Something about a blood code on Mortal Kombat 1 on SNES (w/o the game genie).

And something about getting a double flawless/fatality on Reptile unlocked another character.

Are those true?

This was true. If you could get into the pit, and beat Reptile with a double flawless, and finish him, the next fight would be against a copy of your character, except he would be covered with some green shit. He was impossible to beat, because he was like 10x faster then you.

I got him ONCE, and never again could I beat Reptile.

That is not true, but it is possible to see a character covered in green stuff.

In MK1 for Genesis if you get to Reptile on an Endurance match his partner will be a fucked up green character. It's not really a hidden character, their sprite is just messed up.

Another glitch like that is in the SNES port. If you do Raiden's Fatality in Endurance Match 3 on MK1 for SNES Goro is covered in silver crap when he comes down.

The Minus level is legit because I've both seen someone go to it and gone to it myself.  It's hard to do though and the level never ends so it's pointless.

Well, ho-leee shit, apparently, the Minus Level is both real and NOT pointless... After doing some digging, check out what I found...

Hello,

Well I guess you have done some mighty good detective work there.  There is indeed a second minus world in Super Mario Bros with the Goomba King as the main attraction.

The Goomba King was supposed to be the boss of SMB, didn't you notice that there were more Goombas than koopas? However, the Goomba King was "evil looking" enough so we replaced him with Bowser.

We decided to include the final boss level in the final version of the game as a hidden level.  The Minus World was merely created as a double gateway to this very challenging battle.  The first gateway was getting into the Minus World while the second gateway is getting out of the minus world.  I can tell you right now that there is a 1 in 2002 chance that you will be able to swim through the wall.  That is the reason the level goes into a infinite loop.  I wish you luck in trying to get back in the second Minus World.

Anyone ever hear about being able in FF3/6 to get to the 3 teams v. Kefka "Defend the Esper" fight, and get Gau to do the Hole ability and have Kefka fall in, only to have Kain jump in and save him, and then join you?

I believed it :(

I also believed you could save General Leo if you got the potion and used it at his grave.

I forget how one was supposed to be able to get the potion tho...

What about using a Name Card on a character with all the Imp armor/Weapons and who was currently Imp-ed to create the super Kappa Imp! Or was it Kappah? Could you only do it to Gogo? Or Umaru?

Listen this stuff MATTERED when I was that young...

If anyone remembers the Peacekeepers for the SNES...

It was one of those side-scrolling punching games, like a double dragon kinda thing.

Anyway, one of the characters had a bazooka on his back. Me and my bud were convinced there HAD to be a way to use it, but we never did...

And come to think of it, I'm going to Gamefaqs...

The way I heard it was you had to kill something like 1000 dinosaurs in the Dinosaur forest, then some uber-saurus would appear, and you had to kill that to get the potion.

I attempted it, but quit after like... 30...

Although it's on PC instead of console, the Cow Level in Diablo 1. Something about teleporting out of the dungeon then putting another portal between the two cows out in the field, somehting like that.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Then of course they had to go ahead and make a cow level for 2. Fun level but it gets to be a pain if you run to far and have 50 halberd hefting cows chasing after you.

Any of the "special characters" in NBA JAM that turned out out to be false (Jordan, in particular).

EGM's supposed April Fools joke of all five Bonds (Brosnan, Connery, Dalton, Lazenby and Moore) being playable in Goldeneye.

Little did we know, there was enough evidence to prove that EGM didn't make it up.

Shortly after Sega announced they'd be a 3rd party etc I believe EGM started "Sonic and Tails are in Super Smash Brothers Melee."

At a used game store just yesterday a misguided clerk that I was BSing with was convinced Aeris can be resurrected in the Japanese FFVII--I set him straight though. Although on second thought I should have lied, said I owned the import, and made up details.

Lots of gaming magazines created the myth that Xenosaga is a good game (not even half right).

Saying the Konami Code unlocks this or that is always a good one. It isn't in all their games but usually the older stuff would always have it do something.

I've heard some rumors Zack is playable in FFVII. You can play as Sephiroth and Young Cloud with a Gameshark (Seph is cool in Battle Square), but Zack doesn't even have a model for battles I don't think, so that was an odd one.

FFVI has sooo many rumors about secrets.

Paladin Ring-- you get it when you uncurse the Cursed Ring (false: you get a Hero Ring)

Gamma Sword-- fly around Kefka's Tower until you get into a boss fight and you can win it (false--there's not even a slot for that item).

