starvenger 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 4-1 Leafs. About fucking time they showed up to play...
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Hats off to the Leafs. They completely outplayed the Flyers in the 2nd & 3rd. But that had to have been one of the oddest referee'd games I've ever seen in the playoffs. Nothing called through 1.5 periods (and there could have been plenty of interference calls), then the call a ton of stuff in the 3rd. Flyers really got shafted penalty-wise: pretty poor boarding calls against Fedoruk & Brashear (was a joke), Markov gets cross-checked head first into the boards by Mogilny but doesn't get called, the cross-checking call to give the Leafs a 5-on-3 PP. I couldn't believe some of those calls made in the 3rd after seeing everything get let go in the beginning. Penalties were no excuse, the Leafs just whipped the Flyers, but I better not hear Quinn bitch about the refs after this game.

Markme123 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Although I am not a big hockey guy I am interested in the playoffs this year because my hometown team (Sharks) is still in it. I now they could have ended the series last night, but will have to wait til they get back to San Jose. I need to know: Has anyone advanced to the 3rd round yet? Although Sharks aren't one of the favorites, how far do you think they can go? Who are the big favorites (except Tampa)?
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 No, no one has advanced yet ... SJ could have been the first last night, but obviously did not. Tampa Bay could advance with a win tonight (here's hoping the Lightning send the Habs-fans home unhappy). In terms of favorites, Tampa is the overwhelming favorite in the East, and as of now, I'm thinking SJ is the favorite in the West (although either Calgary or Detroit would give the Sharks a run for their money). treble 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 I have a horrible feeling it's going to be a San Jose/Tampa Bay finals. I hope that Montreal can take at least 2 games from the Lightning so that if the Leafs win (and they'll have to go at least 6 games to do it) Tampa won't be sitting at home resting for a week before playing again. Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted April 29, 2004 I have a horrible feeling it's going to be a San Jose/Tampa Bay finals. Why does it have to be horrible? We'd be getting a Stanley Cup final with two fast and exciting teams that do more than grind along the boards and trap. Oh right, those teams come from warm climate areas. I guess there's no possible way a hockey game could be fun to watch if there are players in teal sweaters playing a game in Florida.
treble 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 It's more horrible in that I'd rather Calgary and Toronto come out of the Conference Finals (or, if the Leafs make it, a Toronto/Detroit final would be nice, too). Also, the ice in Tampa is bad enough now in late April, so I doubt it would be any better in June, and shitty ice usually makes for shitty hockey.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 What a great ovation the Habs fans gave their team at the end of the game...it's nice to see fans appreciate a hard-working team, even in defeat.
Urban Warfare 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 2 goals in 18 seconds...Nieminen bennefits from BRUTAL defense by the Wings and it is 2-2.
fairtoflair7 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 Wow...What a game!!! Flames just tied it in 20 seconds on a beautiful deke....This 2nd period is exactly how hockey should be played...back and forth, end to end , fast pace w/scoring and saves...Awesome
lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 Yeah Calgary is playing the game the way it should be played. The Wings are playing so so bad right now for all their talent .
Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 I am so relieved right now. God, I was getting so angry after the two Calgary goals in 18 seconds, but by the time Zetterberg potted the empty net goal for the win, I was ecstatic. Since the next game is in Detroit, they have a real shot to win the series. This is the game Joseph needed to regain confidence, and Saturday should be very interesting. Also, the ice in Tampa is bad enough now in late April, so I doubt it would be any better in June, and shitty ice usually makes for shitty hockey. Perhaps this is my bias coming into play but shitty ice doesn't necessarily make for shitty hockey when you have teams that play agressively. The reason why Dallas was difficult to watch during the late 90s wasn't just because of shitty ice but because they played so god damn conservative. I'm not saying ice isn't a factor, it is but it doesnt have to be a be all-end all of quality play. As far as the finals go while people nationally wouldnt care about a Sharks-Bolts final it would make for great hockey because as I said both teams play an agressive style. Also, do we really need the Red Wings in the finals again for crying out loud. Been there, done that bring on the Sharks or Flames.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 Well, the season is over, and I gotta give credit to Tampa Bay,they deserve to win the series. I wished that Montreal could have win atleast tonights game, so it wasn't a sweep. All I can say is that the team played exceeded expectations, and showed that they can be a very dominate and physical team, and we don't have to rely on Theodore as much. An improvement on defence would really help, and if Kovalev stays, well we would be back there next year (If...)
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 Any truth to the rumor that St Louis shook Ribeiro's hand a bit too tightly during the post-game handshake and "Micky Ribs" floundered on the ice like a fish out of water?
starvenger 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 Any truth to the rumor that St Louis shook Ribeiro's hand a bit too tightly during the post-game handshake and "Micky Ribs" floundered on the ice like a fish out of water? Hah!! Was reading waymoresports.com (aka Toronto Star Sports) and it's interesting to note how Quinn and Hitchcock are not saying anything bad about each other. Most of Quinn's whining/musing/complaints/etc are actually directed at Bobby Clarke. I know these guys are buddies and all, but it's the playoffs, dammit. I want more hate!! Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 Wow, we just had *THE* worst goalie interference call. LeClair is just outside the crease, and his arm barely brushed against Belfour's blocker, and it gets called. The call came ~8 seconds into a Flyers PP. Ri-dic-u-lous.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2004 Can the refs make it any more blatant that they're favoring Toronto in this game? Toronto just got a 5-on-3 PP off 2 *ATROCIOUS* calls. Philly got a PP nullified on an *ATROCIOUS* goalie interference call when the had the puck & were set up in the Toronto end. I thought period 3 of game 3 was bad, this period was as bad or worse. I hate those total BS calls, even if it benefits my team. I'd also like to say that Brian Engblom has become my favourite ESPN hockey analyst simply by recounting the legend of Bill Barilko AND mentioning "Fifty Mission Cap"... starvenger 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2004 You're right, it did. It was still a good tip though. The Flyers have been playing well this period. They need to take better advantage of Belfour's wandering, as he's been caught out of the net a few times already...
