Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 (edited) The way I figure it, puro folders and forums, as well as the ROH and CZW fanboards have a bunch of special threads for tape recommendations, and independent wrestling is just as much of a niche interest as puroresu is, (it's pretty much the same thing actually) so I figure we should have our own thread for tape recommendations, anything you find, no matter what combo of letters the federation is. I like basically every tape I own, so I'll list my tape catalog from home- so you can finally see how big of a geek I really am, lol ROH Crowning a Champion Honor Invades Boston Unscripted Night of the Butcher High Impact TV eps 13-16 Expect the Unexpected The Epic Encounter Frontiers of Honor (review coming soon on TSM) Do Or Die CZW * Best of the Best 1 Take 1 Answering the Challenge Best of the Best 2 Ultraviolent Freedom of Expression Cage of Death 4 One More Time Divide and Conquer Best of the Best 3 Extreme 8 *all will eventually be reviewed on TSM IWA Mid-South Ted Petty Invitational When Hero Met Punk We Are Family NWA Wildside Fright Night 2001 Freedom Fight 2002 Freedom Fight 2003 (review coming soon to TSM) Best Of Compilations Best of Colt Cabana Vol 1 (reviewed on TSM) Best on the Indies Vol 3: the Messiah (reviewed on TSM) Best of the Backseat Boyz (reviewed on TSM) Best of Special K: Higher and Higher(review coming soon to TSM) Best of Jason Cross (review coming soon to TSM) Best of Jimmy Rave (review coming soon to TSM) Best of Wildside Vol 20 (Review coming soon to TSM) IWS Know Your Enemies 2003 (reviewed on TSM) Violent Valentine Season's Beatings Tape sites: RF Video (www.rfvideo.com) Smart Mark Video (www.smartmarkvideo.com) Emax Wrestling Tapes (www.emaxwrestlingtapes.com- HIGHLY recommended for Canadian tape buyers) Melanie McKee/h3sgirl's wrestling tapes (http://mmm30504.tripod.com/h3sgirlswrestlingtapes/) Wrestling Superstore (www.wrestlingsuperstore.com) Edited September 10, 2003 by ShooterJay
bob_barron Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 I'll list the ROH have and my thoughts- All Star Extravaganza- Best ROH show ever. The 6-man tag, Tommy Dreamer, Ohtani/Tanaka v. Low Ki/Corino, Dragon v. Styles, London v. Dragon- It's awesome. http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/videos/a...p?videos_id=679 Revenge on the Prophecy- A fun show featuring a great tag match, a very good 4-way and Dragon v. Joe. http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/videos/a...p?videos_id=683 Round Robin Challenge II is a something for everyone show. Daniels v. London and Homicide v. Punk are two **** matches. http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/videos/a...p?videos_id=689 Do or Die- No London, no Red, no Low Ki, no Styles, no Dragon- no problem. This show is a lot of fun to watch and has a brutal main event between Joe and Homicide. http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/videos/a...p?videos_id=696 Final Battle- London has his first big main event match and passes with flying colours. A good 45 minute draw and a fun scramble also are on this one. Also you can see hit Fleisch. http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/videos/a...p?videos_id=706 Night of Grudges- London v. Styles. All you need to know. http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/videos/a...p?videos_id=710
Zack Malibu Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 CZW Then and Now. Acid and Homicide put on a **** contest that stole the show.
Guest Real F'n Show Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 My favorite ROH show and one I would definately recommend is the original round robin challenge with Ki/Dragon/Daniels. All 3 matches are at least ***3/4 and it also has Spanky/Briscoe and some other decent stuff as well. Also Jay, will the other IWS shows ever be reviewed for the site?
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 The IWS shows WILL eventually be done, but a ways away. Llakor will eventually send the Paradise City Ninjas a DVD of Freedom to Fight, which once we get it we'll make a top priority. Here's the rough order of upcoming reviews and articles. 1. Wildside Freedom Fight 2003 2. Interview with Wildside PBP announcer Dan "The Dragon" Wilson 3. CZW Extreme 8 4. Best of Special K: Higher and Higher 5. CZW One More Time Oh and Zack, I just realized I forgot to plug your place for tapes in this thread, so it's now up top and on now: Wrestling Superstore (www.wrestlingsuperstore.com)
Nevermortal Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Recommendation for the big blood/violence marks in the crowd... CZW: Tournament of Death. Ultraviolence at its absolutely finest.
