Slovakia Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 In conversation with That One Friend Of Mine From That One LSD Thread, she posted a picture of one of her friends who was wearing some eyeliner and mascara and some other glittery shit. She went on to say that guys are hot in makeup, because hey, look at Butch Walker. Sorry, I'll cave in on everything else dealing with her, but I'm not putting makeup on. Ever. I've got my dignity. I'm baffled by this one and hope that someone can explain to me why guys wearing makeup can be construed as attractive. Call me old-fashioned, but I feel that guys are supposed to be pretty low-maintenance in their appearances. Sure, when you need to look nice, look nice. But you shouldn't devote time to putting sparkly crap on your face. That's just stupid. I hope the whole board doesn't give me the backlash of the century and condemn me for not wearing makeup.
Spaceman Spiff Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 ::waits to see Kotz's answer::
CanadianChick Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Usually, I agree. But a little black eyeliner looks very, very hot on some guys. See Johnny Depp from Pirates of the Carribean. Anything else is pushing it. Glitter? No. Mascara? No.
Zack Malibu Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Guys shouldn't be wearing any makeup of any sort, even nail polish. If that's your thing, go for it, but I don't see why a guy would do it.
CanadianChick Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Disagree with you there Zackster. Black nail polish looks hot some. Stupid on most, yes. But hot on some.
Zack Malibu Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Eh, it's just personal opinion. You could also take into consideration that I've got the whole prep/surfer dude style going on and never really considered it. Just not my taste in style.
CanadianChick Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Well, Zack, I've seen pictures of you, and you're right: makeup and nail polish would look stupid on you. And some guys that do look like the posers in the strongest sense of the word. For example: the leader singer in Good Charlotte. It looks stupid. But it just looks fucking sexy on other guys. Example: I like that look on Shane West.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 It's not an "always" rule either, though. For example, you have to wear makeup on camera and stuff.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I've worn black nail polish before; getting over the Carson Daly-ness of it was the rough part.
k thx Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 In general, I think eyeliner only ever works on men with fairly long dark hair.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 This reminds me that'll I probably be wearing some (nail polish, not eyeliner) this Saturday; my gf loves it. I hope it doesn't come off when I'm doing her.

Slovakia Posted February 13, 2004 Author Report Posted February 13, 2004 Yeah that's the thing, like Zack said, I am also a prep, and would look foolish. When I've had to wear makeup for plays that I was in, I didn't think "this is something I could get used to!" I didn't like it.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 *stores all of what CanadianChick said into his memory for if they should ever meet* Make sure to look like gothic pirate raver...check
Art Sandusky Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 *stores all of what CanadianChick said into his memory for if they should ever meet* Make sure to look like gothic pirate raver...check Look like myself, check. ::waits to see Kotz's answer:: Makeup looks dumb on dudes, but I will color my nails black from time to time.
Nighthawk Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I wore makeup for years, but I gained too much weight to do it anymore.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I tried to use the eyelash stuff because it looks like I have no eyelashes but I ended up making one big huge mess.
CanadianChick Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 *stores all of what CanadianChick said into his memory for if they should ever meet* Make sure to look like gothic pirate raver...check Actually, it depends: On darker haired guys, I generally like the darker look. Not really goth, but darker, yes. If they play an instrument, it's even better. Example: Tom from Blink 182. Very hot. On lighter haired guys, I can't resist the beach-boy look. You know, blond hair (has to be longer or shaggy), green eyes, tanned. Can't get enough of that. Example: Edge (duh). Or just the cute, little guy look. Damn, I think this is the most girly I've ever gotten on this board.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I have Jim Morrison like hair and I can play the guitar a tad, I have no idea where that leaves me
NoCalMike Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I thought the glam look was horrid, but the Black Metalers look ok using it as a gimmick.
spiny norman Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 What about when crossdressing? Because I do wear makeup generally when I do dress up, and it's all just for a bit of fun. Otherwise, I would never wear makeup. As for what look I am, I have longish light brown hair, but not the surfer look because I'm not too dark plus am a bit too hairy for that kind of thing. So wear do I fit in that?
Guest JacK Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Well, I think nail polish, eyeliner stuff on guys looks pretty ugly . . . which is exactly why I want to wear it . . . well, black eyeliner; not nail polish; even I have my freakin limits; and I have blonde streaks in black hair; and glitta in the same hair (though that's because my friends insist on it when we go anywhere, after I did it once as a joke). But I'm lazy and thus can't be bothered to go find it and buy some black face-eyeliner-paint-whatever; but I'm sure I'll get around to eventually.

Guest Ghettoman Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Alright I've confirmed this with 6 women and the answer is a glaring 'men should never wear makeup'. Now I know some women here might say otherwise, but really, there posting here so they can't be considered normal. Basically, women like there men looking like men, not pampered and prettied little things. Basically if your that much of a metrosexual, there will be no sex involved, at least not with a vagina....
Guest EQ Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Makeup is for girls. Is there really any more that needs to be said?
Firestarter Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 What about when crossdressing? Because I do wear makeup generally when I do dress up, and it's all just for a bit of fun. That is SO much fucking more than I needed to know. Between being forced to agree with SpiderPoet, and crossdressing wrestling fans, I think I'm about to vomit. Makeup is for girls. Is there really any more that needs to be said? No. If you're a guy, don't EVER put anything on your face other than aftershave. Ever. I don't care if you're gay or straight or bi or whatever kink you can think of, if you're a man have the decency to look like a goddamn man. This also means that if you have long hair, get a goddamn haircut.
CanadianChick Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Now I know some women here might say otherwise, but really, there posting here so they can't be considered normal. Ouch, burn on me. Now everyone probably thinks I love it when men wear make-up. I don't. But I don't see the big deal with nail polish. Or on occassion, a little eyeliner. But if you wear glitter, you've crossed the decency line.
Jingus Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 The only place where male makeup is appropriate is at a goth club or a Rocky Horror midnight show, in my opinion. Other than that (and utilitarian makeup for appearing on camera, stuff like that), leave it to the ladies.
Guest EQ Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Shit, I even hate it when guys paint their faces for sporting events. Eyeliner? Get the fuck outta here with that
