NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Wow, those Michelle Branch pics are hot. I sincerely hope she wanted to do those photos, and wasn't just pressured by her label to do it in order to boos attention. It just doesn't seem like her to do it. Oh and as far as the Grammys go. Just as Shitty as I have always remembered them. Across the board.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Yeah, Voltron is about right. Punk died as soon as punk was "cool". Then it wasn't punk anymore - it was cool. I've heard some people point to the day the Clash signed with CBS records, or something... Fuck that, punks still not dead. Entire cities had punk explosions long after the Clash signed with a major label. Do you really think that the whole West Coast scene wasn't punk rock (Flipper, DKs, Black Flag, Circle Jerks,et al)? Or DC (Bad Brains, Teen Idles, GI)? Hell, The Exploited are still touring, and they're as punk as anyone. And even though Rancid is wicked radio friendly, they're still punk. And there are tons of bands in every city in America that are still full-on punk. And as someone who spent most of his formulative years as a punk, trust me, it was never cool. starvenger 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Michelle Branch is pop Pink is just happy to be nominated? Avil is pop-punk Bonnie is out of place but acceptable Lucinda Williams is a piano player right? Bonnie Raitt is closer to rock than any of the other four. Avril is what I'd call Grrrl Pop. Basically it'd be bubblegum pop but they used guitars and drums instead of synths and drum machines...
Ripper 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Best Female Rock Vocal Performance (For a solo vocal performance. Singles or Tracks only.) Michelle Branch Avril Lavigne Pink Bonnie Raitt Lucinda Williams Something about this catagory is just not right. I fully agree. I see a bunch of pop-rock and pure pop artists on that list. And Lucinda Williams? I thought she was blues or something. Then again, try thinking of who should've been in that list instead... I can think of Tori Amos... and umm.... Tori Amos? Michelle Branch is pop Pink is just happy to be nominated? Avil is pop-punk Bonnie is out of place but acceptable Lucinda Williams is a piano player right? All of them do have acoustic rock songs and I do believe that is what they are nominated for. Acoustic Rock doesn't count anymore?
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Acoustic rock is good and all but when has Pink ever done that? Every song I have heard from her has been pop-rock or light hip hop. Ah well, a few years ago at the American Music Awards, the nominees for Best Rock Artist were Will Smith, Backstreet Boys, and some other non-rocker... Guest mesepher Report post Posted December 5, 2003 best rock instrumental is solid again this year (with except to Linkin Park, obviously) I mean, whats so bad about Vai, ABB, Jeff Beck and Robert Randoplh and the Family Band? nothing. solid list.

razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 I think the rock female catagory should be expanded to groups so that Kelly Osbourne, Amy Lee, Gwynn of No Doubt, the Donnas could be nominated. And where is Sheryl Crow? When I think of pop-rock of year I do not think of the women who were nominated. When I think of Pink I think of dance songs not rock, when I think of Bonnie Raitt I do think of rock but don't recall of anything she did this year, Michelle and Avil are pop princesses, I really don't know who Lucinda is. Ripper 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Music is so ridiculously over catagorized now it is ridiculous. Would someone PLEASE explain to me how Michelle Branch, who plays acoustic rock, is not a rock artist. Like it or not, Avril is a rock vocalist. So is Pink(well...some of her songs. her album goes all over the place really...in a good way). Who the hell is rock if people that play ROCK riffs on traditional ROCK instruments being aren't. Since when is the level of complication in the music equated what genre it is. LL Cool J and Nelly rhyme like doctor suess, but dammitt, its still hip-hop. Christina Agularia and Ashanti are STILL R&B like it or not, and those girls are Rock vocalist. Accept it.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2003 Warren Zevon does 30 years of great music...and now he's dead so they throw a ton of nominations at him. "The Wind" is a good album but not one of his 5 best. Fuck the Grammys.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 6, 2003 I agree about the people bitching about the female rock nominees. Just because it's not what you personally consider to be rock, that doesn't mean it can't be consider rock. Could the nominees be better? Well of course, after all it is the grammies, there's always room for improvement. Bonnie Raitt has been considered rock for awhile now. Michelle Branch isn't much different than Bonnie Raitt. Pink has alot of poppy dance music, but to say there's nothing rock about her is wrong. Avril, well ok I agree she's pushing it, but she's still a form of rock. Lucinda Williams is a blues artist, so guess what she's rock. Pink and Avril are the only debatable ones. I have no problem with Pink being there, but I would've perferred if someone else got Avril's spot. Also, how can you not like OutKast. Well, unless you have the silly mindset that you can only like one genre.
The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Lucinda Williams is a blues artist, so guess what she's rock. That's strange, and somewhat nonsensical. I mean, if blues and rock were the same thing, there'd be no need for two different genre names, now would there?
Ed Wood Caulfield 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 50 Cent does not deserve to be nominated for a Grammy. Didn't Ja Rule release an album this year or last year? If so, I'm suprised he wasn't nominated, but not upset either. Of course, I'm glad Avril Lavigne got nominated, but you should not be suprised. I wish Public Enemy would get nominated for a Grammy, but Audioslave, Outkast, Avril, Black Eyed Peas and Eminem, got nominated, so I'm not totally pissed off. And I like Linkin Park, Black Eyed Peas, and Missy Elliot so I'm fine with them getting nominated also. And how could you NOT like Outkast?

Red Baron 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2003 you know what. That metal album category is missing one thing. Its called the lack of Iron Maiden, because Dance of Death was probably one of the most solid metal albums of 2003.
ant_7000 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2003 Black Eye Peas shouldn't get a nod, but its probably off the strength of "Where's the Love" which was aight. Jay-Z's Blueprint 2 shouldn't nominated neither. Hopefully, my boys Kast wins the rap album category.

The nomination was not for their entire body of music either. It was for their performances in those particular songs which were, like it or not, rock songs. And I have hear Eminem songs playing on rock stations so lets not say what radio stations play is what determines the genre of music.
