Giuseppe Zangara Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 I wear 'em, though I still fuck with my ears in myriad other ways; I play music too loudly in my car, on my headphones, etc. Hell, I'm listening to Racebannon's Satan's Kickin' Yr Dick In with some headphones right now, far too loudly. But is there any other way to listen to albums as noisy and abrasive as this:
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 I stood less than 4 feet from a speaker stack at Slayer, completely unprotected. Deaf by thirty for me, please.
snuffbox Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Deaf by thirty for me... But I usually wear earplugs when jamming the 'heavy metuhl' tunes, as thats more of an everyday sorta thing.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted March 17, 2004 Author Report Posted March 17, 2004 I think I have really sensitive ears. I've gone without earplugs before; for instance, at one show a few years back, I didn't wear 'em, nor did my friends. Afterwards, they were able to carry on a conversation, while I was just yelling "What?" repeatedly.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 I usually don't bother with earplugs when I go to shows, thoug sometimes I think I should. When I saw Flogging Molly last year, they were LOUD AS FUCK, and my ears rang for three days.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted March 17, 2004 Author Report Posted March 17, 2004 I stood less than 4 feet from a speaker stack at Slayer, completely unprotected. Deaf by thirty for me, please. I once saw this band called Dalek. At the start of their set, this dude came out with a guitar (which is hooked up to a laptop, by the way) and proceeded to make all sorts of horrible, face-peeling noise. I was wearing earplugs, but I was standing right in front of a speaker. I could feel the vibrations pulsing all throughout my body. It was like bathing in noise. Awesome feeling, that.
Red Baron Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 I stood less than 4 feet from a speaker stack at Slayer, completely unprotected. Deaf by thirty for me, please. Pfft. 20 feet from Motorhead stack at an outdoor concert, and my ears were hurting like hell.
Youth N Asia Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Deaf by 30. You can't be front row for Andrew WK at Warped Tour and wear earplugs...although I couldn't hear shit for the next couple days
Giuseppe Zangara Posted March 17, 2004 Author Report Posted March 17, 2004 although I couldn't hear shit for the next couple days See, this strikes me as stupid. With plugs, you can still hear the music fine, it just won't be so fucking loud.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 My ears have kind of a perpetual hiss anyway, so I don't even really notice the post-concert buzzing sound. You saw a band called Dalek? That's awesome.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 (edited) Afterwards, they were able to carry on a conversation, while I was just yelling "What?" repeatedly. I've never worn them myself, making me a stupidhead. Edited March 18, 2004 by Edwin MacPhisto
KanadianKrusty Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 I don't wear them, neither do my friends, but maybe we should since one of them got permanent ear damage from standing right next to a speaker at a Dio concert 2 years ago.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted March 18, 2004 Author Report Posted March 18, 2004 Afterwards, they were able to carry on a conversation, while I was just yelling "What?" repeatedly. I've managed to go through life hearing no Lil Jon, up until his appearence on the David Banner album, which caused me to laugh my ass off.
Guest Basswitch Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 I stood right near the speaker for the CHicagofest thing that they have each year when Powerman 5000, ANdrew W.K, and Trapt played. I wore earplugs.. but only because after PKMAN5000 i couldnt hear ANYTHING excpet the ringin in my ears.
SamoaRowe Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Deaf by 30? Pfffftt. At the rate I'm going, I'm gonna be deaf by 25. I almost said "deaf by 20" but then I remembered that will be in three months. Oh, and standing in front of the speakers for Ra was real smart.
Guest Choken One Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Deaf by 30? Deaf by 25? Fuck that...Try deaf at 0.
Youth N Asia Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 I don't go to many shows...and very few up front. So I'll be okay
SamoaRowe Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 I don't go to many shows...and very few up front. So I'll be okay Me too, Ra was the only show I've been up front for.
Corey_Lazarus Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 ...one of them got permanent ear damage from standing right next to a speaker at a Dio concert 2 years ago. That could be because the sonic assault of Dio's shittiness was too much for your friend's ears to handle... Deaf by 30 for me.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 I never wear them. But I wouldn't discount wearing them in the future. I don't listen to very much loud and abrassive music that irritates my ears.
Guest Coffey Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 I'm twenty-two years old and I've never been to a concert. Yeah, I know, it's quite tragic and sad.
Guest Choken One Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Choken is deaf? I've gone over this a hundred times...
Art Sandusky Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 I've never known it. Huh, learn something about someone here every day...
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Choken is deaf? I've gone over this a hundred times... Quit alluding to it every second post and no one will nag you about it.
Youth N Asia Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 Vote is currently 14-1...you're alone in this Squirtle
EricMM Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Where do you get them? I don't want to be deaf like my grandmother. It's hard talking to her She should learn signlanguage but she's so old I dunno if she ever will
Giuseppe Zangara Posted March 19, 2004 Author Report Posted March 19, 2004 Where do you get them? Earplugs? Any drugstore should have them. And YNA: you're alone in this Squirtle Everyone's loss but mine, man.
