Guest wrestlingbs Report post Posted October 1, 2003 At the beginning of Raw Bischoff asked Coach what kind of match he wanted tonight. Coach responded with a "government mule" match, or something, which got nothing from the crowd. But that's not the point. My point is why would Coach want any match like that at all? JR's old, out of shape, and barely able to move. Coach should logicly be able to be him easily. I know, logic and WWE rarely cross paths, but still. By making it a strap match or whatever Coach actually made it easier for JR to win. In fact, that's how he did win. So couldn't that have been better written by the WWE staff? On a side note, did anybody else notice the irony (stupidity) that the WWE wanted the fans to cheer for a southern white guy whipping the bare back of a black man. Like I was watching a bad version of Roots.
Guest JMA Report post Posted October 1, 2003 I was more upset that Ross CHEATED right in front of the ref and he wasn't DQed. He should've lost right then. And why didn't Bischoff just reverse the decision? Austin was suspended in power for the night. Bisch has reversed decisions before, why not now? And WHY do they have to keep embarassing him? Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 Hopefully this whole thing is over with. King and JR are bad. But two heel commentators (who aren't even any good) are just worse. Plus the whole Coach getting less then zero pop didn't help things.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 I just figured the point was he wanted to mock one of JR's stupid ass catchphrases. What bugged me about the match was what happened after the match. By what happened there, people who buy a ticket now have the right to get in the ring if they feel like it. That was the first time I ever remember a guy just showing up with the ticket gimmick and immediately hopping over the rail. Usually they at least sit in the front row until something important happens.

Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 I loved Austin getting in the ring with "I got me a ticket."...what was to keep everyone else from going "so that's all you need to get in the ring?"

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 It's the NWO clause, of course. [controversial_statement]The whip match was only there so JR could whip away at a shirtless black man as crowd spectacle.[/controversial_statement] Now chew on THAT. A Happy Medium 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 The sad thing about the match was that Coach was carrying it, I think. He sold that retarded stuner like a man.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 Um, couldn't Coach have done a guest referee match with Bisch, Jericho, or Snow as the guest ref? God, WWE logic does not resemble our Earth logic...
A Happy Medium 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 It would've been nice to see Coach challenge Jim to a sit up contest. But then you would have Austin giving JR a boost from under the ring or something.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 Yeah, let me cheer for a white man named "Good Ole JR" to whip a black man he used to make fun of every night before the black man stood up against him. Book a match where the old white man whips the young black man who was just upset cause the old white man's redneck beer drinking buddy beat him up for no reason other than to beat him up. The more you look at this angle and recent angles...I hate to say this but I think the WWE writing staff of RAW may be the most racist bunch EVER.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 You think maybe it's intentionally made that way? I mean, it's as good an excuse to get Coach into the Teddy Long stable as any.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 I would, if maybe it would explain why King stayed on Booker had a criminal record AFTER the Triple H feud. And if maybe Booker had won the feud against Triple H after they ran the "White people are superior to blacks" angle involved in that feud. This is starting to get worrisome. geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 I actually really enjoyed Coach and Snow on Raw this week. They seemed to finally get into their groove. The idea of two heel announcers was refreshing. I thought it was hilarious when they called Rosey a big pile of shit. I am so sick of two babyface announcers, in King and JR. notJames 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 [Controversial Statement 2] I didn't see the match as any sort of racial attack, seeing as how Coachman is whiter than Carlton and Urkle combined. [/Controversial Statement 2] As for having to choose between an elderly announce team that has lost its talent and an ineffectual heel team that never had it, I'd opt for not watching the show. Which I did.

jester 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 Snow and Coach were also shitting all over La Resistance. I don't think Vince so much believes in "Shades of Grey" so much as he has actually forgotten the concepts of "heel" and "face." BTW, I'd take Coach and Snow over the Lawler/JR/Austin Love Triangle any day.

[/Controversial Statement 2] HEY! Don't be dissin Urkel, boy! *shakes fist in anger* As for the match itself...I really didn't mind it, although the racial issue did cross my mind. I really don't think it was anything intentional though. What bothered me most about the segment was that Austin was allowed to re-enter the ring after buying a ticket. Since when did buying a ticket mean that you could suddenly hop the guardrail???

The idea of two heel announcers was refreshing. I thought it was hilarious when they called Rosey a big pile of shit. I am so sick of two babyface announcers, in King and JR. Like others said, they can't stop bouncing from heel to face. BOO! We hate french people! (1 minute later) BOO! Maven is a retarded name even though i lvoe the kid and trained him in TE and think of him as my son! (minutes later) Damn French! And Coach's JR impression was funny for a week or two, but syaing "Whooped like a goverment mule!" gets annoying even from Coach after the 58th time.
iamsherm 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 The thing that bugged me about the entire feud is the way JR carried himself. In every scene he was involved in, I don't think JR cracked a smile once. Instead, we saw JR with this angry (almost indifferent) look that, to me, just furthered my opinion that he's a crotchety, old, and out of touch announcer. I practically felt sympathetic for Coach. Unlike most, I'm not quick to call for JR and King's termination. They've been very loyal and worked too many years in this company for that. However, from a business point of view, I think it's time to make a permanent change.
Guest thrall585 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 (edited) I don't even know if JR can smile with his balls palsy condition. He might be able to do a Scott Keith smile though. Anyhow JR should be pissed because Coach was making JR look bad by making fun of him. Edited October 1, 2003 by thrall585
iamsherm 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2003 Like others said, they can't stop bouncing from heel to face. I noticed this too. But is it really that surprising? For years, the heel announcer on RAW (well at least Jerry Lawler, I don't remember Heyman) has strayed from the norm and took the babyface position in a couple of scenarios: 1) If a woman is being attacked by a man. 2) If someone is verbally attacking the United States. These are the only 2 situations where I noticed Coach and Al Snow playing a face. I'm positive the line of thinking is if the heel announcer on RAW is disagreeing with you, then you're way out of line. Thus, it's supposed to make the wrestler(s) in question a super heel. Of course, it doesn't always work out this way for one reason or another, but all I'm saying is I can see the WWE's point of view.
