Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Plus another major change for WWE house shows... - Backstage morale, especially on the Smackdown brand, is very low right now. Many got excited when Paul Heyman was brought back, but now realize that he has no real creative power. Everyone feels that Smackdown now revolves exclusively around Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, and The Undertaker. - Many have some resentment towards Randy Orton backstage on the RAW side. The feeling is that unlike John Cena, Orton has not earned his push and is instead getting by simply because he is Triple H's "protege." Everyone feels that Triple H is grooming Orton just so that he can feud with him next year. - The plan right now is to have John Heidenreich's "Little Johnny" be a doll, not an imaginary person. - WWE is testing out not having intermissions at house shows to further speed the shows up and make it seem like a TV taping. They have already started playing more angles and such at the shows to, again, make it seem more exciting and like a TV taping. The question is whether removing intermission will hurt merchandise sales. Credit: Wrestling Observer Newsletter I agree with Orton's push, the kid has no heat at all and he's still very green in the ring while Cena is great on the mike ,he is entertaining to watch in a wrestling match and he gets pops which is why he earned his push.

I said the same thing when he returned - you can polish a turd all you want... - The plan right now is to have John Heidenreich's "Little Johnny" be a doll, not an imaginary person. *sigh* not highly original, is it? At least if the gimmick fails he'll be off my TV.
Fökai Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 I agree with Orton's push, the kid has no heat at all and he's still very green in the ring while Cena is great on the mike ,he is entertaining to watch in a wrestling match and he gets pops which is why he earned his push. When was the last time Orton was granted time to develop his OWN character? Orton has no heat, simply because he hasn't been able to capitalize on his gimmick - he comes across as more of a Evolution lackey than an actual wrestler. John Cena gets weekly promos to set up any feuds the writers have for him - he's designed to draw heat, regardless of the outcome of his matches. Both Orton and Cena are still very green in the ring - but once again, Cena benefits from working with Angle, Benoit, Guerrero and Lesnar on the Smackdown brand. Orton? Uhh.....Maven?
haVoc Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 The plan right now is to have John Heidenreich's "Little Johnny" be a doll, not an imaginary person. How many times has this gimmick been done? Mine, Moppy, Pepe'(sp?)

Vyce Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Everyone feels that Smackdown now revolves exclusively around Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, and The Undertaker. Because it does. When was the last time Orton was granted time to develop his OWN character? The RNN skits. Which, hey, ended when he became Trips lackey. Those, I think, were maybe their best shot to get the kid over, but since then he's done NOTHING near worthy enough to justify his push / position. The plan right now is to have John Heidenreich's "Little Johnny" be a doll, not an imaginary person. As generally apathetic as I am towards Heidenreich, even I don't wish this suffering upon the man. WWE Writer: Hey, John, great news! We're promoting you from OVW to RAW!!! Heidenreich: That's great! Well, what's my gimmick? Am I a face, a heel.... WWE Writer: Even better! You see, we've got this great idea for a guy who's best friend is a doll...... I mean, c'mon. Spare me this "everyone's dream is to be with the WWE" bullshit - you KNOW that if you were to make it to the WWE, your ass would be sorely disappointed if you found out that to make it on TV you had to be stuck with THIS gimmick.

I'm with a lot of the Orton hate on this board, but I have to agree with you here. If you took Randy Orton out of that spot and dropped in just about any other rookie, would there really be much difference? When Orton was doing the RNN updates he at least had a personality--a guy with a drastically inflated sense of importance, which was drawing some reaction. There were for more people on this board that liked Orton then.

How many times has this gimmick been done? Mine, Moppy, Pepe'(sp?) Don't forget about Rocco the doll from the Legion of Doom days... *shudder*
razazteca Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 At least Cena can sell sportz drinkz where is Orton's commercials? Where are Orton's road trip segments on Confidential? What? Orton does not live the rich life of the elite like a wanna-be Horseman should? Where is the WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO limo drivin, private plane flyin, Space Mountain livin superstar? Orton is just BORING. At least the Cena character makes apperances at hot spots like HOT 97 and Japan. Orton's character is as boring as his promo's and his ring work, he is not ready for anything other getting the usual X-Pac heat of just get the FUCK OFF off the tv and NEVER RETURN EVER AGAIN.
Vyce Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Cena just has tons more charisma than Orton does. Which is not to say that it would be impossible for Orton to get over....... ......just not nearly as easy as it has been / would be for Cena.
razazteca Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Cena has improved over the past year, Orton really has not done much other then do the nervous pause during his "Legend Killer" promo's. WHAT? Orton needs to learn how change his tone of voice when challenging Legends. Right now the monotone cocky boring voice does nothing but get yawns. I'm not saying turn into the Jericho or Christian have a crybaby fit but do something different damn it. Hell Psycho Sid has better stage pressense than Randy at this point.

