The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Something other than Lord of the Poop better win Best Picture. God sent down a miracle for me once...and put something over Saving Private Poop... Are you there God, it's me bps21!

starvenger 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 I'm glad they saw through Cruise's 3 hour plea for an Oscar nomination. I'd like LotR to win Best Picture, but it's in tough so I don't see it happening...
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 27, 2004 LOTR stands a better chance this year than they did the last two times. Lost In Translation is it's biggest competition, with Mystic River behind it.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Even if any of the three movies were good (which...they were not) they still shouldn't win best picture. Other movies have to have a beginning, middle and end and tell a story. Give it some stupid "special" award.
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 God sent down a miracle for me once...and put something over Saving Private Poop... I actually think Saving Private Ryan is one of the all-time greatest movies that didn't win the Best Picture Oscar, but hey, to each his own. And about LOTR chances this year, I think it does have a better chance than previous years, given that it already won Golden Globes for Best Picture and Director. So it's my front-runner to win, even though I didn't like it as much as Two Towers. Hell, it's not even my favorite movie this year, I just think the Academy voters will give it to Jackson and Co. anyway.

Mole 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Best Picture will go to Mystic River Sean Penn will win Best Actor Chalize Theron will win Best Actress Peter Jackson SHOULD win Best Director, but my guess it will go to Sophia.
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Lost In Translation deserves best picture, but I wouldn't be too disapointed if LOTR wins. And Kill Bill not getting nominated for best score? Bollocks.
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Wow, Kill Bill didn't get ANY nods.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Okay, I can live without Cold Mountain in the Best Picture part, but MAN OF THE HOUR didn't get nominated for best song! DAMNIT! Hell, Big Fish didn't get shit. Just the Best Score nom.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 27, 2004 It's not like anyone expected Kill Bill to get nominated for anything big. Editing, Score, Art Direction or original screenplay were the only potential noms for it.
Ted the Poster 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 My God, I can't believe that Paul Giamatti was shafted in his performance in American Splendor. Goddamn right. That performance was brilliant. He and William H. Macy both should've been nominated. Macy never gets recognition from the academy. That said, I hope Bill Murray, Ken Watanbe(who is the coolest fucking samurai EVER), and Charlize Theron win. I don't give a shit about Supporting Actress personally. NYU 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Perhaps I'm the only one, but I STILL think Colin Farrell was screwed over by not getting a nomination for "Phone Booth." It might not be a standard Academy-type film, but his performance was one of the few times I was genuinely impressed with an actor. And "Master and Commander" being nominated for Best Picture is a JOKE!

WrestlingDeacon 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Best Picture will go to Mystic River Sean Penn will win Best Actor Chalize Theron will win Best Actress Peter Jackson SHOULD win Best Director, but my guess it will go to Sophia. The academy will never give an Oscar to Sean Penn. They nominate him just to fuck with him. He's badmouthed them and Hollywood too many times. The nominations are enough for them to say, "see we can be big about things." I think LotR can win best picture without Jackson winning best director, but if he wins best director they're a lock for best picture. I do think that if Eastwood wins, then Mystic River has a damn good shot at winning best picture. Sophia Coppola is really going to need to get some hype up and they need to push the fact that she's a woman for her to sneak in there. Again, the Academy feels in a case like hers the nomination is enough unless there's a big groundswell for a woman to win the award.

spiny norman 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 What bothers me is that City Of God is nominated for such a large amount of awards, enough to warrant it getting a Best Picture nod, yet it isn't even nominated for Best Foreign Film. That's the bizarre thing. And you're all mad if you think Sean Penn was better than Bill Murray.
Justice 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 The list shapes up just like it should, though I'm very disappointed that Sean Astin didn't get a "Best Supporting Actor" nominee. He really deserved it.
Guest JumpinJackFlash Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Kill Bill got robbed, probably because its in two parts. The same goes for The Matrix sequels. Not that I thought Matrix 2 and 3 should be nominated for best picture, but I think they should've been nominated for best special effects. And no nod to Uma for Kill Bill. Master and Commander should win best picture. It was a very good movie. No nomination for Crowe?
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 I forgot about for that. Astin should have gotten nod for LoTR.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 27, 2004 The fact that LOTR was driven by ensemble acting, killed the chance for any of the actors to be awarded.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 Johnny Depp got a nod for pretending to be Keith Richards on a boat??? And Master and Commander? Is there a rule that says "RUSSELL CROWE MOVIES MUST BE NOMINATED FOR OSCARS" or something? And no Kill Bill for sound?? You gotta be kidding me!
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 27, 2004 You can't complain about Crowe, unless you also bitched about Hanks during his string of nominations.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 You can't complain about Crowe, unless you also bitched about Hanks during his string of nominations. Yes, I did actually. He only deserves a nod for some performances, but it seems like Hanks and Crowe movies just are getting nods now because they have Tom Hanks and Russell Crowe. Hell, even Tom has been joking about that now. Tom Hanks could star in Tremors 5 and it would get an Oscar nomination at this point just because it had Tom Hanks. Great actors, but their movies are getting way overrated. Plus Crowe as a sea captain? Nice to steal an idea from SOUTH PARK and give it an Oscar nomination. And Johnny Depp over Paul Giamatti? Come on, Giamatti was damn near perfect. This reminds me of the time Jim Carrey got snubbed as Andy Kaufman, although Giamatti is in a much better movie than "Man on the Moon" was. Depp was nothing more than Keith, I half expected him to yell out, "TIME TO TOUR, MICK NEEDS MONEY FOR HIS BABIES!" He was alright, but no way deserving of an Oscar nod. MDH257 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2004 What bothers me is that City Of God is nominated for such a large amount of awards, enough to warrant it getting a Best Picture nod, yet it isn't even nominated for Best Foreign Film. That's the bizarre thing. City of God was Brazil's Official submission for Best Foriegn Language Film last year. The film was screened for some acadamy members (most of them old). The audience hated the movie with many walking out and it was not nominated for Best Foriegn Language Film. Miramax then released the movie in U.S. theaters in Feb. So this year the movie was elligable in every catagory except Best Foriegn Language Film. Same thing happened to Y Tu Mama Tambien. It was was Mexico's Foriegn film submission in 2002 and nominated for best screenplay in 2003.
Cheex Incarnate 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2004 Wow, the Academy is freaking out this year. Albert Finney and Paul Bettany getting SNUBBED for supporting actor, while Baldwin (who was, admittedly, good, but not as good as the other two). Cold Mountain getting SNUBBED for best song....thats just insulting Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Carribean getting a nod over; Paul Giamatti (also, American Splendor should be nominated for ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY, its not really adapted from anything) Russel Crowe, his character had nuances and certain things that he had to transfer over from the book, whereas Depp's portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow was an impersonation of Keith Richards (even Johnny admitted to that) Sean Penn (in 21 Grams), yes i know he's already nominated for Mystic River, but his performance in 21 Grams is even better Also: no nod for sound or editing with Kill Bill Finding Nemo nominated for screenplay? Over 21 Grams? Excuse me? and the biggest insult of all: SEA'FUCKING'BISCUIT?! WHAT THE FUCK? I mean, I would have understood a supporting actor nod for Cooper or Bridges, but picture? Over Cold Mountain, 21 Grams, Big Fish, American Splendor, In America, and City of God? What...the fuck?
