  1. I'm gonna bitch about retail now, yet again. This time about acts of co-workers, though. I fucking detest shelf stuffing. Always have. For example, if we're out of Product A, don't put a few extra of Product B in A's spot. This results in one of two problems. One, Product A's shelf label is not removed on the grounds that more will come in sooner or later. If several of Product B are in that spot but are a different price, we're handcuffed to sell it for the price of Product A. Or, the shelf label is removed, and then no one can remember what was initially in that spot, enabling a vicious cycle. I'd remember what was there, but I'm like the Spongebob Squarepants of Wal*Mart. Come to think of it, my remembering what goes where shouldn't be that monumental a feat; I'm sure there's a few that fall through the cracks, but for the stuff I can't recall specifically, I at least can ballpark it. If I spend 15 or 20 minutes elapsed over an eight-hour shift in each aisle or section.....guhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. What prompted this rant? Well, I'd always hated it, but it was really brought to light Thursday morning when I came to work. Because the store is grossly shortstaffed, Electronics has about ten skids of stock that the inventory team hasn't punched into the system, and no one has stocked. So even though we know exactly what's there, we're encouraged to not put it on the shelf. A bigwig was coming to visit Friday morning (about a week after every mod layout changed), so the interim store manager rounded up about five other employees and told them "Just fill the shelves any way you can". Now, I don't mean to pat myself on the back, but even though I'm Connection Centre (and not electronics any longer), I always help them out. I re-did the TV, Home Theatre, and AV Accessories layout for them....and it's all pretty well been undone. Nothing is in the proper spot, which trivializes the ten or eleven hours of work I did to help them out. We now have SIX facings of 25-foot RG6 cable, but in doing so, spots were eliminated for three universal remotes and composite cables, both of which sell like hotcakes. Groaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. Hey, that feels better.
  2. Is that why you haven't put in your hockey write-up or votes?
  3. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a critique in any way. Just an observation.
  4. I saw Weirsy at one of the practise rounds of the 06 Canadian Open. That was ideal; it's tough to imagine doing that on Sunday, or at a busier event. Would have been nice to get an autograph or handshake, but the forty-five seconds in which he was walking off the 18th green to the clubhouse, when two or three thousand people crammed up like sardines? Nah, I couldn't do that for long. And I don't wanna get to ahead of myself; but he's got a share of the lead with Eric Axley after 18.
  5. First, I really like Ginger's use of Philistines. Not that I think of anyone here as either settler, medieval (or prior), or admirers of anything either symbolic of or legitimately Goliath. I just think it's rare. Kudos. Second, there seems to have been a lot of Simpsons lines used here lately. This confuses me, especially in the light of my relative flop of a thread about that show.
  6. From the convenience store just now: 12 Bud, an energy drink for my roomie, a scratch-and-win ticket (I didn't), and two pepperettes.
  7. No worries. Barring any kind of "save our playoffs" petition from all of you, I'll be scrapping the playoffs. This is due to the slow moving voting, and my pending cross-country move. I still need picks from EMHE, 909, Mfer, Treble, Smartly, and Goblin.
  8. In hindsight, I'd have given just about anything to see Weir-Tiger. In practise, I talked to a customer a few years ago who had been to the 2004 Ryder Cup. Apparently it's, discounting the golf, an awful tournament to attend. He explained that "when you factor in that there's at most, 24 guys on the course at one time, it means a lot of people crammed together. It's tough to move around or see anything unless you get there early."
  9. I'll get the occasional craving for a hot sub*. Thus, Hot: Buffalo chicken. Stupid amount of hot sauce. Cheddar, mayo (a surprisingly good accident), little lettuce, pickles. On Italian Herb & Cheese. Cold: Turkey, ham, and bacon. Cheddar again, little lettuce, pickles, cucumbers, mayo, sub sauce, honey mustard. Again, on Italian Herb & Cheese. *Very, very seldom will I have a hot sub. On the other hand, I'd much rather have a hot sandwich or burger/chicken breast sammich than a sub.
  10. I don't remember a big deal over Labbatt's being bought out. American Bud, which I'm told is a different brew than its Canadian counterpart, is pretty good. And I didn't realise Yuengling was so big; My grandparent cross the border to either Rochester or Syracuse about once a year, and they always buy some. They're the only people I've heard mention it. It's not bad, almost a cider-y taste. And re: the Cowboy hat. That picture of us in our hats, in front of the Bud wagon is a hit on Facebook.
  11. I, too, am astonished that no one took Guerrero-Angle from XX, or HHH-Rock from SS 98. I thought I had taken the dumpster match. Hmm.
  12. It's hardly a gimme, but I'd gladly take a chance on Murray...............................if it were under 2mil a year. Oh yeah, does Mike Milbury qualify for the "Pundits You Hate" in CE? Cuz I hate him. And finally, is it too late to make a Monty Python joke about Czech's Wrigley Field/Juniper Bush bit?
  13. Conversation with a college kid Walmart co-worker last January. Rob: What kinda beer you drinkin nowadays, Collins? CG: I don't normally buy it, but my dad and bro both drink Coors Light. They were over earlier in the week, so I have a dozen or so left. Rob: What? Coors Light!? The worst beer ever! CG: What? It's pretty well water! Rob: It's disgusting! CG: What do you know? You're in college! I was getting kicked out of bars before you hit puberty! Rob: Shut up. CG: Do you have any idea how much malt liquor I drank in college? And you're telling me an unbelievably easy drinking beer is disgusting? At this point, a customer who'd been progressively enjoying our argument came and shook my hand. That is all.
  14. Best bad joke ever: "And the Lord said to John 'Come forth and receive eternal life', but John came fifth, and won a toaster instead."

After months of pandering, I'm settling on the Vizio 42VUL. Even if I'm not working at Wal*Mart by then, 1000 bucks for a 42" 1080p sounds awfully good. The response time is good at 6.5 ms, and it's got two HDMI, plus a fibre optic out for a home theatre I'm looking at.

I can't say for certain with a 360, but I didn't notice a major difference with my cable box, when comparing HDMI to component. This is probably underlined by the 720p you mentioned (since 1080p typically requires HDMI). The only discernible difference I noticed was less noise around text. I will say it was infinitely more convenient having one cable, as opposed to five, especially with how often I unplugged my 360 to take anywhere with me.
  17. Hells yeah. The crowd was fuckin insane when Austin climbed the cage to beat up Kane. Good times.
  18. It's in. Sorry for the delay. Take your time on the picks, but ideally we'll have it done by the end of the week.
  19. There's a Raw from June 98, with a TT Royal Rumble. I've hyped it a bunch in the last few months, and it's probably my favourite Raw ever.
  20. I was just thinking that. It's a vastly different course from 2002 (or more accurately, vastly longer), and certainly different from when he last earned a trip there in 2000. It'll be cool to see, though.
  21. An eagle at 17, and Paddy repeats.
  22. I'm up for it. Norman's opened with three straight bogeys. He's one back of Paddy.
  23. What time do you start? It'll wrap up by around 1030 here.
  24. RB's name is actually Harold Ballard. And I'm one word. I'm in. Obligatory "This year I'm getting into the playoffs" bit.
