Not so sure about that. I'm thinking Superman Returns won't get past X-Men for the same reason that 4 or 5 of the X-Men comics consistently sell more than any of the Superman comics (and always being near the top of the sales list) every month despite most of them being shit (execpt Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, that kicks ass), the X-Men are percieved as being 'cooler.'
-
Oh you did NOT just say that about Dream Theater.
-
That probably had nothing to do with the people who were running it live, but rather the mix that the video feed was doing.
-
I'm quite willing to bet it didn't actually say 'LOL' in the original comic book page.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnd, Smith doesn't touch the trophy.

I wouldn't even be that cruel. IT WAS ME!!! IT WAS ME ALL ALONG MARVIN!!!!!!!!! Not really. Good detective work there Batman.

Just read book three and so far 52 has me hooked. The format looks like it's really going to allow for some really good developing of stories. And Black Adam once again proves his badassness.

Ok, this one wins. Hands down.

Well in that case please continue.

There have been some really good points made in this thread. As well, a lot of people are confusing 'defining' artist with 'artist I really like.' Eminem was the first to come to mind, but I do agree with the sentiment that he doesn't really have the songs that will go down in music history for decades to come. Someone made the point for Kelly Clarkson and I think that's a reasonable gamble. We'll have to see how well her next album does, but I think she's going to keep getting more and more popular. Radiohead, no. When I think '1990s' the FIRST thing that pops into my mind is OK Computer, but since then have they proven to be a 'defining' artist. The best point made is that these days everything's retro. There's been no new pop culture zeitgeist for a really long time. I got this from Rolling Stone: Top Tours of 2005 A rundown of the artists who've earned the most money so far this year: 1. U2 Gross: $236 million Number of shows: 77 2. Elton John Gross: $63 million Number of shows: 58 3. Rod Stewart Gross: $49 million Number of shows: 58 4. Dave Matthews Band Gross: $45 million Number of shows: 51 5. Paul McCartney Gross: $37 million Number of shows: 17 6. Eagles Gross: $36 million Number of shows: 29 7. Jimmy Buffett Gross: $35 million Number of shows: 21 8. Motley Crue Gross: $33 million Number of shows: 81 9. Green Day Gross: $32 million Number of shows: 62 10. Bruce Springsteen Gross: $25 million Number of shows: 52 It was pretty much the same for 2004 (except I think Fleetwood Mac was in the top 5). Where are the modern popular music acts on there? Besides Green Day, there aren't any. Back in the 70s when bands like Zeppelin and the Stones were the defining acts of the time they were selling out huge arenas. Zeppelin did a few shows in the States (just them no other bands on the bill) that topped 90,000 in attendance. Today's MTV bands can not do huge arena shows. This isn't becasue of oversaturation or prices, it's because people don't get as connected with the music anymore. So in conclusion, I also cast my vote for Wesley Willis

Please spare us the running commentary of you listening to an album. For this thread at least.

Bizzare. Here's part 1 of Newsarama's interview. I honestly can't think of anything to say here so......

SNL Season Finale Review- featuring a look back at the season
ZGangsta replied to bob_barron's topic in Television & Film
I agree, I really dig that song. And normally I hate that type of dance/R&B pop. But whatever, I can't hate on Nelly Furtado since I grew up a few blocks from her. -
Yeah, but it's not just the progression it's how you play it. In this case though, the way they're played are very close to each other. I don't know, a few days ago when I looked up how to play Dani California on guitar and started playing it the first thought that popped into my mind after couple bars was "hey, Last Dance With Mary Jane." So I'm sure the band knew the similarities when they were recording it. But whatever, welcome to Rock and Roll. Like every song ever was ripped off from something.

