Bryan Singer In Talks To Direct X-Men 3

Recommended Posts

Since when has Gambit been a "tough guy"? He's a thief with a heart of gold. Well, until the whole retcon of him working for Sinister. Anyways, he doesn't work without a female to simultaneously charm/annoy, and since they're going with a Rogue/Iceman pairing, you'd need to keep Storm.

you could just have gambit with one of the other women like jubilee or shadowcat

ehh...I could do without Jubilee in a major role.

Although I wouldn't mind an Iceman/Gambit/Rogue triangle.

How many of these can they do? I imagine they can keep going on and on and doing well, so many charcters and stories they can use...but how long can they get the main characters to come back?

I hate it when people get caught feeling silly but cry back with "OMG~! I was being SARCASTIC!"

And for the record, just because I had 6000 posts when you read it, doesn't mean that this was the post I "wasted" it in. I posted a few more times after this.

:P

Dames

I got "caught feeling silly"? Please.

I've forgotten more about comic books then you know, and I certainly knew Singer directed X-Men if I knew he did Apt Pupil. And even if I didn't know till now IT SAYS IT IN THE FIRST POST. Don't blame me when it was painfully obvious I was being sarcastic, and you're just slow.

But you really caught me there, Dames.

Really.

Nice one.

(Note For Dames: Those last lines are again, sarcasm.)

The guy who's playing Cyclops is fine. The person writing Cyclops' roles in the first two movies, however, is not.

If all they are going to do is make Cyke out to be a lil bitch just Mr. Overrated can knock him at every turn, then I don't want to see X3, even if they DO use the Phoenix storyline for it.

I'd like to see Rogue promoted to the X-men group, and we can see Jubilee be the new, young lady of the group.

Actually, if you look at the scene in the White House at the end of X2, both Rogue and Iceman have there uniforms, which I would take to mean they were promoted. Also, in the deleted scenes on the DVD, they have a scene with Jubilee where it expands a little on her character (not much, but a little glimpse of her powers).

And Archangel/Angel was supposed to make it in to the movie, but the producers felt that it would be to many special effects-driven characters in one movie. So maybe next time.

Also, if you noticed, Hank McCoy made it in- he was being interviewed on a talk show in the background.

Shadowcat is to young- she's only like 14 in the movie. Better to go with Jubilee, or the new Storm, when she's recast.

I agree...now if they only use Beast in the next one

Well, they still could. Remember that originally Beast only had oversized hands and feet and increased agility, and no blue (or grey) fur - that happened later in his solo adventures.

Colossus might make a return as well, but perhaps the time is right for Storm to leave and for us to see the debut of... Dazzler!!!

OK, maybe not...

I would totally mark out for Dazzler!

Yeah, didn't you love Colossus in X2? Why couldn't Wolverine have allowed him to help with the intruders! That would have been so awesome to see Wolverine and Colossus in action together on the big screen, and would have totally made up for my anger over the first X-Men film.

ComingSoon.net spoke with "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" star Ian McKellen about possibly reprising his Magneto role once again in X-Men 3...

"Ask me this time tomorrow when I would've spent the day with Bryan Singer and one of the writers who is coming to the premiere. I'm told by both of them that they hope there's going to be a third movie, they both hope to be involved and they both hope that Magneto would be a part, but they don't quite get around to saying I'll be playing Magneto. It could be the young Magneto they could be writing. Who knows. I think Lauren Shuler Donner has announced that there is going to be an X-Men 3 and there's going to be a spinoff, a Wolverine spinoff, and that Hugh Jackman is contracted to do both."

Wolverine's the most marketable and popular character. There shouldn't be an X3 without him... however, since there will be a wolverine solo movie, you can reduce his role. In other words, give him about the same amount of plot/screen time that Halle Berry had in X2, and let him have some cool Wolverine badass moments to satisfy the masses, but he doesn't need a direct connection to the plot like he did in X1 and 2... just enough of a presence to give people their fix and tease the solo flick.

More details on the next X-Sequel

After the huge success of the first two X-Men movies, obviously there has been a lot of rumor and news about the next in the series. Here are some interview highlights from Richard Donner, who recently talked about X3:

He is also working on a Wolverine movie separately from X3, which would come out after X3

Ideally he’d like the movie to be out in Summer 2005

He confirms that the Dark Phoenix saga will be at least one of the storylines in the movie

On whether some of the top stars will be back for the third movie:

I can't imagine doing it without him or Patrick [stewart] or any of the main cast...and Halle [berry]. We have to make sure that she's used well and we have a great great storyline for her, or maybe we do a Storm movie...who knows.

The Wolverine thing is three pronged:

1.) Hugh Jackman just owns the role and has tons of presence. Far more then any of the other fighting X-Men (Famke, Masden, Berry, Paquin, Cumming, or Iceman and Pyro). The only other actors who are as good as he is are McKellen and Stewart. He may get more to work with, but he amkes the most of it as well and it's tough to argue with the two great performances he's given.

2.) Wolverine's has character has a built in storyline that's already awesome. So the writers just centered around the "who is Wolvie really?" angle.

3.) Wolvie (and to a lesser degree, the villians) sells tickets and comics. None of the other X-men approach his popularity, and Wolvie alone is nearly as popular as the X-Men together. Also, he doesn't NEED the X-Men to work as a character (like Cyclops does) in part, because he debuted as a character before his appearance in the X-Men of the comics.

All I desire from X3 is someone to pick up Grant Morrison's run, look at Emma's costume via Frank Quitely, and decide, "Yes, we need someone to write Emma into this." Va-va-voom.

Like everyone else says, Hugh, Patrick, and Ian are the only real unsackable characters. Although NIghtcrawler is bad ass. There are so many other characters they can use that they don't need all the originals.

Jean is dead so if she doesn't want to do part three, they don't need her. They can easily hold that storyline off for a little while.

Wolverine not in X3 means you won't have an X4, period. Wolverine and Msytique are easily the two most popular characters in the film series and without them you are wasting your time. And Magneto is the man, you need an actor of the strength of Ian and you also need Prof X without question.

James isn't going to ask for much I would think since he's not really being offered many roles outside of this. He needs X-men more than they need him. Same goes for most of the young kids at the moment who did mostly TV roles before this franchise.

Halle is gone, just move on without her or replace her. It'll hurt the franchise some but she will ask for too much.

Anna Paquin seems to enjoy doing the films and she is mostly an indy film girl so I doubt her price tag would be elevated much, if she is even up for a new contract.

You need Singer, Jackman, Stamos (her facial expressions rule), Ian, Stewart and Paquin back. James, like I said, probably won't be a problem and Ian seems to enjoy the franchise as long as the script is solid. Same goes for Stewart as it allows him to do mostly plays and tv movies

The only big money is Jackman but if Ian is right, he's signed for this and WOLVERINE. Berry is just....well, let her star start to fall and ask her back for 4 with Famke.

I'd like to see some kind of storyline tying in the dark phoenix with the hellfire club. How cool would it be for there to be a love triange with emma, scott, and dark jean. You could have the hellfire club be like those annoying brats in "Cruel Intentions", (annoyingly rich and pompous rich 19-25 year olds with powers) give the Cyclops character some more script, keep iceman and pyro in the pic somehow, and still have the "adults" duking it out.
