Least Funny Mainstream Comedians

. I really find the fucker creepy. I honestly think he is the most overrated comedian right now. He is doing Jim Carrey's act,

That's actually the first time I've heard that phrase in that order.

I've heard a lot of people say that Carrey tries to be Williams, though, and this year's Oscars kind of supported that.

As for Carlin, I went to his show in Vegas in October, and he was just painfully unfunny. The warm-up guy was funnier. It seemed like he was just trying to offend as many people in as many ways as possible, without worrying about being funny. To be fair, he was testing material for his next HBO special, but still.

I caught his show tonight and it sounds like he did basically the same thing as he did there. He said right from the get-go that he was getting ready material for his next HBO special, so he basically read his opening and closing bits (not that I really blame him, since they sound like they'll be an absolute bitch to actually memorize). His opening bit was a "poem" about being a modern man and it basically had a lot of tongue-twisters in it (i.e. "my inner-child is outward bound). His closing bit started out pretty nicely. A lot of people call him so negative that he said he'd share something he likes: fatal disasters. From there, he went on a five-minute bit that essentially involved a small fire spreading across the country, causing more and more problems along the way. It really dragged for the most part (although it did have a few nice lines in there).

As for the rest of the show, he threw in some old lines from previous specials, but a lot of the stuff was just gross-out stuff that seemed over the line, even for him. The crowd wasn't too receptive to a lot of it, which he even noted. Basically a lot of stuff about pussy donors, things you never want to hear, enemas, etc.

He did have a few good bits, including one about suicide ("Do you realize that at this moment, someone is dragging a chair across their garage and setting it in just the right spot?"), teen male deaths via masturbation, which involves cutting off your air before you climax and how if done wrong, it can result in death ("It's tough, because when you finish, you don't know if you're cumming or going."), among other bits.

The opener was actually funnier (more consistent) and did a lot of talk about the usual things (cell phones, airport security), but they were done well, so I had no complaints. He also had a portion where he played the guitar (quite well, I might add), altering lyrics to some well-known songs. Not sure if he was the same opener that you saw, but he was definitely better than Carlin.

But in all fairness to Carlin, he's just putting material together for his next special, so the whole point of these shows are to see what works and what doesn't. Hopefully he gets the message and realizes that some of his bits simply don't work.

Thank Christ no one has said Brooks, or Billy Crystal. I think Robin Williams is still hilarious, but that's just my opinion .

I fucking hate Jerry Seinfield with a PASSION.

I think he's horrendously unfunny, that his delievry sucks and frankly his voice and mannerisms annoy the shit out of me.

You've gotta have more than three functioning brain cells to appreciate Seinfeld. It's all good, though, bro.

I understand all of his jokes, I just find them to be completely unfunny.

Seinfeild is a middleclass attempt at intelligent humor and it fails miserably in my books.

Colin Quinn...

I hate him. Every single joke he tells, he gives that "I'm so nervous, I hope I don't fuck this up...SHIT, I did!" delivery, and he always looks like he's reading a cue card.

Now Dane Cook...THERE'S a funny comic.

Conan and Carlin are funny as hell.

Leno is not- and Headlines is a tired old joke. Leno's schtick seems to have turned into "Make observation on funny story- delivery obvious punchline, smirk".

Will Ferell bugged me on SNL- but his improv acting in movies is mindblowing. He's one of the funniest people on the planet.

Chris Rock's stand-up is fantastic, but his skills don't translate into acting.

Chris Katan has never been funny. Yay you're hyperactive- my cousin can do that.

I like the guys who do I Love the 80s, but the F-listers who do the shows that bite that concept are horrible.

Add me to the list of people who can't stand Robin Williams. Attention. Whore.

Gotta love all these people dropping names with not even a hint of a reason as to why they feel that way.  You're entitled to your own opinion, but at least back it up with something more than "he fucking sucks balls" or "he's overrated shit."

Jerry Seinfeld and his horribly overated sitcom can fuck off.

Here's a perfect example. I'm a big Jerry Seinfeld fan and a huge Seinfeld fan, as well. Despite my fandom, I can see why some people don't like it. That isn't to say that it's the fault of the show, but rather, it's the humor that a lot of people just don't get. I'm not calling you stupid or anything, but I know a lot of people who hate the show just because they're too damn thick-headed about things and think anything that they need to actually think about is stupid. I think that's something that makes the show brilliant. You've gotta have a head on your shoulders to truly appreciate some of the material on the show, unlike something like Friends, which is nothing more than a poor man's Seinfeld for the thinking challenged. When it comes to that show, everything short of smashing you over the head is done to let you know when you're supposed to be laughing. It has its moments, but for the most part, it's far to mediocre to get all the praise come give it. I often find that those who hate Seinfeld love Friends. Makes sense, though, since they're basically polar opposites on the thinking scale.

