The Ill One Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 I'm actually burning a CD on request for a friend, though I wouldn't mind one I guess, and he wants mostly Oldies. Not "let's fuck" but just "love you" type of shit, I'm gonna' go out on a limb and say he wants to use it for extended make out sessions- but whatever. I'm looking for the sappy, pussy, sweet, , whatever Oldies songs that'd do the trick. (No "Let's Get It On" type songs, but like, "Cherish" by the Associations). Thanks (it just feels wrong to have Nasum next to Vogues...) Edit- Okay, got some clarification here- some newer lighter rock songs are cool too, but no hip-hop or metal or anything. ...There goes porncore
razazteca Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 All you need is Barry White, Luther Vandross, Teddy Pendergrass, Levert, Al Green.
Lord of The Curry Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 "At Last" by Etta James. Fuckin ace song if I ever heard one.
tbondrage99 Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 "Love Hurts" By Nazareth, and MAYBE November Rain or Sweet Child O Mine by Guns N Roses.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 "At Last" by Etta James. Fuckin ace song if I ever heard one. Best. Love song. Ever. LOTC: Givin' respect to the old-school Soul
spiny norman Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 Bah. Real romanticism: Paul McCartney - Maybe I'm Amazed The Beatles - Something Elvis - Can't Help Falling In Love Beach Boys - God Only Knows And Love Hurts is *not* appropriate. At all. Unless you're playing the Roy Orbison version, because The Big O will make anyone go putty in your hands.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 Paul McCartney - Maybe I'm Amazed I like McCartney, I really do. But I cannot stand "Maybe I'm Amazed." it comes off as a typical cheesy 70s love song. The lyrics aren't bad, but they're not great either. The music just wrecks the song for me though.
Lord of The Curry Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 This isn't really old-school but I've gotta say, Blood of Eden by Peter Gabriel is a fucking fabulous love song, not sappy at all though. His version on the Secret World Live with Paula Cole is a gooooood song. I'd say it's a Top Ten potential were I to ever seriously make a list.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 In Too Deep - SUM 41 Wait I mean Genesis. Fuck, Phil Collins rules.
Jorge Gorgeous Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 Unchained Melody - Rightchous (Butchered the spelling) Brothers
PLAGIARISM! Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 Closest I get to 'oldies' are Cave, Waits, tindersticks.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 REM-"Losing My Religion" The Police-"Every Breath you Take" Sarah McLachlan-"Possession" If he hasn't been previously stalking this girl, check out a Frank Zappa cover of an old R&B tune called "Lucille has Messed My Mind Up."
B. Brian Brunzell Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 The Police-"Every Breath you Take" GREAT song with dual meanings. I like the fact that it can be taken as a love song, but the stalker aspect to it is even better.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 Obsessive love songs are the best. It's a serious goal of mine to write a good one.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 REM-"Losing My Religion" The Police-"Every Breath you Take" Sarah McLachlan-"Possession" If he hasn't been previously stalking this girl, check out a Frank Zappa cover of an old R&B tune called "Lucille has Messed My Mind Up." Losing My Religion is a love song now? I was gonna say At Last and Unchained Melody, so I will just go with the Beach Boys - Forever or maybe Can't Help Falling In Love, the original version. Why Can't I Fall In Love is sorta romantic depending on how you look at it I guess. It's a great song regardless, but maybe that depends on who you are.
The Ill One Posted May 27, 2004 Author Report Posted May 27, 2004 So far I have- This Magic Moment -Misfits (exception to rule of it being "oldies"). "You're the One" The Vogues "You Were On My Mind" We Five "Cherish" Association "Still the One" Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (Yeah, anothe exception). "At Last" Etta James "Every Breath You Take" The Police (I am just ignoring the fact it's supposed to be about a stalker). "Pale Blue Eyes" Velvet Underground (My friend really likes the song and turned down low you can't tell what's going on but the nice melody). "Gloria" Them "She's the One" Ramones (Cheesy up beat punk at its best). "The Way You Look Tonight" Sinatra Next few I intend on getting, but the band names escape me at the moment. "I Think We're Alone Now" "Just The Way You Look Tonight" "Crimson and Clovers" "Darling Baby" Okay now there's this one Oldies song that if I could just recall a few verses and you could point me in the direction- I'd fuckin' worship you... or slaughter a few goats or something. My girlfriend actually reminded me of the song and I have it playing in my head but I must have the chorus fucked up, because none of the names I'm trying are working. Yeah this is really bare- "With lips so soft Kisses send me aloft" Then something with "Oh won't you hold me tight Stay with me through the night" "I'm so in love with you (whoa)" The chorus sounds like "I'm in love with you darling, yes I do (yes it's true?)" right there it could be anything, I haven't heard it since I listened to Oldies as a lil' kid. In a non-Drury fashion- thanks.
Dogbert Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 "I Think We're Alone Now" and "Crimson and Clover" are both by Tommy James and the Shondells.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted May 27, 2004 Report Posted May 27, 2004 "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling" - The Righteous Brothers "As Time Goes By" - From Casablanca "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" - The Temptations
spiny norman Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 "I Think We're Alone Now" and "Crimson and Clover" are both by Tommy James and the Shondells. I thought I Think We're Alone Now was Tiffany?
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 REM-"Losing My Religion" The Police-"Every Breath you Take" Sarah McLachlan-"Possession" If he hasn't been previously stalking this girl, check out a Frank Zappa cover of an old R&B tune called "Lucille has Messed My Mind Up." Losing My Religion is a love song now? It always has been a love song, in an obsessive stalker way. Just look at the lyrics: Life is bigger It's bigger than you And you are not me The lengths that I will go to The distance in your eyes Oh no I've said too much I set it up That's me in the corner That's me in the spotlight Losing my religion Trying to keep up with you And I don't know if I can do it Oh no I've said too much I haven't said enough I thought that I heard you laughing I thought that I heard you sing I think I thought I saw you try Every whisper Of every waking hour I'm Choosing my confessions Trying to keep an eye on you Like a hurt lost and blinded fool Oh no I've said too much I set it up Consider this The hint of the century Consider this The slip that brought me To my knees failed What if all these fantasies Come flailing around Now I've said too much I thought that I heard you laughing I thought that I heard you sing I think I thought I saw you try But that was just a dream That was just a dream That's crazy obsessed, there.
Guest MissMattitude Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 "True Love Ways" - Buddy Holly That song is just amazing...
Cheex Incarnate Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 "Waltzing Matilda" by the grand fucking master, Tom Waits "She Believes in Me" Kenny Rogers -Cheex
PLAGIARISM! Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 "Waltzing Matilda" by the grand fucking master, Tom Waits He just lifts the chorus for his song, 'Tom Traubert's Blues'. But yeah, that's on my list.
godthedog Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 i wouldn't say "losing my religion" is obsessive at all, it's just about the anxiety of not knowing how someone feels about you.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Whatever. That guy has a nice collection of her trash and panties.
spiny norman Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 Mandy is bloody horrible and only good for comedic value. Some I forgot but just remembered: Lou Reed - Perfect Day Bob Seger - We've Got Tonight Dire Staits - Romeo And Juliet
JangoFett4Hire Posted June 6, 2004 Report Posted June 6, 2004 I always though Losing my Religion was about masturbation? Anyways, how did Sam Cooke escape being mentioned? or Jay and the Americans? And I always thought "Because" by the DC5 was really pretty... And according to Ol' Blue Eyes, the greatest love song ever penned was "Something"... I agree...
