I always marked for him and his theme music is definitely in my favorite all-time top 10. Good point. Don't have much to add but that thought crossed my head over the weekend.

Yea, I'd say whether you like Umaga or not you had to be chuckling after that vicious Samoan drop to HBK. I hope this doesn't mean Umaga is jobbing next week and/or becomes the latest victim of the DX squash machine along with Estrada. I just marked out big time for it because Michaels superkicked Coachman and I was getting ready to turn over to ESPN and BOOM! Umaga appears and levels HBK. Definite mark out moment there. I also rewatched Benjamin-Carlito and I still like it. Funny how they are more over than Nitro who has the strap but at least Nitro has Melina who I am liking more every week so that makes him tolerable. Carlito needs to give a cool name to that finisher other than "back cracker", though. The thing that disappointed me a lot about the show is that they could have done a lot better job hyping the main event. As I posted on the previous page, the angle between Edge and Cena should have been played out to start the damn show and not started thirty minutes into it. Whatever happened to the days when the champion was supposed be the focal point of the company? I also got a good old school manager vibe by having Melina and Lita being at ringside and interfering and Nitro/Edge looked good together as a heel tag team.

RAW wasn't as bad as the last couple of weeks but still had some negatives. This is how I saw the show: GOOD: -The Shelton-Carlito match. Crowd was into it, especially the armbar spot when Benjamin used the psychology of the match and the crowd started chanting for Carlito. Finishing sequence was good and Benjamin FINALLY beat Carlito! -I loved Edge's rant against Coach backstage when Coach was on the phone and Edge pointed at the belt and said "this is what matters! See, it spins!" -Women's match was better than I expected and it was short but they should have the ladies learn/do more moves in matches because its like slap, push to corner, finishing sequence and little else. -I marked out HUGE for Umaga demolishing HBK with the Samoan drop. Too bad Armando didn't get on the mic. -Cena rant on the roster was fine by my standards but it would've been much funnier if it had been the Rock -Tag match was fine but I REALLY hate the STFU. BAD: -Congrats to HHH and Stephanie for the birth of their daughter but did we have to flood the airwaves with it? Shane's kids never got the same treatment and I'm really NOT looking forward to the whole "HHH is the father OMG" angle that is going to come of this. -HBK segment @ the beginning with Coach was absolutley pathetic and the crowd was dead for the most part. -Tag title match was a farce. Maybe they are building up a Spirit Squad-Highlanders feud but who am I kidding, WWE creative can't write too many angles at once! Nevertheless, it was kinda cool to actually see two established (and I use that term loosely) teams fight it out for the titles for a change. -WHY was the WWE Championship not introduced until over 30 MINUTES into the show? They should have started the night off with the Edge-Cena issue and let HBK occupy the time they came on the air instead. It's the same problem I have with TNA: When Jarrett doesn't have the belt he's still the focus and the champ is an afterthought. Same thing applies here with HHH. -I'm really tired of the commentary and Jim Ross in particular. I found his lecture about "respect" during the course of the evening absolutley sickening. I liked Ross before he started to blatantly go out of his way to cheer his "buddies" like Austin and Foley years and years ago and now he sounds pathetic cheering on the match. It's like he's a spectator and not a professional and the CONSTANT shilling of the product reminds me of Schiavone in WCW saying that every damn broadcast was going to be "the greatest night in the history of our sport." It's way overdone and makes you want to either put the show on mute or not watch at all. -I'm praying that Orton-Lawler isn't booked for next week but I think it's going to happen. -Coachman vs. HBK was terrible but what can you expect. Umaga saved it. -What a waste the Diva search is. I hate the Miz. Nuff' said on that.

OAO ECW on Sci-Fi Thread for 7/25 (Week 7)
Danville_Wrestling replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
I guess it's RAW's turn to plug in a guy for the main event this week. What's next week? Rey Mysterio channeling the soul of ECW's Eddie Guerrero? -
WWE News and Notes: WON 7/24/06
Danville_Wrestling replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
Was this the kid who knew "nothing" about wrestling? No, I'm 99.9% sure that is someone else. That kid who knew nothing about wrestling asking Hogan all those questions was hilarious. -
All I want is a return to the gameplay on the N64 versions with the grappling system, is that too hard to achieve? Also I'd like CAW slots and be able to edit wrestlers appearance, not just their movesets. Any word on TNA's EA Sports game?

