Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted November 6, 2003 It's become fairly clear with some of the more recent signings that the WWE doesn't scout talent before they sign them. There was the whole Nathan Jones disaster that could've been prevented by popping in one tape of WWA. There was the Ultimo Dragon burial because Vince wasn't familiar with the style he wrestled. And now we have the Kenzo Suzuki signing despite the fact that he's pretty awful as well. Why is it they seem to just sign guys by look alone? Why don't they actually scout guys out before they sign them and then look like morons for having signed a talentless lump to a deal?

They're too damn lazy to fly anywhere and scout these guys personally.....I think the guy who's mostly responsible is JR and his love for hosses. As a matter of fact, he REALLY pushed to sign NAthan Jones. Friggin putz!

Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted November 6, 2003 I mean I can even live with the Jones signing. But when they were disappointed about the Dragon's wrestling style when I mean it's pretty easy to find out about the guy's style. I mean couldn't they have asked Mysterio, Benoit, Jericho or Guerrero who worked with the guy about his inring style?

That's because they make decisions and don't want to make interacting with talent important. All about ego.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 They do have a scouting dept - it just sucks... or at least, the head of talent (JR) and the man in charge (Vince) sucks and they have to fall in line and service the bosses needs.

The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 They don't scout guys well because they feel they don't have to. As far as they're concerned, all they have to do is find a guy with the look. THEN they can train him to wrestle. But when they were disappointed about the Dragon's wrestling style when I mean it's pretty easy to find out about the guy's style. I mean couldn't they have asked Mysterio, Benoit, Jericho or Guerrero who worked with the guy about his inring style? Here's the worst part...VINCE OWNS THE RIGHTS TO PRACTICALLY EVERY SINGLE MATCH ULTIMO HAD IN AMERICA. It's not like he had to ask anyone...or look for any footage...he OWNS IT. The man has a HUGE number of Ultimo's matches LITERALLY right under his nose, but he couldn't even be bothered to watch a single one, apparantly.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Here's who the WWE scouts: -Sons and relatives of former talent -Athletes -Really Big Guys -Former WCW Stars that they think people will care about -Former WWF Stars that they think people will care about If they happen to have actual skill, it's a bonus. If they don't, well, you don't actually have to have skill to wrestle the WWE style..
teke184 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2003 I think we all knew that the McMahons were clueless about the footage they owned whenever someone asked Shane McMahon in 2001 if they could do a Wargames match to blow off the WCW vs. WWF storyline. Shane's response was something like "I've never seen a Wargames match before... can you give me a tape of one?" despite the fact that they friggin' owned both WCW and Jim Crockett's footage libraries. Isn't Ultimo's style now drastically different from when he was out wrestling those you mentioned? I've seen very little of Ultimo in WWE, as I don't watch Smackdown!, but I know the injury he suffered years ago has set some limitations. UYI
Guest Megatron Report post Posted November 6, 2003 Don't they learn the WWE style in OVW before going to Raw or Smackdown? I think they learn old-school southern style there. Maybe that's why all the guys that come from OVW seem to be so plain.
