Travis are a band that I like, don't get me wrong, but stood alongside fellow Scots Franz Ferdinand, they just look weak. Frontman Fran Healy writes thoughtful and honest songs, ripping off - usually quite well - Peter Buck, the Byrds and some Brit-pop stylings. However, their singles aside, Travis are not a good album-band. They can write an average album, with a few good songs in between and so fall under the 'average' category. Thanks to the new 'harder' Scottish acts, Travis have fallen away into the distance as they are far too soft to do anything other than strum arpeggiated chords and slap a tambourine on the beat.
