ESPN's "Playmakers"

Recommended Posts

Couple question's about ESPN's "Playmakers"-

1.) I know The name of The Fictional Team on The Show Is The Cougars, but have they ever disclosed what City/State they are playing In? (This actually reminds me of HBO's "OZ", In that for The entire duration of It's run, they never revealed where It was taking place. They just referred to It as "this state.")

2.) How many episodes are there remaining?

3.) I know It maybe a bit too early, but did anyone hear If there Is going to be a Second Season?

Thanks!

All you get from Oz is that it's on the east coast.

1...I don't know if they've gone into where the team is. It's football season and the weather seems to be nice, I'd guess the west.

2...I heard it was 15 episodes. But I don't know for sure.

3...I don't think anyone knows yet. So far I like it though. A lot more then I thought I would.

hmmm...guess I didn't really answer anything there :)

They play at a Dome, so I'm assuming up north where most domes are.

There are 11 Episodes according to their website...

The last one airs November 4th, 2003.

They have never mentioned a city, but they ahve played Seattle, New York, San Francisco, so it rules out those.

2nd season depends on ratings from this one, which are rumored to be high.

The Cougars play in "The City", where a big dumb guy in a blue suit runs around fighting crime. Or maybe they're playing in Metropolis...

I always thought it was L.A or was infered to be L.A...

here's a question...What's the name of the theme song and can I get it somewhere in like a full version or is it tv produced?

I've seen every episode so far, and plan on watching the rest of the season. But are my friends and I the only ones that find the shower getting dumber and dumber. I mean, I understand that one should suspend belief when watching TV, but this weeks episode was just downright retarded. The timing was way off, as if you paid attention to the halftime clock, things were happening at rediculous amounts of time. For instance, the Tight End or whatever was able to find his necklace, buy drugs, and DH was able to do those drugs in a matter of like 15 seconds. Being a die hard 24 fan, I just couldn't get past that.

Also, I thought it was hilarious watching the QB throw the ball a couple of episodes ago. I mean, he wasn't even throwing a spiral. They at least could have edited his passes to look respectable.

I like the show, but I hope that it doesn't get renewed for another season. ESPN should stick to TV movies, IMO.

Where as I don't care for their tv movies. The Bobby Knight one was ok, but BD was a hundred pounds too big to play Knight.

And the Junction Boys...they interviewed a handful of them on ESPN and they said that most of what happened in the movie never happened...and that they liked the coach

I know the game scenes are shot in the SkyDome in Toronto. But I guess that probably doesn't mean much as far as what city they're playing for storyline-wise.

And yeah, I wanted somebody to explain to me how a 20-minute halftime could last an hour. That was dumb.

I've liked the show so far, but I don't think it can go another season. They seem to being trying to shock every episode and they're going to run out of ideas. One thing I disliked was having the guy doing crack right before the game during I think it was the second episode. That was way too quick. You have to build up to that somewhere down the line by starting off small. I dont think they even should have said he does crack for a few episodes, just put in some signs of it so some people will pick up on it, then later on he is confronted about it.

Yeah, the DH druguse thing is a little overdone. And the deal about screwing Leon out of every game for DH is a little old now.

I think the show could work well if they stuck with a few guys for a couple eps, then moved on to a couple more. They could still go back to the old ones, but not make them the 100% focus.

It's almost a running gag, but really it's just done to establish the owner as a Steinbrenner/Schoot-type asshole...

1) i believe its Michigan as far as the "place" not positive on that

2) has anyone heard the rumors that the main players are based on real life nFL players and you can tell by the numbers they chose for the actors?

My friends and I were trying to figure out who was who, as I read in TV guide that the stories are based on real life stories more often than not.

We all know that the DH/Murder investigation was Ray Lewis.

DH as a whole has gotta be based on Lawerence Taylor (LT), with the drugs and such.

For some reason, I've been thinking that the Linebacker is supposed to be Romanowski. It seems like he's portrayed as a killer to the public but is a baby in private. I don't know if those are characteristics of Romanowski or not, but I don't know of any other white, killer linebackers.

Leon...We can't figure him out. I've been thinking Garrison Hearst, since he too is a proven veteran that has been hampered by injuries and keeps getting pressured by rookies.

The quarterback I have no idea on. Any guesses?

Mixture of young and old Aikman

young Aikman: Pretty boy who could get most women easily

old Aikman: constant injury concerns resulting in him being doped up during most games.

DH is a mix of LT/Lewis...

Connell is Aikman...

Ozylack is Romo...

Those are obvious...Leon is a stereotype...

That's the problem it acts as if those four are the ONLY players (Leon, Dh, Oz, Connell) with very little focus on the other guys...

You guys are forgetting about the lineman that is DH's friend.

Here's to hoping he is modeled after Leon Lett. I just want to see a trunck full of Coke (or whatever it was) on the show.

With ESPN's East Coast Bias, a team with players that screwed up probably was supposed to be an LA team. Only problem is that no football stadium in LA needs to be a dome, and everyone watching the series would infer it to LA anyway since it is without a team.

Who's the goody goody reciever who helped DH get drugs in the last ep?

A generic devout Christian. I guess his only role was really to put DH on the path to redemption...

Well, aside from the other lineman, they ARE the only players listed in the credits...

Someone needed to bump the thread.

I'm not usually a big fan of gay angles on tv shows...but I really like how they did it on Playmakers...although I was pissed how they bumped him off the show.

Great episode tonight...I'm really suprised how much I'm liking this show. And I'm glad they are going back and forth with characters instead of just sticking with main ones.

For some reason I thought it was in Colorado. *shrugs*

I know Playmakers isn't in Baltimore because they played that team for the episode I watched.

Unless Baltimore can support two NFL teams at the same time, which I doubt...

I'd wager that all this is leading to DH buying it in the last episode.

The way they got Guerewitz off was about the only they could go as far as making a positive statement goes. Good thing they have McMah-er, Wilbanks around as the evil owner to do these things...

Next week will own...DH and Snoop dogg? Quality baby...

Loved the show tonight as it was a very postitive yet honest message...

And we can erase L.A now since that's where the All-Pro game is...

I loved the episode, as well. Guerwitz(sp?) telling that dickhead O-lineman to fuck off in a roundabout way after hearing he made the All-Star team was great.

I am utterly clueless where the damn team is now...

L.A seemed right but it's not...

Maybe that's a part of the writer's intent...give us clues to where the city is...

Our one team is good enough that we don't have to.

Pittsburgh, on the other hand...

Back on topic: "Playmakers" eats deeply of the man-ass.

Gerewitz was a complex character i mean he was a devout christian who happens to be gay. And why would wilbanks want to put his best player on ir, i mean it wasnt like anyone would ever find out. in real life his boyfriend would have been paid off and then he would continue pretending to nail his hot ass "girlfriend"
