JoeDirt Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 He wasn't _too_ short lived, but I always loved the Berzerker. I thought he was going to get a big feud with Taker after that match where he tried to stab him with his sword and piledrove him on the floor, but alas, it never happened... I always wonder what would happen if the Berserker was still around today. I bet "HUSS~!" would be crazy over with the crowd. Hell, I'd gladly rock a "HUSS" t-shirt. As for short-lived characters...Techno Team 2000, Salvatore Sincere, Jean Pierre Lafite (I liked him though). Yep, just gotta give Jimmy HUSS~! Jacobs a shot in the Crusier division. I liked Lafitte a lot too. He had great matches with Bret and Taker that I remember seeing. Gotta love Hakushi, too, though he lasted about a year in the WWF. I always wished they pushed him more. Also enjoyed Hakushi's work a lot in the WWF. He got a nice push as a heel and then as soon as they turned him face, they jobbed him out. Never understood why. Ditto. Vince just doesn't like those foreigners, I guess. Hakushi was monster over as a heel, though. He had a unique style and look, pulled off some unbelievable matches, had a good gimmick, etc. I would have pushed him to the moon, but I'm not Vince.
Guest DR PHIL Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Jimmy Jack Funk was always a favorite. Why the fuck did he wear a mask. Didn't meng seriously fuck him up in a barfight?
jester Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Remember Steamboat's brief return as "The Dragon"? As in, he dressed like a dragon, breathed fire, and the announcer acted like he was a totally new wrestler?
Papacita Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 I haven't seen Dean Douglas mentioned. Still one of my favorite characters, BTW.
King Kamala Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 How about Salvatore Sincere? The gimmick of an insincere Italian guy, not a mobster just a guy from Italy. He was one of those guys who had a gimmick for about a month and then got squashed for another few months and then disappeared. Even though he was only around for a while, he DID have a catchphrase I A LOVE-A YOU (What an insincere bastard)! How about Henry Godwin, the evil hog farmer that worked for Ted DiBiase? I know the face equivalent lasted a while, but the heel one was short lived (Not much as short lived as it was forgetable). Although he did stick around long enough as a heel to get squashed by both Sid and Diesel (In a title shot nonetheless!)
Papacita Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 I actually liked Henry Godwinn too, now that I think about it. Not a good wrestler, but he was a fairly good JTTS. His matches with Diesel and Taker had me buying him as a serious threat back in the day.

Didn't Mark Mero kill his heat by calling him his real name.... and wasn't it something very similar to Tom Brady?
Guest ToddRoyal Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Tom Brandi. Yeah, Mero used his real name and called him a "jobber" and he actually wrestled Mero under his real name in a mini feud for like 2 weeks before disappearing for good. At some point in there, though he was managed by Jim Cornette. For a little while at least.
King Kamala Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Tom Brandi actually beat Marc Mero by countout I think after dropkicking him out of the ring. What a crappy finish. Does anyone remember the Home Improvement match between Duke Droese and TL Hopper that main evented an episode of Superstars in late 96ish. I think it was Duke Droese's last match in the WWF, cause TL Hopper went over. All I remember was thinking that this match wasn't even good enough to main event a Superstars. Also does anyone remember the Headbangers gimmick before they were the Sisters of Loves, they were generic heel twin wrestlers that kept switching off. I think they were called the Spiders or something along those lines. They fought Sid on Superstars (Also in late 96ish) during Sid's WWF title run and the match was actually not a complete squash.
Vern Gagne Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 This might of been WCW. Some jobber tag team called Well Dunn.
Ted the Poster Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Naked Mideon is the only thing to ever make me laugh while truly horrified at the same time.
Ced Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 This might of been WCW. Some jobber tag team called Well Dunn. No they were WWF creations. "Timothy Well. Steven Dunn. They are WELL DUNN!" You can pretty much go into WrestleCrap and find a list of awful short-lived gimmicks. My personal favorites were the friggin' Minis. I'm not completely sure if they were short-lived (no pun intended) but a particular gimmicked Mini by the name of Mini Vader is my personal favorite. His warcry of "RAAAWWR! I AM VADER!" (in a midget's voice) is permanently etched in my head.

