haVoc 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2003 Former WWF champion turned best-selling author Mick Foley is in negotiations with CBS to develop and star in an action series where Foley would play a Tampa Bay Police detective. The plan is for the series, should it be picked up by CBS, to be a one hour episodic series. Foley would work with scriptwriter Teddy Tenebaum to develop the series, which would be part of the WWE's film division as WWE Films president Joel Simon as well as Vince and Linda McMahon are attached in the production end. There will be an announcement about the project coming out this week in entertainment trade publication Variety. Foley is in negotiations to return to the ring for WWE at Wrestlemania XX, possibly against Triple H. He most recently released fictional novel Tietam Brown and has several other books forthcoming. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2003 OK -- I have to ask the obvious questions: Will he say "Have a nice day" in every episode? Will Mr. Socko be his wise-cracking sidekick? Will Mick do his own stunts? And how long with this series last if it survives the Pilot episode?...
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2003 ::scratches head and leaves:: But, seriously, I can't picture Foley in one of these shows... and I seriously liked Austin's role as Jake Cage on Nash Bridges. Sure it wasn't much of a departure, but it lent itself surprisingly well..
haVoc 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2003 Man, Foley could have been the Al Bundy of this era. They have to do a serious cop drama?
Mole 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2003 It might be like 10-8. I haven't seen the show, but doesn't it have some humor in it?
Guest Fook Report post Posted December 1, 2003 I just can't see Foley chasing after baddies (especially in his current shape) and exchanging in thrilling shootouts with evildoers.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2003 Mick will investigate drug abuse in the gyms of Tampa? Will Mick Foley refuse to carry a gun but still go BANG BANG when fighting the bad guys?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 1, 2003 Nothing says it's a serious cop drama. It's a action series where he plays a cop. I mean come on, do you really think they'd have Foley in a totally serious role? Can't wait to see who his "wacky neighbor" is. Maybe Vince will be his boss and every episode he'll scream Foley's character name and slam his door.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2003 I'll watch just cause it involves Foley.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2003 There's no way they'd give Mick Foley a totally serious role. It'll probably end up an action-comedy or something. I'll give it a shot.

Before the WWF, his specialty was those really cutting edge serious promos. Maybe he could pull it off.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2003 Well, yeah. But we're talking about current Mick Foley, who has said that he's a lot prouder of the comedy bits he did as commish than his serious promos like the ECW anti-hardcore stuff. I'm not doubting that he could do it, I'm just questioning whether he'd want to.

No, nothing but wrestling for these uneducated morons. I am sick of abortions such as Mick Foley's books, or the Rock's movie career, or Jesse Ventura in politics. Keep these lunkheads where they belong, in the ring! In case you can't tell, I was being sarcastic.

Guest Choken One Report post Posted December 1, 2003 I never in a million years thought CBS would offer Mick Foley a Hour Long Cop Show. Austin sure...Foley? No way. You think Austin regrets not doing the Jake Cage Spin off?

Guest Skironox Report post Posted December 1, 2003 I don't quite know what to make of this... On one hand, Foley could cut some of the best promos in wrestling ever, so I know he could be entertaining in whatever role he has. On the other, I have this dreadful feeling that he's going to be doing about 20 "BANG BANG!" jokes per episode...
Tony149 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2003 You think Austin regrets not doing the Jake Cage Spin off? Austin always claimed he was too busy with the WWF to do his own series, but I think he probably wonders what could of been. Plus he was on the verge of going under the knife -- if this is 1999 we're talking about. As for Foley, I could of seen a movie based on his life, book, whatever; not a cop show. I would give it a shot though.
WrestlingDeacon 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2003 Apparently you guys don't watch a lot of the classic seventies cop shows, like Baretta, Columbo, Kojack, McCloud, Cannon, etc. Foley has the perfect personality for that type of character. Basically, where the lead has some sort of gimmick that makes the bad guys under estimate him.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2003 I can't imagine this thing will ever make it past pilot. Which is not to say that should it ever make it to a regular season I wouldn't watch it - I would watch every goddamn episode and tape them for posterity. In theory, though, this COULD work - he's going to be playing a detective, which means it'll likely be more of him investigating crime scenes rather than chasing baddies (knowing Hollywood, they'll pair him up with either a) a hot young twentysomething police babe or b) a wise-cracking black guy to do all the action work for him). As long as they approach it with a sense of humor, than it could work.....maybe. They WOULD have something of a built in audience - and if they have frequent guest appearances by WWE stars..... My theory: the show gets developed, but if it makes it past pilot to regular production it gets shipped off to one of CBS / Viacom's smaller networks, i.e. UPN. Guest JMA Report post Posted December 2, 2003 I really, REALLY wish the WWE would stop trying to do this film bullshit. Is Vince that much of a mainstream whore?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 2, 2003 I agree that this show needs to be tongue in cheek and on the verge of being cheesy without crossing that line.
The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2003 I'm curious to see where this goes, but I just can't see this fitting in with the geriatric network, CBS.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 2, 2003 CBS moved away from being the geriatric network awhile ago. In fact, 60 Minutes is the only remaining evidence of it's Geriatric past. The PAX Network now holds the title of The Geriatric Network. PAX even has most of the shows from CBS' Geriatric era.
