  1. Yeah it definately looks like a dark comedy.
  2. 94 Democrats voted against it as well. Where's the vitriol for them? Seems like neither party's members were completely satisfied about this bill. No didn't you hear? The bill was great and was going to go through but then Nancy Pelosi was mean so 2/3 of the Republicans had to put a stop to those shenannigans. Edit: Also, is it just me or does W look like he's aged like 20 years in the last month?
  3. Yeah that inspires confidence doesn't it. So what they're saying is that all these Republicans were GOING to vote for the bill (thought the bill was fine and everything), were GOING to do what it takes to save the economy, but then Pelosi went up and said some mean things about George W. So either two-thirds of the Republicans in the house are complete hacks who would vote against an insanely important bill just out of spite, or they're lying and never planned on supporting the bill in the first place and are now PRETENDING that they didn't vote for it because of spite.
  4. Yeah, all those years of giant government and huge spending and they pick NOW to start pretending to act like conservatives.
  5. Two-thirds of the Republicans voted against it, I don't think they were interested in making a statement against the president. And holy fuck the stock market!
  6. Yeah Oasis is selling out arenas on a US tour right now. It's not like they're struggling to pack people into a club show or anything. I still dig Oasis when I hear them, I liked them when I was a kid in the 90s. And Blur fucking sucks, aside from the nostalgia of the novelty of Song 2. Parklife? Fuck off.
  7. Yeah it's ironic how we bitch over and over again in Canada about exactly this (and a lack of secondary industry) and people are willing to elect a guy who thinks this is actually a fine way of running things.
  8. That "Based on a true story" tagline is fucking brilliant.
  9. I love that "If you ask any average American who the leader of Iran is" part. Retard, I don't want 'any average American' in charge of foreign policy, I'd want someone who actually knows that it's the Ayatollah who is calling the shots.
  10. This is true. Ahmadinejad does not have power over Iran's military. Apparently in Iran he's mocked by his political opponents for acting like he is the head of the military. It's seen as empty tough guy political posturing.
  11. That was one of the least effective ambushes I've ever seen, the Sons come out guns blazing, at relatively close range, from 3 positions, with large numbers completely surprising the other gang, and only manage to take out 1 guy. Really digging this show so far though. The lead character kind of annoyed me at first but now I like him. So the basic premise of this show is based on Hamlet.
  12. Those clips of Paling talking to Katie Couric that are making their way around the net are just... my god. This woman has no clue.
  13. Warren Buffet, the 2nd richest guy in the world, freely admits that he pays less tax (as a percentage of his income) than his employees. http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/20...n-buffet-p.html This bullshit rhetoric that conservatives put out there that the rich are unfairly taxed is completely insane and it amazes me how so many people at the low end of income will buy into that and support that idea.
  14. Well our conservatives seem to have the same idea as your conservatives, bitch about losing jobs for "good hard working people" but then not do anything about it and insist "No guys, it's cool, the free market will sort it out."
  15. Yeah Ronnie was there for that whole conversation at the end of the first episode that culminated with "Now we just sit back and watch the gang war."
  16. Well, if it makes any difference - I'd never vote for a Federal Liberal, no matter what his surname may be, anyway. That said, as someone said above, I do miss the old PC party. It was a nice mix of red/blue. Sure, the new CPC party has been good to me economically.. You're lucky you didn't have any exposure to income trusts, cause a lot of people got really screwed on that. And that was a huge tax increase out of the blue. One that Harper PROMISED wouldn't happen (and constantly painted the Liberals as evil boogeymen by claiming they would raise taxes on income trusts) in his 2006 election platform. So don't give him any praise for tax cuts, or believe anything he says in this election cycle about taxes. (Hell the guy's been in power 2 years and it seems like he's already broken more promises than in Cretien's whole reign so don't believe what he says about anything) Yeah you always see some fringe right wing GOP-style stuff pop up in this iteration of the Conservative party from time to time. I agree about McKay. It was a real shame that Harper beat him for the leadership. I probably still wouldn't vote for the Conservatives, but McKay definately seems alright.
  17. 25 might be high, but I think they'll show pretty strongly; they're clearly the most concerned with the environment. That's really all I know about them, but that might be enough to win them some seats. I'd say they'll be lucky to pick up more than 1 or 2. They'll get a lot more support this year because people are a lot more concerned with the environment than other years, and the leader is part of the telivised debates this time. But this party has never had an MP elected before and they definately don't have much money. I think they'll be more and more of a force as the years go on, especially if they get over that hump of actually getting someone elected to parliament, but that 25 seats number, no offense to you, is batshit insane. My gut feeling as of right now is: -there will be a majority for the Conservatives (which scares the shit out of me) -the Liberals will lose big -the NDP will have big gains -Bloc takes a couple losses -Green picks up 1 seat
  18. Whoah, you really think the Green party will pick up 25 seats?
  19. I can't bring myself to vote for the current incarnation of the Liberal party so it'll probably be NDP. I'm already throwing up over the possibility of Harper getting a majority. There's no one in the world I'd like to slap more than Stephen Harper. Just something about his face.
  20. I'd say Uma Thurman and Tommy Lee Jones were far more embarrassingly awful than Arnnie in that movie series.
  21. I'm loving how there's all these conservative commentators/pundits (who have spent years railing against political correctness, affirmative action, 'forced' equal treatment, etc) all of a sudden sobbing about sexism.
  22. Yeah that was Donner's run on Action Comics last year with Geoff Johns and it was looking phenomenal. There was a really really good reimagining of Zod and his crew and it gave them some really great backstory. Unfortunatly the whole thing degnerated into a colossal mess because DC put one of the worthless Kubert brothers on art (how those guys get work on what are supposed to be regular series I'll never understand) and it got delayed and delayed by months at a time that the whole storyline never got the conclusion it deserved. But it's worth reading now that you could get all the issues together and not have to deal with the delays and stuff. And Geoff Johns is doing killer work now on Action Comics. If you want to see how Superman can be handled well, check that out. Issue 866 (up to 868 now) is a great jumping on point since it's the start of a new storyline with Braniac.
  23. Your mouse had a mute button?
  24. I read a decent idea for Superman's son if they do end up doing a sequel to Returns. Clearly the kid has to go, so have the villain of the film somehow trap him in the Phantom Zone (which was already established in this movie series continuity), so Superman thinks he's dead and there you can get your 'darkness' that they want. And then over the years the kid only ages into a teenager and gets freed from the zone in the 31st century. So there you've got a 'Superboy' type figure for a Legion movie.
  25. Bryan Singer wanted to do a darker, more action packed, larger scale sequel to Superman Returns featuring an enemy like Braniac, so I wonder if WB will let him do his Man of Steel movie. They did say they were open to Singer coming back if he was on board with their change in tone. I do think replacing Routh would be a big mistake though.
