nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 Yeah, Kermit got screwed. It's not like he was trying to end Rudy T's career, he just spun around and threw his punch at the exact perfect time. And it's not like it was an unprovoked attack, it was in the middle of a brawl. Kermit should be the new coach of the Knicks.
Guest AllCanadian Report post Posted January 15, 2004 The best fights are usually never seen by to many people. Junior hockey in Canada is the place to see them the kid's are more than willing to throw down multiple times a game.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 Also, I was watching Off The Record on Friday while Jericho was hosting, and they had some boxer who's name I can't recall. Anyways, while they were talking about the risks people take before stepping into the ring, it showed a clip of him just drilling some guy three times after he was OBVIOUSLY out on his feet and the ref should have stepped in. It was brutal. If anyone else saw that episode, they may be able to give you more insight on which fight that was. It was Razor Ruddock. I didn't see the footage, but it might have been the Michael Dokes fight, which was rather brutal.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2004 I doubt Drapes said "Darren, go beat that fella up for me." I think Darren just got it in his mind he was going to fight Lemieux and everyone already knew it. It's kinda sad that the fighting's left hockey. You're lucky to get one good every other night now, and that's with all of the games combined.

Which of course makes it all the more funny-weird that one of the OHL teams (St. Michael's Majors) bears the name of a Catholic school run by Basilian priests (it's owned by the Senators owner though). Yeah, it sucks now, since they are all afraid of being suspended and such. Most of them fight now just to get a change in momentum or jump start their team. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Neal Broten beating up Wayne Gretzky. Memorable has two nice guys went at it. The Tigers and White Sox got into it a few years back. The 1973 NLCS. Rose slid hard into Harrelson at 2nd, and the benches cleared.
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Nevermind, Old school nailed it already. The Pawtuckett Red Sox shuffle kicking the catcher in the chest then spearing the hell out of the pitcher. Still, hilarious to this day. Red Sox should have called him up for the Yankee series so he could shuffle kick Posada and charge Clemens. The player who did this, Izzy Alcantara, is playing in a Korean league right now. I also like Yanks vs. BoSox ALCS Game 4. I was eating pizza at this one restaurant next to a laundromat that had a TV with this game on. When Garcia was hit, someone from the laundromat ran into the restaurant and told the news. Many of the workers in the restaurant and me and my brother ran over and saw the rest unfold. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 I remember Charles Barkley suplexing shaq to the ground. This was earlier in Shaq's career when no one would mess with him in fear of being killed. Barkley put to rest those rumors.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 Belcher v. Park Early in the game, Chan Ho Park had beaned Angels infielder Randy Velarde—the smallest guy in the Angels lineup. Soon after, Park gave up a grand slam to backup catcher Matt Walbeck, who was hitting about .206 at the time. A few batters later, Park nobly took out his frustration on Velarde—again. Later in the game, Park bunted up the first base line. Angels pitcher Tim Belcher picked up the ball and tagged Park in the chest. That's when the Dodgers pitcher went apeshit. After taking a step back, Park dug into his Korean bag of tricks and karate kicked Belcher in the mid-section with his cleats. Whether it was more reminiscent of Mr. Miyagi, Bruce Lee, or Pelé, Park actually got his ass whooped. Belcher, who must have been about 45 year old at the time, threw Park to the ground and pounded on him. Park received a seven-game suspension and was fined $3,000 by the National League. "He pushed the ball in my chest," Park said afterward. "That's not normal. It feels like he was trying to hurt me." Yeah, no shit.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2004 How about the fist fight between Mike Sweeney and Jeff Weaver back when Weaver was a Tiger. Not for being a quality fight, but Sweeney is known as such a nice guy and runs the Kansas City chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Atheletes. Sweeney just went bezerk and charged at Weaver. You're lucky to get one good every other night now, and that's with all of the games combined. I agree, I doubt that Draper asked McCarty to fight for him, but I'd have told McCarty "thanks, but this is my battle. Let me kick his ass." It's not like it was a big guy that hit Draper, it was one of the biggest p*ssies in the league. If it had been an actual enforcer, I'd have no issue with McCarty taking the battle unto himself. And count me among the people that mourn the death of the hockey fight. I can understand why they discouraged the bench-clearing brawls - they were getting pretty commonplace for a while there. Hell, I even understand why they discourage the every-guy-on-the-ice donnybrook. But if two guys want to drop the gloves and change the momentum of a game, or get retribution for a cheap hit, let them go at it. The instigator penalty is bad for hockey. Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2004 My best sports fight is from a small hockey league in southern alberta here. Local team against evil invading native team. Evil invading native team is totally drunk off their asses getting scored on with ever shot. They are not inpressed, So two guys tussle a little and native guy knocks local guy down, and kicks him in the face unprotected. Dude is cut for a good 15 stitches at least and the rest of the game went downhill from there. It was really fun when everyone in the stands(about half and half mix for each team) pretty much started rioting because everyone was hammered. Good times. Angel_Grace_Blue 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2004 Bird vs. Dr. J Danny Ainge biting Tree Rollins Ray Buchanan Germaning some guy in the playoffs, I think getting suspended for the SuperBowl. T.O. getting clobbered on the Dallas star was interesting. Ritchie McCaw and Bob Skinstad beating up Pieter Van Zyl during All Blacks Springboks Tri-Nations match in SA 03, after Van Zyl drunkenly climbed a chain-link fence, sprinted 60m and tackled ref David McHugh to the ground, dislocating the ref's shoulder. Go rugby! Let's not forget Corne Krige (Captain of the Boks) concussing his own teammate with an accidental punch. GO RUGBY! Though not really a fight (And not many of mine have been), Clemens hurling a chunk o' bat at Mike Piazza. Juan Marichal (Giants pitcher) taking a bat to John Roseboro (Dodgers catcher) Belle nailing some second baseman with a forearm in the early (ish?) 90s. Though I doubt any of these equal any little league fight between two fathers.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted January 17, 2004 The more funny fight happened two years between the Giants and Cubs. For two years in a row, one of the games during a weekend series, they designated it "Until there is Cure Day". And what do the Giants and Cubs do? The first year there is bench clearing brawl. The next year, the same thing happened again. I think they were missing the whole point of that day. The smile on Nolan Ryan's face was about a mile long, when he knew he was going to school Robin Ventura. And the fact that he beat on him while he held a head lock. Priceless. I remember when the Avs and Red Wings were playing each other, and even before the puck dropped, the Centers went at it. Sorry if I don't have the names. I want to say it was Sakic and Yzerman. You got to love hatred among teams. And the Chan Ho Park fight was funny for this line. When told that Park's hobby was a martial art and that was his reason for that nasty groin shot. And Belcher replied "Well, my hobby is hunting, and you don't see me shooting him". (paraphrase) The Kermit and Tomjanivich punch was the nastiest punch I have ever seen, on tape of course, but it still makes me squim. And it nearly killed Tomjanivich. I mean spinal fluid was leaking from his spine. And the funny thing, Kermit has done much charity and work on noble causes. He just happen to swing as a defense mechanism, and bam. One of the more memorable fights, was when Buster Douglas out fought the fighter who I thought was going to dominate for many years to come. Imagine my suprise when I turn on the channel and notice the fight is in the 9th round. Douglas was supposed to an easy fight. And then when Douglas floored Tyson, that is the pinpoint moment of Tyson's fall from grace. And Douglas gets his own video game, and his ass handed to him by Holyfield. And Tyson gets removed from his. Funny how one event sets of a chain reaction, and can really either shoot you to the top, or spin you to the bottom. I also like Doug Christie's right hook against Fox. Bill Simmons applauded him for hitting one of the more annoying players in the NBA. I concor. Those are some the fights that come to mind. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2004 Ventura essentially let Ryan beat the crap out of him. Watch the video he's running all out, and slows down right when he gets to the pitchers mound. Almost like..wait a minute this is Nolan Ryan.I can't fight Nolan Ryan.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted January 17, 2004 Good observation. I think Ventura realize the futility of the situation a little too late. Man Ryun is like in his fifties, and I still would never f@#$ with that guy.

