OK -- I'm not a comic book fan.

Explain to me the Venom/Carnage characters...

Spider-Man went to a planet somewhere, and found a new "suit" that he thought had extra powers. It turned out to be an evil alien symbiote dealy that was taking over his body, so he rejected it, and it went to the nearest living thing, that being Eddie Brock, a former reporter who got fired from the Daily Bugle. Brock blamed Spider-Man for all this, so when he and the symbiote (who was angry at Spider-Man for rejecting it) joined together, they became Venom, and he fought with Spider-Man, and eventually lost.

Brock got sent to prison, but the symbiote broke into the place and freed him. Somehow a piece of the symbiote broke off and formed with Cletus Kassidy, a serial killer who had a cell near Brock. That made Carnage, basically an insane serial killer with Venom/Spideys powers.

That's about the gist of it.

Agreed. I'm sure they could re-write history to include Venom, though. Perhaps not the whole Secret Wars involvement, but a living suit that fed on the wearer's adrenaline could be an interesting plot point. Especially since they've already mentioned Brock in the first movie.

I still don't like the ending to Spiderman cause it was a cop out (god, she is still your friend and villians will always go after female friends)

But that was the proper way to end it. That's how their relationship was handled in the comic.

Ending the movie with Peter accepting Mary-Jane's love would've spit on an important part of the comic.

Especially since they've already mentioned Brock in the first movie.

Did they really mention him? I thought that was just a rumor started by hopeful fanboys.

No, he's mentioned for about half a second.

When JJ is looking at the photos Peter brought, he says something like "This is 10 times better then the crap that Eddie photographs!" which is really close to the character, if I recall.

I seem to remember that Peter took over Eddie's job as the photographer, thus why Venom hates Spider-Man so much. Venom knows that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, so he knows that not only did Peter steal his job by taking great pictures of Spider-Man, but he is Spider-Man, so he fucking HATES him.

That might not be the exact right spot in the movie, but JJ DOES mention him.

Oh, and what they *need* to do if they want to get Venom in the movie is to steal the storyline from the FOX cartoon. In fact, I've already thought of what I consider to be a plausible way to work it in...

Now, I've heard that JJ's nephew is supposed to be in this flick. He's also an astronaut. What they should do, is this: At the start of the movie (or nearabouts) have it come out that J's nephew is returning from a space mission which discovered two things: One thing they don't know what it is, and another that seems to be a very powerful radiactive element or something.

In any case, one of the things is the symbiote, and the other is something that Doctor Octopus wants, BAD. There's a million ways they could fix that in - maybe he wants it to complete a new superweapon - it doesn't really matter.

So they go about the rest of the movie, and by the end, Spidey and Doc Oc are battling on or about the landed spacecraft (whether it crashed or landed normally is irrelevant, so long as they get on the ship before anything is removed). During the battle, Oc manages to get Spidey's mask off, but Spidey clouds up Oc's glasses with web so he can't see him.

Spidey runs to hide to find something to protect his identity, as Oc cleans his glasses and comes looking for something.

Now, I've HEARD that the symbiotes are capable of appearing as something that someone needs, in order to ensnare someone. If that's not true, oh well - it's not like they're above changing things. Anyway, Spidey sees the symbiote...in the form of a black mask. With no other real option, he puts it on, and finishes off Doc., the movie progresses as normal.

Then, just before the end, have Spidey realize what he's found - some sort of element (he believes) that can change into a whole outfit for him, and back to regular clothes, making things much more convienent - besides, the symbiote would have some sort of mental hold, preventing him fromjust tosing it away.

The last shot of the movie is Spider-Man swinging around in the Venom outfit.

Then, at the start of the next movie, then can say it's however far (6 months to a year) into the future, and Spider-Man's realized that there's something wrong with this suit, and he needs to ditch it. Neato scene with the church bell, Brock walks by, bada-bing, bada-boom, there's your third movie.

Man, I put too much thought into this....

Oh, and that trailer is BAD ASS. Doc Ock looks SWEET.

But did they mention Eddie BROCK? If they didn't, I'm going to remain skeptical. Besides, in the original comic Eddie didn't work for the Bugle (though he did in the animated series). Speaking of that, I think you're right about stealing the FOX animated origin for Venom (if they use him). Still, I'm more interested in the classic villains.

He may have said "Brock" instead of Eddie...

But in either case, I think that's what they're shooting for, because that was Brock's role in at least some things.

I'm gonna go see if I can find an online script and double-check.

And while I would like to see Venom, I can't say I'd complain if they used guys like Scorpion and the Lizard first.

Indeed. I especially want to see the Lizard. Venom might be cool if they don't screw up the character. Venom isn't your typical "villain." He's a lot like the Punisher. The only beings he truly hates are Spider-Man and Carnage. He's been known to protect other innocents, but show no mercy to criminals.

If you're going to steal a Venom origin, go for the origin from ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN. It's much simpler, involves Peter and Eddie and the suit on a very personal level and just works better for a movie, IMO.

That was fucking awesome! Can't wait to see it.

I guess The Lizard didn't make the cut for this movie though?

I wouldn't say that, yet. Lizard could be a secondary character and not major enough to be in the teaser.

Dr. Octopus looks awesome and he was my biggest concern at least as far as visuals go. Let's hope the script holds up it's end.

Yeah, more Spidey barbs please! My one complaint was that he didn't talk far enough in costume, and the "comedian" Spidey is one of the character's trademarks.

I'm not going to care until Venom is involved, and hopefully Carnage as well.

Venom has a huge backstory to fit in. And before you have Carnage, you have to have Venom. I honestly don't want them brought in. I was a big Venom fan in the nineties, but Marvel overexposed the character. I don't see the character being done justice on the big screen.

They should've introduced the Eddie Brock character in this one then.

The movie would have to be rated 'R' minimum to *really* display the Carnage character in its true form. That would raise all sorts of hell in terms of audience accessibility and piss off alot of people.

I've always been a fan of Mysterio, here's hoping he's the next one.

A new trailer has hit the web (no pun intended) and it's pretty cool. The new trailer has me psyched for Spidey 2. This movie's gonna make some serious bank at the box office.

They should change the name to:

SPIDER-MAN: YOU WILL SHIT YOURSELF.

No, he mentioned Eddie as a photographer. That's about as explicit a reference to the character of Venom as Doc Connors was later to the Lizard.
