Guest JMA Report post Posted December 19, 2003 TAMPA, Fla. – Dec. 15, 2003 – Rene Dupree of La Resistance is celebrating his 20th birthday today. “I feel old, man,” joked Dupree, the youngest man on the roster, who became the youngest Superstar ever to hold a WWE title when he and Sylvain Grenier captured the World Tag Team Championship on June 15. Dupree is in the midst of his rookie year in WWE; he made his debut last April in Boston. Even though he was just a teenager when he debuted, he’s enjoyed quite a successful rookie campaign, riling up crowds with his anti-American sentiments, getting involved in some high-profile rivalries. La Resistance won the Tag Team Championship just two months after debuting, which Dupree said his is top career highlight thus far. But he said the most memorable individual moment of his career was last Monday on RAW, when he and Rob Conway found themselves in the ring with Mick Foley and The Rock. That’s something that even most veterans will never get the opportunity to do. “I beat the crap out of The Rock, French style,” Dupree said with a smirk. “I gave Rock a French-style beating.” Dupree said he hadn’t checked his voicemail today to see if anyone had called to wish him a happy birthday. As far as gifts, Rob Conway got him a new pair of blue wrestling tights, which he wore for the first time last night at Armageddon. “That was actually one of the biggest gifts I’ve ever received,” Dupree said appreciatively. Asked how he felt about having to come to work on his birthday, Dupree said, “It’s better than staying home. I’d be bored if I wasn’t here.” Dupree said he and Conway, and maybe a few other friends, would be going out tonight to celebrate – as much as they could on a Monday night. Guest Frank Grimes Report post Posted December 19, 2003 20? I'm sure there's some I'm forgetting, but have there been any wrestlers who have made it to the WWF/E at such a young age? Even Orton was 22.
deancoles 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 Sean Waltman must have been 19-20 when he first came in.
Guest Frank Grimes Report post Posted December 19, 2003 7/13/72 for Waltman, so he'd have been 21 when he debuted, 2 years older than Dupree.
Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 I'm sure there's some I'm forgetting, but have there been any wrestlers who have made it to the WWF/E at such a young age? I believe Aguila/Essa Rios came to the WWE when he was 19 or so. I remember he was the youngest guy to ever appear on a Wrestlemania or something like that. And good for Rene. His dance has been one of the most entertaining things on Raw lately, IMO.

haVoc 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 They weren't on the roster, but I'd say Matt & Jeff Hardy when they were doing matches on Raw in 94/95.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 Well, at least he could drink in Canada before he got called up to "the Show". And yeah, he's the one that does the dance. He's got potential, at least - I don't see the young big lugs on Raw developing much farther so guys like him and Orton are basically what the WWE will have to build on in the future once the HHH (is it a HHH-MacMahon facgime again?) finally decides to give the spotlight to someone else. justcoz 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 (edited) I'd like to see them split up La Resistance and push both Dupree and Rob Conway as singles. I think both have potential. Conway is being held back in the French sympathizer role. Conway is being held back in the French sympathizer role. What I'd do is take them off TV for awhile and give them a gimmick overhaul. Dump the whole French thing. Cause I don't mind them as a team now that Genair (sp?) is gone. Edited December 19, 2003 by EdwardKnoxII
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 I'd like to see some of these "rookies" gain a natural response from the audience. The "Attitude Era" did have that strong point...it gave us guys and we cheered for them and their success (and the companies success) was b/c of the fans, how it should be. Now it's "That's Matt Morgan! He's mean!" "That animal Batista! Boo him!" "Randy Orton is cocky, that sonofa..." "La Resistance are French, boo them!" Like, personally, I found La Resistance to be cool. Their wrestling isn't great, but they're better than Cade/Jindrak, fresher than Dudleys, better than Test/Steiner, Rosey/Hurricane, etc. They may actually be the best team on RAW. And one of them is 20 years old. My point is, maybe guys like Dupree, etc. would get better responses if ya know, THE PAYING FANS could choice whether to cheer/boo him and that fat scum pig Jim Ross would shut the fuck up. Guest Sylvan Grenier Report post Posted December 20, 2003 Je pense que avec les emissions, si tu es dans l'emission, il est interdit boire l'alcool devant l'appareil. Translation: I think that with the emissions, if you are in the emission, it is prohibited drinking alcohol in front of the apparatus. Therefore, Dupree AND Conway would not drink the true wine. Conway, I still want my partner wha?
justcoz 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2003 I'm curious to know how much truth Mick Foley had in his comments on Conway and Dupree a few Raw's ago. Ditto for his comments on Orton which seemed much more legit although there is an angle involved there. I'm not saying that they are really the next Rock and Stone Cold but it's very possible that five to seven years from now we will be looking back at La Resistance the same way we look back at Rocky Maivia and The Ringmaster. I have a feeling that Conway could be very good on the mic without the French/USA crap. His presence and Grenier's injury actually save La Resistance from being a complete wash out. I see Dupree in an old style Hunter Hearst Helmsley role and they really should start pushing how young he is. And Conway does remind me a bit of The Rock and could probably be a breakout arrogant heel. LISTEN TO PITTSBURGH NET RADIO ON LIVE