Honestly, Tyson was ripe for an upset right around there. He wasn't in top shape, he was used to slaughtering chumps (like Douglas), his corner was in shambles, and couldn't help Tyson when he got in trouble. It didn't help matters that Buster was a guy with nothing to lose who fought the fight of his life as a 40:1 underdog. 40 to 1 That's INSANE. Personally, I think the thing that fucked Tyson up was Cus D'Amato dying.

Tyson stopped developing as a boxer at that point, because King was more concerned with his own bottom line.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted January 17, 2004 Red Sox and Orioles in 2002 One of the Orioles players intentionaly slammed Nomar in the ribs and then followed that up by hitting Manny in the back close to his neck. Manny started to charge but was calmed down and in the next inning Derek Lowe through a sinker that hit Gary Mathews Jr in the ass. Gary Mathews Jr was jawwing the whole way down to first so Derek Lowe said "Take your base and stop your crying" so Mathews charged the mound from the first base line which lead to a massive brawl. Then pitching coach Tony Cloninger was trying to restrain people and almost ended up killing BJ Surhoof with the one armed headlock he had on him. Photos showed BJs head almost purple and bleeding from the nose due to pressure. Things seemed to have settled down before an Orioles relief pitcher tried taking a cheap bunny punch at Jason Varitek which lead to the brawl restarting in Short LF/SS

AlwaysPissedOff 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2004 Bowe/Golota, obviously. Sox/Yanks, 2003 ALCS. Just watching Zimmer trying to run had me falling down laughing. Heat/Knicks when Zo and Larry Johnson were throwing those wussy ass, "miss-by-a-mile" punches and Van Gundy had a death grip on Zo's ankles... hahahaha. Not much of a fight, but Stackhouse/Hornacek was funny as hell. Jeff did something to Stack when he was driving and it pissed Jerry off so much that he threw a haymaker(that connected) while Hornacek was STILL IN THE AIR. Seeing it in slow-mo on ESPN, you could see Jeff's jaw get ROCKED. Knicks/Bulls 95(?) playoffs: Just an all-out bench clearer which started when a Knick was shooting free throws and the guards back at mid-court started throwing down. It was funny as hell watching Pippen throwing punches like that in the big ass dogpile that resulted, heh.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2004 I'm a homer for Houston sports so I've got to agree with Nolan using Robin as a human speed bag. Also a nice brawl between the Astros and Expos way back when (like at least a decade ago) when Danny Darwin (aka Dr. Death) brushedback/nailed an Expo. Started a huge brawl where former Astro pitcher Jeff Juden (6'6", 230 lbs.) got body slammed by Casey Candaele (about 5'7", 160 lbs.). Truly a bizarre sight.
