Man, I have to laugh at this. I suppose it's because I live in the D.C. area. D.C. has pretty strict gun laws, but that doesn't stop us from having an incredibly high violent crime rate - I've lost track of the number of school shootings we've had this year. Word of advice to you tourists: don't ever go into South East - especially not after dark. I don't believe it is in there - it's more than likely statutory law, no doubt reinforced with case law. I would also recommend the following text, which was required reading for an undergrad class I took on firearms: Targeting Guns: Firearms and Their Control by Gary Kleck. It's a bit dry to read at times, as Klecks spends significant portions of the book dissecting and disproving much of the research conducted on firearms, and this can get a little boring. But his own work is intriguing. His conclusion is simple: the data shows that private ownership of guns DOES prevent crime. And for those who think Kleck's a conservative schill: he's a Democrat. A member, in fact, of the ACLU, as well as a host of other "liberal" groups such as Amnesty International, Independent Action, Democrats 2000, and Common Cause. But he approaches the data in an unbiased manner.

I'm pretty sure it was Gotham Knights in the Hush follow-up story that didn't really accomplish much outside of that. You're right, it was in Gotham Knights. I haven't read the arc where The Joker's true origin is revealed yet. I do however know the gist of it. It basically established Alan Moore's "The Killing Joke" as Joker's official origin, only with the added twist that instead of his wife dying accidentally, it was a murder made to look like an accident. You know, they've tried to build up Hush as a bad-ass villain, but his motivations for hating Batman so strongly are still pretty thin if you ask me. I blame Loeb.

My girlfriend has seen it three times while she was in New Mexico waiting for the start of school. She said she liked the film but the ending the first time caught her very much off guard. Apparently "Without a paddle" is a couples movie in disguise. Much like "Wicker Park" is a romantic film in the disguise of a thriller. Alright, now you have to explain. What's up with the ending? Do they all die or something like that?

And it ended with a sack! First season win for Joe Gibbs after a 12 year break from the NFL. And finally......FINALLY.....it looks as if we poor Washingtonians may finally have something to look forward to this football season - and NOT wind up disappointed in the end.