There's a secret Esper in the game (half-true. This rumor was started because there is one empty slot in the esper screen. However, it's just for selecting none to unequip espers. However, you can turn the Odin Esper into the Raiden Esper.)

You can earn both the Ragnorok Esper and the Ragnarok Sword (false--at least by conventional means. You can steal an Illumina, which you get by trading in the Ragnarok sword at the Colisseum, from Kefka in the final battle I think, but at that point you seriously don't need and can't use it any other places at that point, although it's a devastating throwing weapon for Shadow if you use it right away.

The Kappa thing is true, but it's just something you can do to mess around a little. You can turn a weak character into a strong fighter, but I wouldn't waste the Rename Card for that. Marvel Shoes are better anyway.

There's a secret cutscene that reveals that Gogo is really Daryl! (I've never seen it, but it's been rumored they're the same. However, if it doesn't play into the story at all it's just speculation).

Truth be told, when I first heard the Cursed Shield/Paladin rumor I thought it was bull, but it's very true.

Firstly, to win that "potion" you must battle 65000 (or at least, I sat there and did that) times around where Vector formerly was.

Secondly, the Name card and all the Imp Stuff IS true. Downside to making a character like that is he isn't controlable anymore.

The reason why so many people believe this rumor to be true, is because many people say that the isle that Gogo is found on, is the same as where Daryl died.

...I don't know how anyone comes up with that, but that's what I remember as the reason.

I've tried half a million times to get to the damn Minus world, and have never even come close. I'm halfway convinced it's a practical joke, played by the entire gaming world, on me. That, and that supposed method to get 99 lives by bouncing around a Koopa shell on some steps somewhere.

The way I heard it was you had to kill something like 1000 dinosaurs in the Dinosaur forest, then some uber-saurus would appear, and you had to kill that to get the potion.

This one is double bastard evil, because there is an uber-saurus in the Dinosaur forest; problem is, it's just the Brachiosaur that most people have already heard of, and it doesn't give you any potion when you beat it. (Or should I say IF you beat it? This damn thing was almost FFVI's version of a Weapon.)

What are you talking about? Yeah, you can equip an Imped character with the various Imp gear and have a fighter halfway worth something, but where does the "Kappa thing" come into it?

No such thing. (The nightmares Shadow has are the only thing like this in the game.) Come on guys, in this era of emulated ROMs and do-it-yourself home programming, don't you think that every single major secret would've been found by now?

Firstly, to win that "potion" you must battle 65000 (or at least, I sat there and did that) times around where Vector formerly was.

You actually did that?

The Simon Belmont Code for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Time was my favorite EGM April fool.

A legend around here is that Grand Theft Auto 3 was censored (This was due to the story that the Hooker trick was taken out in Australia, somehow this got morphed to reach over here by word of mouth).

Similarly, a legend here is there is a 7th star in Vice city.

Yeah, but the Brachiosaur can net you Economizers. I forget if you steal or transform him with Ragnarok (or both), but the Economizer lets you cast any spell for 1 MP.

Vanish/Doom worked well on him, I believe.

What are you talking about? Yeah, you can equip an Imped character with the various Imp gear and have a fighter halfway worth something, but where does the "Kappa thing" come into it?

It's the same sprite as Kappa the Imp, and you could pretend it really was a different character. Other than that, it isn't really any different. It was rather useful if you REALLY hated Gau and wanted to pretend he didn't exist.

I know it doesn't exist, but fulfilling the rumored conditions back then, I'm saying I never saw it. At one time, we've probably tried some of these. Umaro and Gogo probably sounded fake when we first heard about them. After that, we were less skeptical.

There were always a few different myths about the Triforce being hidden in Zelda: Ocarina of Time. There were also a bunch of fake pictures online, too.

I want someone to explain how in the blue fuck the Minus 1 Level in the original Super Mario Bros. was actually legit?

If that's the case, then I've spent the last 15 years living a lie.

Jump on Bowser and the axe at the same time but you have to be either fire or big Mario.

You lying beerstard, raza, you're supposed to somehow jump through the wall above the exit pipe near the end of 1-2, which (so I'm told) takes you to a slightly different version of the warp pipe room, and all the pipes take you to -1. At least, that's how I've had it explained to me a zillion times.