Exactly. It's the same point I made in the Superman Returns thread about Darksied. You can't get too sci-fi with these movies. How is a movie about alien mystical forces, imperial trials, and space battles going to fit in with the themes of the first 2 movies about human persecution and loneliness. It would be laughable to include the Shi'ar at all. And besides, all these superhero movies are adaptations of general concepts and themes from comic books. They don't need to follow the plots at all if it's not going to work. In fact, if they stuck exactly to the comic books it would be incredibly boring because you'd know what was going to happen all the time. Unless it's an artistic experiment like Sin City. After reading the negative reviews at AICN it all seems so pretentious. Like they're acting as if they're smarter than everyone else because they know how the plot should go. Although, I actually don't buy any of those reviewers from AICN as actually having followed any of these comics. It seems like they just claim to be 'huge fans of the source material' at the beginning of every review to up their credibility. If you go to any actual comic book review/insider web sites, the people who actually know all the material never seem to have a problem with changes being made. I've been hating on X3 for quite some time, but now I find myself really psyched to see it.

Good on Hicks for winning, he's the man. I would have rather had Daughtry winning this thing, but Taylor (or Elliot) was my second choice. There's something really cool about a 29 year old grey haired crazy dude winning American Idol. I agree that it'll be hard for them to do the right record for him, but if they get it right it could be really great. Yeah, I get the sense that Kat probably like gets a new car for each birthday and christmas or something. The Puck N Pickler segments were great. Prince was awesome, Toni Braxton is super hot for a 40 year old woman, and I fucking hate Mary J Blige. I also agree that Meatloaf and Kat totally should have done 'Paradise by the Dashboard Lights.' It never would have happened, but it would have been totally sweet. I still wanna punch nerdlinger Covais. Clay Aiken has EMO POWER~! I swear I kept having the same thoughts. "And then he served us all pancakes." Overall I'd say that was a really great finale episode, and was a pretty entertaining (and adictive) season. It was the first season of AI I really watched, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but it certainly as sucess in terms of votes and ratings.

The Hypno-Hustler one is so awesome.

I thought Katherine's single was god awful. Taylor's was pretty bad too, but he sang it way better. I think it was pretty unfair to give them these crappy untested singles as their last songs. Especially considering the fact that they obviously weren't written with the current two contestants in mind. They probably wrote a couple tracks for women and a couple for men weeks or months ago without knowing who would be singing them. Plus these modern pop scholk songs that they got are totally meant to sound good in the studio with multiple takes, effects, and post editing. Katherine totally got owned by that fact for a lot of her song.

I thought the thing he said at the end of the episode was to make sure they give him the anthestetic and not the coma treatment that would potentially cure his leg. So his leg will still be fucked up. Unless I'm remembering that wrong.
-
Yeah, Audacity works pretty well and is quite versatile for a free program.

Nope. The one time Kitty tried to get Peter to fuck her, Peter flat-out told her no because of the age problem. Kitty would remain a virgin until she fucked Warren Ellis's personel comic book avatar Pete Wisdom back in 1995, in the pages of Excalibur..... Soooooooooo Warren Ellis is a member of the Super Adventure Club? I'm going with Longshot here, but Psylocke sucks too. Anyone read the last few issues of Uncanny (I swear Claremont can't write anymore) where she's back from the dead and now like some super important psychic weapon for some coming cosmic cataclysim?

Could one of you guys catch me up on the Marvel Universe?
ZGangsta replied to haws bah gawd's topic in Literature
Geez, that Abraxas guy looks pretty fruity. -
Gawd. Why do we have to wait until june 30 to see this? New trailer looked amazing. If all of the plane crash sequence looks as phenominal as the small pieces seen in the trailer so far, it could be one of the best action sequences ever. And that bullet to the eye was badass. I can't wait to see this.

Oh yeah and it led to that amazing moment where he starts singing 'Tell me More' from Greese on the bleachers and then sees Veronica with a guy and goes Jeff Hardy over the railing off the side.

....pay...for...broken...hand...fixing...? I'm confused. Right right, you don't live in Canada. I'm with Leena, be a man and work through it. You'll earn the respect of your new workplace AND have a great story to tell people in 10,20,30 years when they ask "hey why does old man Ripper only have one hand?"