Christ with this and the other backstage report of him being accused of sycophantry until he gets the belt I have to wonder if the guy can ever catch a break. What the fuck has he done wrong? There's no reports of him being an asshole backstage, unlike RVD, but his being respectful and wanting to learn is construed as an act that will be dropped when he gets his title. They need to either get him out of Evolution or make him it's leader, like the Rock did with the NoD. Give him the ball and see if he can run with it, and no they haven't given him the ball yet, despite all the bitching about his 'push'.

This is new to me but anyway let's face the facts, giving Orton an old angle(Rock and NOD) won't make him into a star from one day to the other, the guy doesn't have what it takes to be pushed as a main eventer, he's boring and his in ring skills are non-existent. Because WWE says he is going to be the next big thing it doesn't mean i'm going to start treating him as one, in my eyes he hasn't done anything worthwhile.
haVoc Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 This is like dumb Vs dumber, but I been more impressed with Batista's in ring work and promo's then Orton. Not saying much, but still.
Guest Choken One Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Batistia isn't too shabby on the mic and his presence makes up for his montone ring work. Still think WWE blew it with not putting Batista/Goldberg at Series. HHH doesn't have any need to comeback yet and you could have made Batistia look better...and goldberg as well.
Nevermortal Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Batistia isn't too shabby on the mic and his presence makes up for his montone ring work. Still think WWE blew it with not putting Batista/Goldberg at Series. HHH doesn't have any need to comeback yet and you could have made Batistia look better...and goldberg as well. Nobody would buy Batista v. Goldberg as the main event. But then again, Vince-Taker is probably going on last so it doesn't matter.
Guest Choken One Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 It isn't the Main event...It's not even #4 on the line up Team Lesnar/Angle, Team Austin/Bisch, UT/Vince and Shane/Kane are the main events... So there it wouldn't hurt for WWE to do something different and put a "fresh" face in a world Title match instead of HHH.
Highland Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 I've seen worse than Orton on Raw, and I won't start hating him just because everyone else wants to jump on the 'I Hate Orton just because the rest of the IWC does too.' bandwagon.
Guest Choken One Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 If they Want to push a Hoss or a "Blue Chipper" then push one that has some charisma or something. Sean O Haire might not be good in the ring but either is Orton. At least SOH has a completely different look and has a little charisma...
iamsherm Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 You know who Randy Orton reminds me of? Mike Sanders. Why did that guy get high marks from the internet community, yet Orton can't seem to catch a break?
The Czech Republic Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Because Sanders had a pony.
Guest Choken One Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Sanders could work the Mic...He was pretty much the only worthwhile thing with the whole NBT angle. His mic work put him on a even scale with the big names...
Lord of The Curry Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Let's not go nuts, Sanders was a good mic worker but to put him up there with the "big names" is a tad silly. I don't ever recall Orton cutting promo's of the calibre of Austin, Rock, Foley or Flair.
Guest Choken One Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 I meant At the time...Sanders was keeping his place with the big names of WCW... I wasn't calling Sanders a mic legend.
Anakin Flair Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 - The plan right now is to have John Heidenreich's "Little Johnny" be a doll, not an imaginary person. Maybe they're tipping their hat to the LOD and Rocco? Or, maybe they couldn't think of anything. I'll go with the second option
Lord of The Curry Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Sanders was midcard at best in WCW. Just because you're associated w/ Kevin Nash doesn't automatically make you a "big name."
Guest Choken One Posted November 9, 2003 Report Posted November 9, 2003 Once again, His Mic work was putting him with the best of the rest of place...I didn't say he was ranking with Nash or Flair or whoever worthwhile WCW still had back then...His mic work made him stand out from the O Haires and Kidmans. Mid-card? He was the Commish for a while...sure he performed on the mid-card but he got a lot of air time.