I wouldn't know who George Carlin was if it wasn't for this forum, maybe his stuff doesn't travel well or he simply sucks like some of you say.

Yes, a guy who has been a comic staple for over four decades must suck just because you haven't heard of him outside of this forum. Jesus. He's a comic I can understand people not liking because of his extreme views and the fact that his standup specials don't follow the basic formula most are accustomed to. He's usually up there making great points, but doing it in a humorous way. Unfortunately, him using this unusual formula has scared of many.

I hate Jerry Seinfeld. How did that sorry ass show get so popular to begin with?

Because it was original and despite this country being absolutely terrified of such a trait, there are times when a fresh concept is able to sneak by the radar detectors and become a success before it can be stopped.

Wow, sorry if i offended you mate, let me present my defence.

I posted an argument as to why 'Seinfeld was an incredibly overrated peice of fluff that could only pass for wonderfully original amongst the slackjawed dross of regular American sitcoms' at SNKT a good while back and frankly couldn't be bothered to post it here as well. I know you love the show but please don't get all hot under the collar with me because i couldn't be arsed to be more than brief here, especially when you never even replied to any of the points i made at SNKT. You probably won't reply to this either! I quite liked the show myself believe it or not but whenever its declared as either 'genius' or god forbid 'the best sitcom ever!' i can't help but think people are talking bollocks. Its almost as bad as when fans of the show argue anybody who doesn't share similar opinions doesn't 'get' the humor, maybe if you've been brought up on a diet of just Friends and Home Improvement etc it might be overly subtle but i sincerly doubt many people here (even those who have dissed Jerry S in one sentence) fall into that category.

George Carlin: Having admitted to not knowing him at all i said that maybe it was because he really did suck like some other posters were saying, having not seen him perform i was hardly going to dismiss him as crap myself was i? I don't actually live in the US so its more than possible a comedian who hasn't had a particularly notable film or sitcom career might pass me by, we also have comedians where i come from as well which might explain the overall lack of George Carlin i'm exposed to.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Norm McDonald, even though I like him.

I can't stand that Jon Henson guy who was on that Spike TV show.

Anorak, I didn't even realized you replied in this thread until you pointed it out to me just now. While I'm at it, I don't even recall see your post at SNKT, hence the reason why I never replied to that one, either. Had I seen it, I would've probably not jumped the gun on getting on your case for this thread. But then again, I didn't even know you posted at SNKT until you told me who you were, so maybe not.

I'm not exactly the most prolific or best known poster so I figured I might as well have another name over there. No worries in any case, thanks for replying.

I've always had a soft spot for Norm. I was a sad boy when 'Norm' was cancelled.

I watch Conan as often as I can, and even though he goes through a lot of the same routine every night, he still has enough to keep me coming back.

I absolutely loathe Ray Romano and his poor excuse for a TV show, and how much exposure it gets over here in Oz despite it being the most annoying show on.

And I just don't get how Jay Leno is where he is.

Edit: And I also hate Mad TV, bar Phil Lamaar and Dave Herman when they were on, just because I love their work on Futurama and Dave's performance in 'Office Space.'

I doubt anyone outside of Canada will have heard of him, and I've never seen his standup act, but Mike Bullard's talk shows were really bad at times. If I were the type of person to get all giddy over someone else's failures, I'd be glad his show was canned after getting a handy whuppin' from The Daily Show in the ratings.

Funny: George Carlin(AKA God of Stand-Up Comedy), Larry David(Genious), Dennis Miller(Cause I get it), Robin Williams(cause he makes me laugh), Dane Cook, Jay Leno(I think he's funny...), Chris Rock(I love racism~!), Eddie Murphy.

Horribly UN-Funny: JACK BLACK, Will Ferrell, That loser who does Mango, Cho, Tom Green(ugh.), Rob Schnieder.

EDIT: Forgot all about my new favorite Bill Maher, GREAT show with lots of real good talks about current events.

THIS is the gospel... except I think Will Ferrel is hillarious. GOULET.

I never got a smile from anything Leno did that no one else couldn't do (Headlines, Jaywalking, etc.). Any comedy he can bring to interviews falls flat, as Conan, Dave, and Jon Stewart remain the only guys I can really watch interviews with.

Tim Allen never got much out of me either. I mark out more for car references in his stand-up than his actual material.

Because his jokes and bits make me laugh. That's a reason why.

If you can say "I find his jokes unfunny and his bits unfunny" then I can say the same thing. That's why I think he's funny.

I saw some Jack Black bashing earlier and I just want to add a vote in favour of him.

I haven't seen all of his stuff (eg I'm never going to watch Shallow Hal because it has Gwyneth Paltrow in it) but what I have seen (Tenacious D stuff, School of Rock) I thought was pretty darned funny.

Rob Schneider however, is not good.
