LucharesuFan619 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 CREDIT: Dave Meltzer at WrestlingObserver.com Raymond Fernandez, who was a WWF star in the 80s and a New Japan star in the 90s as Hercules Hernandez, was found dead on Saturday morning, having died in his sleep. Dewey Robertson announced that Hercules had passed away at the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame banquet last night. We have since confirmed the story is true. Fernandez was living in Tampa. At this point the cause of death is presumed to be a heart attack, pending an autopsy. Hercules worked all over the world, working for several years as a heel in the WWF, including wrestling Ricky Steamboat at Wrestlemania II. He and Scott Norton, as the Jurassic Powers, were a major tag team during the glory days of New Japan Pro Wrestling, feuding with teams like the Steiner Brothers and the Hell Raisers. Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted March 7, 2004 Power and Glory owned... Agreed. I was going to make a comment about how a Power and Glory reunion won't happen. I always liked Hurcules for some reason. I never heard of him as Hurcules Hernandez until I started up on the internet. He ruled.
Slingshot Suplex 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 The first thing I remember about him was that he held the Southern heavyweight and the Florida title at the same time and then vacated both when he left to go,I believe, to the WWF. I've read that he also did some good stuff in the Mid-South and won the tag belts there with Ted DiBiase. Either that or he and another partner wrestled DiBiase and Williams for them...I'm a little hazy on that. I really liked Power & Glory as well. They were my favorite WWF tag team for a bit there. And I liked the fued with Billy Jack Haynes.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted March 7, 2004 Oh My God, this sucks. I was just watching Power & Glory beat the shit out of Marty Jannetty from Summerslam 90. Hercules always ruled. R.I.P.

Guest Your Olympic Hero Report post Posted March 7, 2004 We will always remember the dreaded STEEL CHAIN! What about the classic Wrestlemania IV feud. THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR SNAPS THE CHAIN! Or the Billy Jack Haynes feud. WHO HAS THE BEST FULL NELSON?
BifEverchad 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 I wasn't a HUGE fan of his, but I always liked good ol' Hercules. Best memory was the whole Dibiase angle.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 We will always remember the dreaded STEEL CHAIN! What about the classic Wrestlemania IV feud. THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR SNAPS THE CHAIN! Or the Billy Jack Haynes feud. WHO HAS THE BEST FULL NELSON? Those were relatively good old school/80s feuds... Hercules was certainly an above average worker when compared to other roidstars such as Ted Arcidi, Dino Bravo, Rock Muraco, and current Steiner... RIP Hercules Hernandez
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted March 7, 2004 Hercules will never be called a GOOD worker, but he was decent. He even had carried Haku to a pretty good opener at WM V.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 I was a huge fan of his, so this hits me hard. One of my favorite memories of him is when it was Power & Glory vs. The Rockers, at SummerSlam 1990. They screwed up Shawn's leg so bad that he was out on the floor the entire match about it, and they just worked over on poor Marty. I was always a fan of his, and it always sucks to see one of the family pass on. Rest in peace Hercules!
DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 Man, that really sucks. He may not have been the biggest name in the WWF, but he was a decent power wrestler and Power and Glory were a good early 90's team. I still remember the surprisingly-decent Power and Glory vs LOD match from the WWF Battle Royale at the Albert Hall video. RIP Herc
iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 Well, another example of a wrestler who abused himself so much that it caught up with him and he passed away way too early then he should of.

Slickster 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 Has anybody said that this was caused by steroids? I can't help but think some people are jumping to conclusions here. At any rate, RIP Raymond Fernandez.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted March 8, 2004 Has anybody said that this was caused by steroids? I can't help but think some people are jumping to conclusions here. At any rate, RIP Raymond Fernandez. Probably was steroids, considering his size from 1987-91. I haven't seen the guy in 10 years, so I don't know if he was still using them. Anyway, even if he did use steroids, should that be held against him? It was his choice and most likely caught up with him. Oh wait, some jackass'. will say he killed himself doing it and was selfish for not thinking of his family.
Guest JMA Report post Posted March 8, 2004 Oh wait, some jackass'. will say he killed himself doing it and was selfish for not thinking of his family. You mean like how the Ultimate Warrior does? He did do it to Rude and Davey Boy Smith. I was a fan of Herc myself. I even started a thread about him a few weeks back on the Kayfabe Memories board (I post there under the handle "NotSuper"). The thread was about the lack of a push he received. It's too bad they didn't do more with him. He had a great look, wasn't a bad wrestler, and had a very marketable persona. The chain (as mentioned above) did indeed rule. I also feel he would've made a decent IC champion (maybe winning it from Rude). He could've at LEAST been a tag-team champion with Paul Roma. I hated it when they were turned into glorified jobbers. RIP Herc. You WILL be missed.

dubq 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2004 Power & Glory + Slick + The powerplex = classic Refresh my memory: what was the Powerplex again? Hercules would superplex the opponent from one turnbuckle, and Roma would hit a flying body press off the another as they hit the groud. Good shit.
Guest Banders Kennany Report post Posted March 8, 2004 Don't quote me on this, but it may be have been a vicious two-man superplex performed right off the top rope by Power and Glory onto their foes. I wonder how old he was. I would say maybe as old as late 50s since he always did seem a bit older, but I guess that added to his aura of being tough, like some kind of mountain man. It's sad when any wrestler dies because his family loved him very much probably, but I can't say I had any fond memories of this roid bozo. Still it is a loss since he had many fans and a family. RIP Hercules Hernandez. Hercules was certainly an above average worker when compared to other roidstars such as Ted Arcidi, Dino Bravo, Rock Muraco, and current Steiner... LOL, those guys were all terrible. Especially Dino Bravo. What a loser, hanging out with a fat slob like Earthquake. I do feel bad that he was murdered by druglords in the mafia though, so please don't think I was overjoyed reading of Bravo's passing. Has anybody said that this was caused by steroids? I can't help but think some people are jumping to conclusions here. At any rate, RIP Raymond Fernandez. C'mon use your head. He was a very muscley man and it always seems suspect. I always remembered he had bacne and not that I was looking, but I don't remember him having a package that was the size you would expect from him. I could be wrong though, but I still think he was a juicer.
