Woman Gets Jail In Assault On Boy, 4

Hot French Fries Smashed in Face

A woman who chased a 4-year-old boy through a McDonald's restaurant in Montgomery County, pinned him in a headlock and screamed obscenities as she smeared his face with hot french fries was sentenced yesterday to four days in jail and ordered to attend anger management and parenting classes.

Milikia Hayes, 18, of Gaithersburg was nearly nine months pregnant with her first child when the incident took place in May. The boy, whom Hayes did not know, accidentally smeared ice cream on her clothing at a McDonald's in Germantown, authorities said. The boy had turned around while he was in line ahead of Hayes, and his ice cream touched her sleeve.

Hayes started screaming at the terrified boy, who ran from her, authorities said. After catching him, Hayes smeared "boiling hot, greasy french fries" on his face, said State's Attorney Douglas F. Gansler.

"The boy was scared to death," Gansler said. "It is incomprehensible to think that an adult would attack a child of any age in such a manner."

Hayes pleaded guilty to second-degree assault, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. A Circuit Court judge sentenced her to 18 months in jail, with all but four days suspended, and ordered her to attend the classes.

Hayes told authorities that she was on her way to a baby shower and was wearing one of her nicest shirts when she stopped at the McDonald's about 5 p.m. May 17.

"Clearly, her own behavior was inappropriate and egregious for any adult, much less someone about to have her own child," Gansler said. "In getting this type of sentence, we hope it will ensure that she's learned a valuable lesson and will help her in raising her own child."

After the assault, the boy's eyes were swollen, Gansler said. Although he suffered no serious physical injuries, "we don't know what kind of emotional and psychological damage he's had," Gansler said.

Hayes's attorney, Charles Lazar, did not return several phone calls seeking comment yesterday.

"We thought it was important to prosecute her for the conduct," Gansler said. "It was also important for the 4-year-old boy to understand that what this defendant did was wrong and that she was punished for it."

I'm more prone to believe that the kid did more than accidentally turn around and smear a little ice cream on her sleeve. And the fries obviously weren't "boiling hot" because he would have been burned.

She was still wrong though. But all things considered....I point and laugh.

Hot French Fries.

At McDonald's?

Lawyer please.

I went to McDonald's Drive-Thru last week, checked my order after I got it in my car, and then saw AFTER I got home that they made my double-quarter pounder a regular quarter pounder...

If the fries are fresh out of the greaser, then they are indeed greasy and hot, but hey it is McDonalds, so the chances of getting warm food is not good.

There was no one there willing to stop this bitch? I'm not surprised, giving societal apathy.

Or maybe there is more to this story than they are saying.

Yes, I find this nation's priorities extremely fucked up. People want to KILL that poor Cubs' fan, when a sports season is not the end of the world, but there was no pileup on someone who harmed a child in full public view?

Granted, she was pregnant with her own innocent little parasite who would have been unfairly harmed in any fray that ensued...

A woman can't even help feed a young child french fries anymore without being crucified

I don't think it's societal apathy -- I could see someone trying to stop this getting sued. I really do.

And the difference between this and the human garbage that threw objects at that Cubs fan is that the drunks won't have anything happen to them...

That was my second thought.

My first thought was that it's an earth-changing experience to get HOT fries at McDonalds! Everytime I go there, the fries are more Stone Cold than Steve Austin.

Actually, yes they can be boiling hot if they were freshly made as they are still covered in the frying oils. If it was during peak hours for eating and assuming that she managed to grab a "fresh" batch of fries, I say it's highly likely he'd received some slight burns from them. Nothing major, but still it would hurt pretty badly for a four year old boy.

Still though, how can you blame a four year old for accidently smearing ice cream on you? It's going to happen. They do it normally. Geez...

Ron Bennington of the Ron & Fez show had the most accurate remark to this story: if this woman did this to a kid from my family, I would still be punching her in the face to this day.

If it was my child I would be typing this while being released on bond after taking the bitch to the back and turning her into a french fry.

Believe it or not if you tell them you want the fries that are cooking in the deep fryer they will give you those fries once they're done. That's what I do

But the kid's 4 years old.

Even if he did it deliberately, he's far too young to truly understand the implications of his act.

And what right did this woman have to lay a finger on him, let alone assault him the way she did, whether he deliberately did this or not?