WWE News and Notes: WON 7/24/06
Danville_Wrestling replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
Thanks for posting, I always love reading these week in and week out. -
The STUPIDITY of this promotion today just astounds me. Why Vince allows writers like Gewirtz to write shitty TV week in and week out is beyond me. Better yet, I'm surprised HHH allows his buddy Flair to be treated like this. You would think HHH would be there in the back saying to the writers "don't you know who in the hell your talking about here?!?"

OAO The Great American Bash Thread - July/23rd/2006.

I really want to see how many buys this pay-per-view gets. Glad to see Booker finally get the World title strap after he'd been screwed over for years. All hail King Booker! -
I concur with people's assessments of last night's Smackdown!. I wouldn't be surprised if Rhodes was booking because Flair wrote in his book that Dusty had an awesome mind for the business and had good creative ideas. The only thing that screwed him up, though, was that he wrestled and booked which made him put himself over other talent. Either way, OVW and Smackdown! are my two favorite shows of the week.

Boy I can't wait for HHH and Doane to face off at WM in a couple of years only to have HHH get on the mic and bury Doane by saying something like "weren't you that cheerleader I beat up on a regular basis several summers ago." You just know its coming.

History of the WWE Championship 3-DVD Set
Danville_Wrestling replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
Why does the WWE have to be so cheap to get rid of Jesse's commentary? I mean its the man's "intellectual property" so pay him his money nevermind the fact that his interactions with Monsoon, McMahon, and Schiavone have been some of the funniest stuff in WWE/WCW history. It's like this company just does little things to piss on the fans, especially die hard fans who will probably have the highest interest in this set especially if they were fans for the disk one matches. One other thing, why is Backlund-Sheik not on the list? I've never seen it and can't attest to its quality but I figured they'd use it as a way to transition into the Hogan title win. -
2006 Bored's College Football Pick 'Em Sign Up Thread
Danville_Wrestling replied to Bored's topic in Sports
Can I get in? I really enjoy pick 'em contests and keep forgetting every year to join this one. If so, I'll take Kentucky -
I haven't played in one of these before but I'd like to get in on the action. I'll take Minnesota unless there's a complication.

Wasn't it WCW who hosted a pay-per-view on or near a U.S. military base and had Sting face a wrestler named "The Terrorist"? I remember reading that somewhere and it made me laugh since in the real world I doubt the U.S. military would willingly allow a terrorist to come onto its territory even for a wrestling match.

Lashley and Khali removed from GAB PPV
Danville_Wrestling replied to BorneAgain's topic in The WWE Folder
Don't forget Savage too since his "poisoning" via Robert's snake caused him to get taken out of the Survivor Series so the WWF could rip off their customers and put the Savage-Roberts encounter on Tuesday in Texas. I think the Bossman/LOD vs. Disasters/IRS match would've been much more exciting if both of them had been involved. Is that why he dropped the US Title a couple of weeks ago? Yes. I think Dave said Lashley dropping the title was "punishment" so I would figure that violating the wellness policy would figure into him dropping the strap to Finlay. -
History of the WWE Championship 3-DVD Set
Danville_Wrestling replied to Enigma's topic in The WWE Folder
Definitely agree. Their match from Over the Edge 1998 should be included because it was innovative for its time since the whole "evil McMahon character" was in its infancy. It's definitely one of my favorite matches of all time and bought the tape of the event simply to have the match in my collection. The finish where the Undertaker chokeslams Brisco and Patterson through the announce tables when they try to count the pinfall for Foley and Austin using McMahon's unconscious hand to count the three was an excellent finish. Also, the crowd heat was amazing. Looks like a decent DVD set and I might pick it up but I don't think they really needed that Cena triple threat match on there. However, we all know the WWE is high on Cena so one of his matches was going to be on here whether we wanted it to be or not.
