Ben Affleck Not Interested In Daredevil 2

Posted By Ashish on 12.09.03

Will the movie go on without him?

While Fox has already announced Daredevil 2 as well as the Elektra spin-off, Ben Affleck says he has no intentions of returning for a sequel.

"That may be too much work for me. I don't have any idea. I suppose that if Kevin Smith wrote it and was going to be involved, I would do it. But I'm not banging down the door trying to get 'Daredevil 2' made. You'll know when my career is really on the slide when I start resurrecting the franchise."

Affleck did say that he would make a cameo in Elektra if asked.

YESSSSSSSSS THANK GOD

As much as I liked the film. Baffleck was totally wrong for the role. Personally, I'd stick Neal McDonough or Matthew Settle in there, both are accustomed to playing loonies

Just as a sidenote, Jon Favreau better come back as Foggy.

I'm torn in half about Ellen Pompeo. Maybe if they gave her something to do this time around........

No, I loved the actual movie, but the acting on Affleck's part was just horrendous

Thats what you get co-starring with Colin Farrell and Jennifer Graner though, youre just gonna be upstaged

I see Kevin Smith directing and Affleck coming back. Just a hunch.

I'd lay money on that, too.

The main problem I had with the first one was that Johnston was trying to cram way too much stuff in too short a time.

I have no beef with Affleck as Matt Murdoch/DD. As long as Kevin Smith is directing this time. He and Ben work well together, IMO.

Oh, and I also liked DD.

Heh, I thought I was the only one who actually liked Daredevil and bought it the day it was released. Not only that, but I'll probably buy the Director's Cut the day it's released.

That's fantastic, cause we're not interested in him in DD2 either.

Nah, Zack, you're not the only one. I loved the movie and I bought it the day it was released.

Go on, hate.

Dames

We actually just got done watching it at Contempo's (my coffee shop hangout for those not in the know). I'm running movie nights there once or twice a week and Daredevil was tonight's pick. The owner, who had never seen it and isn't someone you'd expect to like it, absolutely loved it.

I've also owned it since the day it came out. I'm a DD mark from reading the comics as well, so that helps.

I liked it as well, and bought it the day it was released. got a deal where I got the original Batman: The Movie starring Adam West for free. And I'll buy the Directors Cut, because I hear it makes it a more complete movie.

As for Afleck, it would seem a little strange, but I could deal with somebody else under the mask.

I liked the first movie and I liked Affleck as Daredevil. I can't believe his ego is so out of whack that he thinks he's above doing a sequel though. Daredevil made 100 million at the box office, while his other venture this year (Gigli) wasn't even seen by 100 people.

And that new John Woo film doesn't look like a hit to me either.

You think the studio will REALLY throw something as valuable as DareDevil in Kevin Smith's direction? I mean, that's a $100 million+ movie, and he can't draw past $30 million. And his aborted Batman script doesn't count.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Smith fan, but I don't really see it happening. And even if it does, Jay & Bob will probably show up and we'll get long, drawn out conversations about how bad DD kicked some guys ass in lieu of an action scene where we actually see it.

But how long before the studio takes a chance on smith. The guy's movies gross 10-20 mil on a 1-2 million dollar budget and make a killing in dvd sales. How long before someone sees what he can do with a big budget picture.

I personally don't believe he can make a big budget picture. You could give the guy 300 million and I still think he would only use 600,000. But eventually the studios are going to want and see if that profit that he makes can be translated into the big time. ANd why not with a picture like Daredevil, which to be honest probably wouldn't draw in that many viewers anyway.

But didn't Dogma and J&SBSB only gross $30 million each, while costing $10 and $20 million respectively? Those figures improve when you factor in DVD/video sales, but then so do all grosses. Still, I sure as hell wouldn't gamble a $100 million+ franchise on a guy whose returns are so low.