Sandman9000 Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Of course, there will also be the PCN review of Best of the Best 3, as soon as I get around to doing it. Don't hold ye breath. My tapes, more or less in order of recommendation. Don't be afraid to skip around, though. LucharesuFan619 Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 XPW Retribution, Redemption, BIB2, Hostile Takeover, Fallout, LOD, and NOC were all great.
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 I'd put "Redefined" on the recommendations list, sight unseen, just to see the Hero return, and the controversial ending. I also just picked up the IWA-MS July 19th show, which features Captain HUSS and Alex Shelley wrestling each other 3 times in 3 different gimmick matches (pinfalls-only, Texas DM, submission match.)
Zack Malibu Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 Topic pinned, for easier access to adding recs, as well as updating your personal collections (in case anyone is interested in sharing/trading).
tpww7 Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 Just picked up ROH Wrath of the Racket...definetly has a sorta different feel to it than other shows, but its good. Can't wait to pick up Bitter Friends, Stiffer Enemies next week, the show was great.
Guest Markingout Posted October 14, 2003 Report Posted October 14, 2003 ^^^^^^ I know I saw Wrath of the Racket it did feel strange. It also felt strange that justin Credible was in the best match IMO. Him and Styker was awesome. The main event was meh,as Homicide was in there the whole time. I like Homicide though.

Guest thetrendsetter Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 The 2003 Maritime Cup From Halifax, Nova Scotia Took Place on October 12th, 2003 A Maritime Super 8 Of Sorts Tape Can Be Bought From newscott.com
The Metal Maniac Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 I second that. Great show, just great.
tpww7 Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 ROH Bitter Friends, Stiffer Enemies, great show.
Guest Markingout Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 TPWW, Better Friends Stiffer Enemies was that good? I figured that Corino and Homicide was the only one worth checking out. How long did Low Ki and Maff go before the incident happened?
tpww7 Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Ki-Maff only went around 8-9 mins, but there are other matches worth checking out like Whitmer/Stryker, Joe/Punk, etc. There's nothing bad on the tape. Even Alexis/Becky is only like 2 mins.
Guest Markingout Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Ah,I see I guess I will check it out.
Mystery Eskimo Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 I'm currently picking up RoH tapes every now and then, and so far its all been great...but are there any shows that are actively bad and should be avoided?
Guest Max Peter David Posted November 13, 2003 Report Posted November 13, 2003 Final Battle 2002 is terrible, and Crowning a Champion is a one match tape.
Guest The Son of Sting Posted November 19, 2003 Report Posted November 19, 2003 http://www.smartmarkvideo.co.uk/ This is the best place to go for these tapes if your after PAL tapes (UK+Europe).
theintensifier Posted November 19, 2003 Report Posted November 19, 2003 http://www.bluethundervideo.com/ is a good site to get RoH, CZW, etc.
theintensifier Posted November 19, 2003 Report Posted November 19, 2003 http://www.sarnan.com/ this guy has a ton of CZW!
Guest bort Posted November 19, 2003 Report Posted November 19, 2003 I justed watched ROH death before dishonor...good show, good 4 way with Colt, Homicdie, BJ and MAff. Theres also the hardy inncident, Punk vs Raven chain match and Paul londons good bye match. good show
LucharesuFan619 Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 I just watched Super Dragon: Evolution for the first time in awhile and I'd definitely have to recommend that for the high-flying/stiff strikes type of fans. There are also great music videos on the tape and a classic match vs. Low Ki, among other great stuff. "Even Alexis/Becky is only like 2 mins." I was at the show and you're right, that's what everyone seems to be saying it was in length, but I swear to God it was so bad it literally seemed like 5 minutes long, and that's NO exaggeration. It was horrible.
