Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted February 10, 2004 Kobe is going to play in NYC or Memphis or Texas. This is not like baseball where the players would play for money on dead teams by choice. You forget that Kobe wants to be 'The Man' on a team and shed the image that he needs somebody like Shaq to win. I could see him going to Atlanta easily. He and Jason Terry would make an extremely good back-court.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted February 10, 2004 Kobe is going to play in NYC or Memphis or Texas. This is not like baseball where the players would play for money on dead teams by choice. The hell it's not. How good was Orlando before T-Mac and Grant Hill signed with them? (They were 41-41 the year before; not terrible, but DARRELL ARMSTRONG led the team in scoring, assists, steals and minutes. Not very tempting.) Gilbert Arenas signed with the Wizards. Scottie Pippen signed with Chicago. Stephen Jackson signed with Atlanta, the year after he'd won an NBA title. Lamar Odom signed with Miami.

Thats because Orlando had role players that was capable enough to surround T-Mac (he wanted come home anyway) and Hill and plus they had all that cap space. Mr. S£im Citrus 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2004 ... How good was Orlando before T-Mac and Grant Hill signed with them? (They were 41-41 the year before; not terrible, but DARRELL ARMSTRONG led the team in scoring, assists, steals and minutes. Not very tempting.) Technically, Ron Mercer led the Magic in scoring that season (1148 pts in 68 games for 16.9 ppg versus 1330 in 82 games for 16.2 ppg by Armstrong), but the point is understood. It's really interesting, looking back on that team, how a squad that had Ben Wallace, Corey Maggette, Matt Harpring, Darrell Armstrong and Mike Miller could only win 41 games in the east... Guest Redhawk Report post Posted February 10, 2004 Ron Mercer played for Orlando? Damn, how many teams has he played for? Boston, Indiana, Chicago, San Antonio, Orlando....anyone else? And hasn't he only been in the league for like 5 years or so? He's going to beat Chris Gatling's record in a few years.

Stephen Jackson's agent screw him over and Atlanta was the last resort. Lamar Odom just wanted to leave the Clippers no matter what. I believe Grant Hill joined the Magic from a trade that involved Ben Wallace and others.

Those five were never on the team all at the same time. And for the record, Mercer has played for Boston, Denver, Orlando, Chicago, Indiana and now SA. He's halfway to the record of 12 teams shared by Chucky Brown and Tony Massenburg. Massenburg has played for SA, Charlotte, Boston, Golden State, the Clippers, Toronto, Philadelphia, New Jersey, the Grizzlies twice, Houston, Utah and now Sacramento. I can't be bothered to look for Brown's teams right now. Jim Jackson is with his tenth team (Dallas, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Golden State, Portland, Atlanta, Cleveland, Miami, Sacramento, Houston). I'm guessing he ties or breaks the record. I'll look up some more later. EDIT: spelling Edited February 10, 2004 by alfdogg
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2004 Skills competition: Earl Boykins, Stephon Marbury, Gary Payton, Baron Davis Dunk Contest: Jason Richardson, Ricky Davis, Fred Jones, Chris Andersen That's right, Chris FUCKING Andersen. He can catch alley-oops, big fucking deal. If you're going to do that, why not bring Amare back? He would have made the finals last year had he not missed his second dunk. And no Desmond Mason? That's OK, we saw how Jefferson did last year.
OldSchoolWrestling 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2004 The Oregonian is reporting that Rasheed Wallace was informed that he is being traded to the Atlanta Hawks last night while he was seated front row at Raw. Shortly after being shown on screen and being introduced to the crowd as a Trailblazer, Wallace was summoned to Coach Cheeks's office where he was given the news. 1wrestling.com
lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2004 Couple rumored trades: Corliss Williamson (Det) to Chicago for Marcus Fizer and Kendall Gill Nooooooo, we love Big Nasty. He's like a 6-5 Power Foward but hell he can go off for 25 off the bench any given night and besides do we need any more veterans that don't play on the Pistons. I don't see how Kendall Gill or Marcus Fizer fits on our team.

