Colin Powell to step down as Sec'y of State

Recommended Posts

Guest INXS

I kinda liked Powell, he was certainly the best of a bad bunch. He seemed to be fairly moderate and had good relationships with Europe. Highlights of his time as the US sec of state include singing YMCA and attempting to convince the UN of saddam's WMD's, complete with photographs, which turned out to be false info. Sadly, Condi has the new job which really puts things in a worse way as she's too far to the right and pays little attention to detail.

Are you actually quoting Pravda in your sig?

The biggest plus we have now is that Rice is considerably brighter than the diplomats of other countries.

Are you actually quoting Pravda in your sig?

“America was betrayed and murdered on Nov. 2, 2004. Also killed during this time of madness were the following virtues: truth, justice, integrity, freedom, compassion, brotherhood, tolerance, faith, hope, charity, peace, and respect for other cultures and nations.”

-- Pravda

This is good for you, Mike. Now nobody can ever, ever, ever say the sources you cite are too biased to be valid.

My guess on what will happen now that Powell has resigned:

He will sponser a new laxative called "Colon Pow!"

Hey, why not?

One good thing about Condi being new Sec. of State: The left is showing themselves to be virulent racists in their cartoons and comments about her.

I guess she's not one of the good dark-skinned folks who the civil rights movement was meant to protect.

The Dixiecrat movement is hardly dead --- it's just moved into positions of "respectability" in the MSM.

I suppose at some point you will actually mention what I should be apologizing for.

I think that cartoon was meant to imply that Rice is merely a 'yes-woman' for President Bush...I fail to see the racism in it.

Maybe the cartoonists should draw Rice as a white woman, Mike? I dont reallly see what your point is...

The big lips, buckteeth, and insanely demeaning dialogue?

Yeah, I can see how you'd miss the racial undertones there.

I don't see it, either.

Bush is talking to her in baby talk, how is that racially demeaning? Rice is talking like a parrot. And I don't think her lips and teeth look exceptionally large either--just bird-like.

Rice does have kind of a reputation as a "yes-woman" for Bush. She even once, in what might be considered a Freudian slip, referred to him as "my husband."

Maybe I'm just being naive, but I definitely don't think the cartoon is overtly racist. I'd like to see what other people think.

She does have a tooth gap, and I haven't seen a cartoon of her from anyone with her lips parted that ignores it. I wouldn't say it's so much worth calling racism as simply the cartoonist trait of taking something identifiable with someone and exaggerating it. That's why Dubya always has huge ears or Clinton had a really fat face in everybody's cartoons.

I got ruined by the Apprentice because everytime I see her I think of Omarosa. They look close enough to be related. Plus they both lie like mad.

Suggesting that that picture is racist is grasping at straws to the extreme.

No. Quoting Chomsky is grasping.

Ignoring racism when it's done against a conservative is par for the course for the left.

I'll admit, it's there. Not major, but it's there.

I don't think it was intentional, but there are some racist overtones involved.

Mostly it's just them saying she is another Yes man for Bush so if anything else came out of it, I can't believe it was meant to be there.

It absolutely was intentional. This isn't the first time Rice has been portrayed in a demeaning manner (Doonesbury did it to her a while back as well).

See, I haven't seen those. I'm working off this one cartoon. If there is a pattern, perhaps one that accuses Rice of being an "uncle tom" or whatever that dumb term is for successful black individuals then maybe I could agree or disagree.

Right now, I have one cartoon to work off and I'm just seeing mild racism that may or may not have been intentional. Again, this is what I'm seeing.

I don't see any racism at all - it may appear to be racist to those that are grasping at straws.

Bush has been drawn to look like a white guy in a suit because he is a white guy, Condi has been drawn to look black because she IS black. There's no racism involved.

Rice has been portrayed as speaking like a really bad black stereotype. If this was done to Jesse Jackson, there would be calls for his head.

I know you don't see the racism --- it is happening to a conservative and you feel it's justified.

Ok, that first one is racist as fuck.

The second one, nah. Not funny, but not racist.

But that first one...yeah, that one is racist as hell.

Also, drawn to look black? How exactly do you draw someone to look black? Other than color, there is nothing else needed to make someone look white or look black.
