The OaO 2003-2004 NBA Season Thread!

I bet T-Mac is gonna drop 40 points on the Mavs and the Magic will still lose. Can't Orlando's GM get any better roleplayers then Tyrone Lue and Juwan Howard? I mean is being offered to play with one of the NBA's best every night, that bad of a deal?

McGrady is just as much to blame for the Magic's situation as anyone else is. It was only about padding stats to him after about ten games. He's said that he doesn't want the pressure of being the star, and has even whined about retiring should they have another season like this. If he's not bluffing, then good riddance.

Bleh, just when Portland had climbed up into a tie for the final playoff spot in the West, they go and lose to the damn Knicks, without Allen Houston and Anfernee Hardaway to boot. With 4 games still to come against the Spurs and Lakers this was a loss they couldn't afford, they need to beat up on the East teams they're playing to give themselves as much of a buffer over Denver and Utah as possible.

'Melo just busted up the Sonics for 41 points. I know he thinks that sit-down thing in Detroit will hurt his Rookie of the Year chances, but I hope he's wrong.

Bah.

Here's the *real* ROTY, I don't care what anyone says.

Of course when you play for more than once a month, you should get more consideration.

Sersiously, what was the most games Wade has played in a row?

The ROY votes should go Melo/James(can't go wrong either way here) then Wade.

Wade has played 53 games.

Shaq played a similar amount at this time last year and was still in MVP talks.

LeBron and Carmelo, the ones getting all the publicity, are struggling to make the playoffs, while the Heat have a real shot at getting home court in the first round.

Wade also worked his way from the *fourth* option and is now arguably the star of the team, though you could argue Odom.

People probably get the notion that I dislike Carmelo, which is not the case. He just comes off to me as a streaky player who doesn't seem to make his teammates better. IMO, Andre Miller was the biggest addition to the Nuggets.

LeBron has been most impressive *statistically*, and IS making his teammates better, but I don't think they'll be in the playoffs, not with the way NY and Boston and even Philly are playing right now. That's the only real flaw LeBron has.

Wade won't get it, of course, as he hasn't gotten the hype of those two. But he has my vote.

Maybe because the other two put up more points, rebounds, assit(well lebron does) steals and blocks than Wade and have done it more consistantly.

The only thing Wade has is that he has a better shooting percentage. Hype or no, there are two other rookies putting up better numbers than him.

OK, I'll give you that point.

But if you're going to look at more than stats when you do MVP, then why should that be different when judging the ROTY, especially when they're the #1 guy on their team?

The Nuggets making the playoffs is obviously more significant than the Heat or the Cavs, because the West is way tougher.

And Wade has more talent around him than LeBron has, so you can't say he's totally responsible for a Miami playoff push.

Yeah I gotta think LeBron gets it if you base it on which one has done the most for his team. I have to give a lot of props for Kirk Hinrich too, he has played a lot better than I imagined he would, albeit on a terrible team.

And seriously what will the Bulls do this off-season. They are going to have a top 5 pick again, and already have about 5 lottery players from the last 5 years. Is there anyway they can end this cycle?

I can't see Lebron James as the ROTY simply because that would mean that 2 HIGHSCHOOL players become Rookie-of-the-Year in consective years which would make some executives angry.

Who else would get it? Carmelo is the only other serious consideration, and LeBron has outplayed him.

Goddammit Sacramento. No Miller tomorrow night vs. Mavs either, and WTF Bobby Jackson was supposed to be back 2 weeks ago. UGH. Only 1 game up now for the no. 1 seed.

Kirk Hinrich should get some votes too. I didn't think he would make as a NBA player, he proved me wrong. If Hinrich was on a team that could shoot, he would lead the league in assists. He averages 6.5 assists on a horrible team. Jannero Pargo has been a nice pickup for the Bulls that guy can score, he might stick with the bulls as a backup.

Kings just lost to the Mavs and look like they could lose in the 1st round no matter who they play.

I watched the game, and trying to sift through the shit that was the first 3 quarters, I must say, the 4th quarter play of the Kings kind of gave me hope that they might be turning it around somewhat. Webber found his shot and was actually moving around, and the Kings played defense for the first time in a month. I'd say Houston is pretty much a MUST-WIN for the Kings, but considering they will have Brad Miller back and hopefully Bobby Jackson, they should handle the Rockets. Sunday Night. I wonder if it is a nationally televised game, because I will be in a hotel room, in Los Angeles.

Ok seriously, will the officials allow anyone but the Lakers to win the NBA Title this year? You have the Laker factor plus the Malone/Peyton need a ring factor, and it just adds up.

Seriously watching the Lakers/Rockets tonight; one thing is clear, there is certainly a different set of rules when it comes to arguing/yelling at officials when it comes to the NBA vs. Lakers. I have never seen so much bitching then when the Lakers get called for a foul, they are screaming and cursing, yet never get called for a tech. Phil Jackson gets up off his bench almost after every foul to moan, yet no tech!?! WTF is going on here, seriously, is there a fucking rule book or not? There must be a magic deadline of April 1st every season, if the Lakers are in contention, the magic deadline of April 1st goes into effect where the league decides that the Lakers will get all the help they need from the whistles.

I am not even bothering to cover the personal player bias that the Lakers get, I will wait for some more opinions on this.

oh and on a sidenote: Go away Sheryl Miller.

Well NoCal it doesn't help that they're playing the Rockets. I swear although I know it's just the homerism I have but I swear the Rockets get the fewest calls in the league. Ever since Steve's little faux pas on national TV it seems like the refs are bound and determined to show the Rockets who the boss is on the court. Although I'm pretty sure it won't keep the Rockets out of the playoffs, I'm concerned about how it will affect their series. Minnesota/Sacramento/LA/San Antonio are going to be tough enough without playing against 8 men.

well last week during the Kings/Lakers game Peyton basically told an official to fuck off in his face, yet he didn't get whistled, yet Bibby gets T'd up for saying "Dammit" in frustration.

OMGLOFLROTFLWTFMAO~11!!!1one!1!!1exclamationpoint1

Sorry, had to get that in. :)

On a serious note, Webber's statlines may look good, but he looks like he's walking in quicksand and didn't seem to give two shits about defense, at least not from the parts I watched. The Kings are in deep shit. They need to get it together and hang on to the division, or they may be looking at a first-round exit.

As for my Pacers, I can look ahead a little now that we've wrapped up the No.1 in the East. Provided LA doesn't make the Finals, I honestly think we can take home the trophy. Sac would be tough, obviously, they beat us both games this year...course we didn't have Artest.

But I'm still sticking with SA until they're actually done in the playoffs.
