Billy Bob Thornton To Star In Bad News Bears...

Recommended Posts

Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20
Paramount Pictures is developing a remake of The Bad News Bears with Billy Bob Thornton starring and Geyer Kosinski producing, reports Variety.

The project will reteam Thornton with Bad Santa writers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa as the studio signed the scripting duo to a deal based on their pitch for an updated remake of the studio's 1976 comedy, which starred Walter Matthau and Tatum O'Neal.

The original film spawned a pair of sequels, The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training and The Bad News Bears Go to Japan. The film starred Walter Matthau as Morris Buttermaker, a beer-chugging manager coaching a team of misfits in an ultra-competitive Little League.

Oy, hasn't Billy Bob learned from things like the Alamo? I suppose he's all about the quick buck now.

I agree that there is no need for a remake. But since Hollywood has no real original ideas, but to remake classic movies, or in some cases really bad movies. But Billy Bob is a good choice to play Buttermaker. I can see him playing a washed up, alcoholic pool cleaner. My problem is that what is Tanner going to call his team full of. I doubt that they will use the original text.

Given Primary Colors and Bad Santa, Thornton is the only guy I can think of in Hollywood who can pull this off. I just pray that the Bears still loose at the end of this one and that the movie isn't turned into a family-friendly film by some PC motherfuckers.

What did he say? (Although I've got a good idea of what it was, especially if it came from Tanner.) It's been years since I've watched this movie.

However, there will have to be other updates:

1) I seem to remember that chick pitcher making a big deal about someone being on "the pill." That's not a big deal anymore.

2) Kiddies today, when playing sports, a lot of times don't keep score because "losing" would hurt the self-esteem of the tiny tots that don't score as many points...

This remake is going to suck.

Billy Bob is fine and dandy, but you aren't going to find the right group of kids to play the roles.

Not to mention it'll probably end with them winning because movies cannot end badly anymore. It's depressing. WE MUST BE HAPPY AND UPLIFTING!

Something along the lines of "this team is filled with nothing but spicks, jews, nggers, " etc. Something along those lines.

How hard can it be to go hire a bunch of unknown child actors. I don't see what was so special about the original kids that can't be captured again.

except the chick who said it was approx 11 years old, she said, "i'll be getting a bra" soon, meaning she was awfully young to be talking about birth control.

Yeah, but, you just know that's not what they'll do.

"Bad News Bears, starring Billy Bob Thorton, Hillary Duff, Bow'Wow, That stupid kid from JErry McGuire, And etc.!"

I think if they did it now they would PG13 it. It would be bullocks

Uhhhh, the original is rated PG (granted if submitted today it'd probably PG-13). It's not like the kids were saying 'fuck' the whole film. Just alot of "damns, shits, and SOB's"

I think it's surprising a movie where an adult called kids niggers and spics got ONLY a PG. You think some parents would have been offended. I guarantee if it was released today with that rating, people would walk out and demand their money back and file lawsuits against the makers (and maybe even the actors, for example Billy Bob). Parents I guess have changed.

And Tanner couldn't bust out the N word for any less than an R these days

Forrest Gump sure as hell got away with the line

The word nigger itself won't get you an R.

It's all about what context it's in. A mean spirited old prick that people don't like saying it can likely get away with it, as it's showing people who say such things in a negative light. If the kids all said nigger or if it the movie shows people who say such things in a posistive light, they will have problems.

Billy Bob and the writers of Bad Santa are doing the movie, so I don't see the movie being watered down at all. The language in Bad News Bear was nowhere near as bad as Bad Santa, so I don't think them being involved guarantees an R.

It'll be a strong PG-13 and all reviews will warn parents to approach with care. That is unless they say "fuck the kids" and decide to go all out on an R-rated remake.

As long as it doesn't lead to "Bad News Bears in Japan" the remake then I'll be fine.

And wasn't "Hardball" basically a new age Bad News Bears anyway? It sure seemed like it to me.
