Papacita Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 I'm sitting here in the computer lab nodding off. I've been up since maybe 3 or 4 and have two more classes today (both of which I'll probably fall asleep in), and I'm desperately trying to stay awake here. So I figured I'd start this thread to kill time and stay awake and stuff. Anyway, what's the longest you've been up? For me, I think the longest I've done is 20 hours. I've heard people say they've gone two or three days without sleep, and I dunno how they do it. Usually, when I hit 12 hours or so, I'm done. I'm rambling my ass off right now, so just respond to the thread. Do it for the children.
Fökai Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 About a full year ago... Day 1: Woke up before school, at approximately 6:30 a.m. Day 2: Went to sleep directly after school - that would be 2:30 p.m. Total: 32 hours. EDIT: I'm 100% sure I could DESTROY that now.
C Dubya 04 Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 I stayed up for around 55 hours straight back when I was in college. My mind was playing tricks on me by the end. Let's just say that it was an assisted period of staying awake and leave it at that.
JHawk Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 I did a couple of days pushing 36 hours, usually during finals week. These days, forget it, I can barely stay awake through an eight hour shift at work.
Nighthawk Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Somewhere close to 70 hours. No, I was not strung out on drugs. It was a mind over matter thing, my brain telling me to stay awake being stronger than my body telling me to go to sleep. I've gone for weeks sleeping an hour or two a night. As a side note, the longest I've slept is 18 hours.
Guest Krazy Karter Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Someone explain this to me: I'm not a nap person. I usually go to bed around 2 and wake up around 8 on a school day, or around 11 on a day off. So the other day I feel tired, and I go to bed around 4 PM. I wake up around midnight with chills and a shitty headache. I *never* get headaches. I go back to bed, wake up around 8 in the morning, and the chills and headache are gone. What causes that?
Ripper Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Weak ASSES. I stayed up for 4 days and some change... Senior Year, State track meet, I didn't sleep the entire time we were there. It would probably kill me now, but back then, easy baybee. I did spend about 80 dollars at waffle house those 4 days though...I stayed hungry.

Golgo 13 Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 The longest I've gone was a bit past two days. I don't remember exact numbers, but it was 50-52 hours. Like C Dubya, by the end my mind was playing tricks on me. The headache and chills thing happens to me on occasion. I'm guessing it just has to do with drastically changing what you're used to rather than easing into it.
Guest Danny Dubya v 2.0 Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 3 days. On the third day I was strangely the most wide awake I've ever been, but for a few random split seconds I fell unconscious and popped back up.
snuffbox Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Last week, I didnt really sleep for 4 days as I was in the hospital as my ex was having a baby and I also had 8 hour days at work. It was 'interesting'.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 1 minu...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Art Sandusky Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 55 hours, but my mind was still fine, and I laid down to go to sleep on purpose. I didn't really have a reason to stay up, I just did it. I probably could have gone another 10 hours at least.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Lots of people probably schooled me, but day 1 I woke up at around 6:30-ish, and didn't go to sleep until the next day at noon or so. So only about 30 or so hours.
Tawren Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 80 hours or so last year, I just could not sleep. By 60 hours or so I felt I was going insane. I stayed in bed for 10 hours, couldn't sleep. I hated it.
Guest Jimbo Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 44 hours. Hell it was...I was fucked up for the next week.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 two and a half days. I was sobering up
HarleyQuinn Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 Mine was 40 hours, I was busy cramming for mid-terms and well, it was worth it at least as I managed to do decent(C to B range on all).
Guest Anglesault Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 (edited) 52 Hours. I think. 6 AM on a Friday to 10 AM on a Sunday. And, oddly enough, the longer I stay up, the more unbearably perky I appear. I was pissing people off by Saturday Night, because they knew I hadn't been sleeping and I was the most alert one there. CanadianChick Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 Hm...I think it was 26 hours? Yeah, it was. I got up at 4:30 AM for swim practice, then I couldn't get to sleep till 6AM the next night. It was strange. Didn't know why I had such a sudden case of insomia.
Matt Young Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 I have stayed up for 3 days straight on a few occasions. I'm an insomniac by nature, so it wasn't always a purposeful venture. I tend to get pretty tired after 20-24 hours but I often cannot get to sleep. Then, a few hours later, I'll hit the stage where everything's funny and I kind of get giggly. After that subsides, I get my second wind where I'm awake all day. My habit of consuming large amounts of caffeine helps me stay awake usually, although I drink so much that it doesn't give me a "buzz"... I only notice an effect (or lack thereof) if I don't have any. Stress and excessive worrying (or just excessive thought in general) keepp me awake, and the caffeine keeps me sane.
Guest Bottled Black Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 Hell right now I've been awake for 23 hours, my longest was about 38 hours. Which I thought was a lot until reading some of the other posts here. Absolutely amazing.
Kardo Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 59 hours... I was laughing at everything by the end. I was playing with my friends sound system and he told me not to touch the cable. I started yelling touch touch touch touch touch and fell on the ground laughing.
Cuban Linx Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 Around about 55-60 hours i think a couple of years ago, for no particular reason.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 While sober, probably about 45-50 hours, which I did rather frequently in college. Hopped up on goofballs, though..much much longer.
Matt Young Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 What do you mean by "goofballs", Agent? I'm pretty well-versed in drug terminology, but I've never heard that one. I'm just curious because I could use something to help me remain alert after a long, sleepless night, but caffeine's too weak and I'm not about to try shit like meth or coke after seeing those drugs' effects on people I've known. The only drugs that I use make me tired (weed, alcohol, vicodin... shrooms are the exception, btu those aren't for everyday use). Alright, I'm done ruining another thread by veering off-topic. I still haven't been to sleep, and my mind begins to wander, causing me to ramble. Then again, those have been the circumstances when I've made a lot of my posts this past week, so whatever. Carry on.
Nighthawk Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 Funnily enough, "hopped up on goofballs" is merely slang for being on drugs, any drugs. It's from some movie or something. I will feel no shame if it turns out it actually does mean something, however.
The Kid Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 Probably about 2 days just for the sole reason of me not getting to sleep. I get so damn hyper when I'm overtired though, pretty much just like Kardo. TOUCH TOUCH TOUCH!!!! I'm overtired right now as well.