Mini Vader and Mini Mankind along with Mascreda Segrada Jr (who was max mini later on) and La Parkita were on the Free-for-all
Guest The Imp Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 Alex "The Pug" Porteau...he seemed to be a mini Kurt Angle... :maybehegrewuptobeKurtAngle:
King Kamala Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 How about Who? I'm talking about Who? Who knows Who is? OK that joke was never funny, but talk about short lived. I remember he had one squash match to put himself over, then got squashed by a few mid card babyfaces and disappeared all within two months.
spman Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 THe greatest gimmick of all time was Max Moon, his gimmick was that he was an alien. He would come out in his space cosutme and he's have a run attached to his costume that would shoot off a Pyro. Then his costume would blow steam so it would look like he was hovering up the apron, but he'd really just walk up the ring steps. Best.GImmick.Ever.
Guest drdrainoscott Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 Does anyone else remember a "wrestlecrap" battle royal that was on Superstars back in 1995 or so? I checked Cawthon's site but I couldn't find it. I just remember it had Mantaur and The Blu Brothers and Friar Furgeson and a bunch more. I was watching the TV and I couldn't believe what a shitty group was in the ring. I don't remember who won but just remember it was horrible.

Only battle royal I remember from Superstars was the one shortly after Rumble 95 to continue the feud between Shawn and Bulldog. Shawn eliminated himself early and Bulldog won (I think). Could that be what you were talking about? THe greatest gimmick of all time was Max Moon, his gimmick was that he was an alien. He reminded me of Mega Man or something. Plus, he had a pretty good match with HBK on the first Raw.
Guest drdrainoscott Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 No, I dont think that was it cause I'm pretty sure it took place in the summer. Maybe it wasn't Superstars. It could have been Challenge or The Action Zone I guess.
The Czech Republic Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Alex "The Pug" Porteau...he seemed to be a mini Kurt Angle... :maybehegrewuptobeKurtAngle: My circle of friends preferred to call him Alex "The Pud" Porteau and today still refer to him now and then when we feel like referring to the most obscure WWF superstars possible. "Matt Morgan is the hottest thing since Alex 'The Pug' Porteau" "He may look good now, but he wouldn't last a minute with Alex 'The Pug' Porteau"
IWD Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 Beaver Cleavage (Chaz), Meat (Shawn Stasiak) and Aldo Montoya (Justin Credible.)
HarleyQuinn Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 Alex 'Pug' Porteau, the first REAL amateur wrestler in the WWF/E...with the exception of the Steiners of course

I thought he was going to get a big feud with Taker after that match where he tried to stab him with his sword and piledrove him on the floor, but alas, it never happened... Always loved Skinner too. He had a great match with Bret at Tuesday in Texas for the IC title. This is a great Wrestlecrap thread. HUSS! HUSS! Man that was some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen. funny promos. But as far as favorites I'd have to go with Outback Jack
Jericholic82 Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I am surprised no one mentioned Waylon Mercy as most smarks think it was a great character. Yea I remember the "home improvement match" too. do you also remember when duke feuded with hhh in early 96 and trips cut his hair off? as for others not mentioned, how about fatu (rikishi) in 95/96 it was after the headshrinkers and he was basically the same character as rikishi except his BUTT was not as big. he was a face that warned kids about not being in gangs or being involved with drugs. it's commonly referred to as "make a difference" fatu. he even danced then! this caused rd reynolds of wrestlecrap to decree that the only reason rikishi got over was cuz of the big BUTT since dancing didn't work earlier. and another "great" gimmick was the ringmaster. good thing steve thought better of it and convinced creative it wasn't going to work. I didn't even realize it was steve austin at first cuz of the shaved head and I didn't watch raw too much at the time. I finally read in wwf magazine an article that reffered to him as "ringmaster" steve austin.T hen again I was 13 at the time and thought shawn michaels really collapsed on raw so I could be easily fooled lol.

Celtic Jobber Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 My 2 favorite short-lived gimmick characters are Rad Radford (Louie Spicolli) and Waylon Mercy. Waylon was a character far ahead of his time. I also liked Man Mountain Rock (I was always a mark for Maxx Payne).
The Kid Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 If anyone remembers the 3rd member of Men on a Mission, I'll give them $20. It was Mo! *Ted Dibiase laugh and Flair strut*
Guest wayzing Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Jimmy Jack Funk was always a favorite. Why the fuck did he wear a mask. Didn't meng seriously fuck him up in a barfight? Yeah! Every now and then someone will mention how Haku/Meng beat Funk up so badly he lost one of his eyes. I've never really believed it though, although I'm sure Haku could beat anyone up veeery badly.