I don't see how Kendall Gill or Marcus Fizer fits on our team. Fizer and Williamson are basically the same players, both can score Williamson is better on D and Gill had a decent season before he got hurt. Im suprise the Bulls aren't going to trade their Big 3, I know they wasn't going to move Curry(now he's playing well) and Chandler, but Crawford for sure I thought was going to go. Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2004 Here's what my 2004-2005 Clippers would look like C- Chris Kaman G- Kobe Bryant G- Marko Jaric F- Elton Brand F- Corey Maggette Richardson can be dealt for picks or a forward Granted, I am not too knowledgable about Basketball but I'd prefer a center who can block alot of shots and dominate. Any thoughts? Any thoughts on who's gonna go in the draft?
MrRant 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2004 I never heard about Wallace going to Atlanta. Why should people believe these trade rumors? ATLANTA -- The Portland Trail Blazers' problems off the court are well documented, and no one symbolized what was wrong with the franchise more than bad boy Rasheed Wallace. So the Trail Blazers finally did something about it. Portland sent the volatile forward and reserve Wesley Person to the Atlanta Hawks late Monday night for Shareef Abdur-Rahim and two other players. "This trade helps the franchise in many ways," Trail Blazers president Steve Patterson said. "We get a younger core of players and can remain competitive in both the Western Conference and the league. "Another factor in the deal is that we are also acquiring three players of good character." The same probably can't be said of Wallace. He drew the ire of NBA commissioner David Stern this season when he told The Oregonian newspaper that the league's white establishment is exploiting young black athletes to enrich itself. Wallace later issued an apology. Last season, he was suspended by the league for seven games for threatening an official on the loading dock at the Rose Garden Arena after a game. It was the longest suspension ever handed down by the NBA that did not involve physical contact or substance abuse. In the 2000-01 season, Wallace set the NBA record with 41 technical fouls. He is set to earn $17 million in the final year of his contract, and already indicated that he did not want to re-sign with Portland. "What you do in this situation is very clear, you start with a clean slate," Hawks general manager Billy Knight said. "You judge people on the way they are with you. I'm not going to go on what someone else said." Stephen Jackson had 11 of his career-high 30 points during an early fourth-quarter rally for the Hawks, who improved to 8-7 over their past 15 games. They've won three of four, including a victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, another top team from the Western Conference. But Knight still wasn't convinced the team was headed in the right direction. "I didn't think we could continue to do that for the rest of this year," Knight said. "What this does is accelerate the process of rebuilding. This was a deal that gets us financially healthy and makes us a player in the free-agent market." Abdur-Rahim goes to the Trail Blazers along with center Theo Ratliff and little-used point guard Dan Dickau, a first-round pick of the Sacramento Kings in 2002, who was traded to the Hawks on draft day. Ratliff is averaging 8.3 points and 7.2 rebounds, and Dickau is averaging 2.1 points. Abdur-Rahim is owed $28.1 million, and Ratliff gets $21 million over the next two seasons. "I can't explain enough how tough a trade it was for me personally, because of Shareef," Knight said. "He's a class guy and the consummate professional. "It's just unfortunate that he's got the highest salary on this team and he's the best player on the team. In order to do anything, he's the first guy everybody talked about." The contracts for Wallace and Person end after this season, clearing up salary cap room for the Hawks. They are right at the luxury tax threshold. Person makes $7.7 million in the final year of his contract. Person, a guard, averages 6.1 points and 1.9 rebounds. The Blazers acquired him and a conditional 2004 draft pick from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for guard Bonzi Wells earlier this season. Patterson called Monday a "watershed day for the Trail Blazers, because for the last eight years, this team has been associated basically with Rasheed and Bonzi as the face of the franchise, and it indicates we are moving into a new era." The Blazers have won seven of their last eight games and are tied for ninth in the Western Conference with Utah, four games behind Denver for the final playoff spot http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1731427

MrRant 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 TORONTO -- Toronto Raptors guard Jalen Rose has a fractured bone in his left hand and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after surgery, ESPN's David Aldridge reports. Rose had surgery on his broken left hand Tuesday, ending his streak of consecutive NBA games at 286. Rose looked to be in obvious pain, but he stayed in the game and finished with 19 points. Rose, averaging 14.4 points and 4.7 assists this season, hasn't missed a game since Nov. 20, 2000. Only Antawn Jamison's streak of 296 straight games is longer among active players. Rose suffered the injury during the first quarter of the Raptors' 84-81 overtime win Sunday against Golden State when he collided with the Warriors' Clifford Robinson. Acquired from Chicago on Dec. 1, the 6-foot-8 Rose is averaging 14.4 points and 4.7 assists this season. The Raptors played at Phoenix on Tuesday night. David Aldridge is a NBA anyalyst for ESPN. Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted February 11, 2004 Damn, that sucks for Rose and the Raptors. Seems like he's really playing well with them. Anyways, I'm loving the NBA coverage this week and overall, this year that ESPN, ABC and TNT is doing. Getting to see alot of good games.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted February 11, 2004 First off, Steven A. Smith may be the most annoying guy on the planet. His "LOOK HOW LOUD I AM SEE I AM LOUD I AM LOUD LISTEN LISTEN I WILL TALK OVER DAVID ALDRIDGE EVEN IF HE ACTUALLY KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT NOW LOOK LOUD SEE LOUD LOUD" gimmick started wearing thin five minutes into it. Tim Legler tends to get annoying too as he was demanding Greg Popovich give back his coach of the year award after one bad move by Pop. Remember, this is coming from TIM LEGLER. The dead man's Stever Kerr. But yes, I'm actually pleasantly surprised that the pre show, and post show guys are all thats bothering me this year, the commentating has been solid all around IMO. And hell, if the game is on TNT, I'm a happy man, Sir Charles just rambling on about God knows what is good TV.
The Electrifyer 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 I'm pretty impressed with Canada's showing of the NBA too this year. There is no TNT or ESPN here, but Sportsnet is sure picking up the slack by showing almost 3 games a week. TSN however, has a lot of improving to do.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2004 There was an article a couple of days ago in the Philadelphia Inquirer from Smith that made sense. He was talking about how the black coaches get hurt by the players, because they think they have a buddy in the black coack as opposed to the white coach. At that point I believed what he had to say, it made sense and he had some quotes backing it up. But ever since then, hearing just snippets from interviews as opposed to being able to read the full article he has gotten really annonying. And there shall be no dissing of Tim Legler. The man knows how to get some high schooler ass.
