Guest gearhead Report post Posted June 2, 2004 My question is this: Who do you think should become the Number 1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship ?

TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 anyone but HHH or HBK. Preferably Jericho or a Heel Edge on RAW, and Booker T or RVD on Smackdown. Not necessarily because they're main event, but because I'd rather see them than Bradshaw or Jindrak
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 On Raw Jericho, on Smackdown, Booker T or RVD.
Dark Age 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 Jericho should challenge Benoit at Vengeance. Booker T should challenge Eddie at SummerSlam. Triple H should get his rematch against Benoit at SummerSlam. And lose to end the feud. Benoit will then face Christian at Unforgiven or No Mercy (depending on which is Raw). Eddie can maybe drop the belt to Book for a couple of months before getting it back to restart the feud with Kurt. Benoit can then beat heel Shawn to end that feud, then go on to face Edge. He would have had the belt for about 9 months at this point, so maybe have Edge win it or something.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 Heel Edge is the program to go with right now. This is his chance to step up and prove his worth.
Guest Fook Report post Posted June 2, 2004 July - Benoit/Edge August - Benoit/HHH September-October - Benoit/Christian November-December - Benoit/Jericho Have Jericho be the one to beat Benoit, then go into a feud with perhaps a heel turned HBK or Edge until WM. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 I don't understand why people think Benoit will retain over HHH at SummerSlam.
Dark Age 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 I don't think he will, but I think he should. That's what I meant to say. I actually wouldn't be THAT shocked if Benoit did beat H at SummerSlam, but then lost at Unforgiven (or No Mercy).
MrRant 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 Technically I think in most cases the #1 contender should be whoever is the Intercontinental Champion. But Orton is ready yet so.... Jericho.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 Jericho will most likely get his shot at the upcoming RAW in Winnipeg. After that, it's up in the air. WWE would push Orton for a title feud before Jericho.
Krankor 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 Jericho should be the number 1 contender but always seems like he get burried right when the time is right for him to be the number 1 contender. Screw Orton there's no reason he should be number 1 contender seeing how as he has lost twice to a Shelton Benjamin body slam. That doesn't speak highly of Orton. JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 Triple H lost to a Stinger Splash, so what does that say about him?
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 3, 2004 Edge is rumored to be the July contender for Benoit because Michaels wants 6 weeks off to help look after his family and HHH will most likely be filming. Nothing against Edge but this company so has it in for Jericho.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted June 3, 2004 Not that I don't like Edge, but he's not ready to headline a PPV. Give Jericho a Main event payday and job him to Benoit.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 3, 2004 Although I hardly ever see Raw or Smackdown anymore I would say HBK on Raw. Michaels and Benoit would tear the house down given 20-30 minutes on a PPV. Smackdown I would say RVD or Rey Mysterio. RVD could turn heel and become the cocky bastard we all used to love or Rey could have some kind of respect feud which would be awesome in my opinion. Krankor 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2004 Triple H lost to a Stinger Splash, so what does that say about him? It says that Triple H is god for selling a low impact move. Also this says that he should be awarded the title for being such a nice guy and losing to it. Maybe since Benjamin beat Triple H and Orton with such low impact generic moves he should be the number 1 contender because it seems to take every other wrestler 30 minutes in the ring to beat those two in singles action. The Dames 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2004 Not to try and steer this topic in another direction, but I wish WWE would have some sort of official number 1 contender system which they STUCK to in order to decide who the champion faced. That way, you can build up fueds over time because the challenger has to earn his way at the champion to settle it, resulting in highly anticipated matches, in theory. Or, two guys that hate each other so much, they don't care if the title isn't on the line, which could really put over the challengers. Also, it allows the champion to defend the title successfully and have good matches with both heels and faces (setting up other potential "you cost me the title shot" feuds) and build up himself as well as the contenders. I don't know any champion that would be better for this right now than Chris Benoit. Dames

Guest Champ Report post Posted June 6, 2004 SIMPLE: Summerslam RAW JERICHO VS. BENOIT - World Heavyweight title Benoit loses and turns heel. Smackdown Eddie vs. Chavo - WWE championship Why? - The only real over heel in Smackdown Or I will hate myself for saying this but Undertaker vs. Eddie Will work if Taker decides to put Eddie over. iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Well, as long as Smackdown doesn't have a July PPV (which they don't, right?), then Angle has to be the #1 contender there, since Angle/Eddie is the only Smackdown feud which is high-quality enough to sell a big show like Summerslam. On Raw, it's a little more complicated. For a while, I thought they could really do something with this Kane/Benoit feud, but since they're giving it no build and Kane is losing to frigging Eugene, they might as well just move on to the next guy. I think what they really need to do now to keep the title picture interesting is for HBK or Edge to turn heel and get a quick run with the belt. Since HBK is stale and ready for a heel turn, I'll pick him to get the next run, but either way they have to do something to shake up the title picture soon. If Benoit doesn't have any real threats, he becomes a boring champion.
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Screw Orton there's no reason he should be number 1 contender seeing how as he has lost twice to a Shelton Benjamin body slam. clean rob 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 It's supposed to be an exploder suplex, believe it or not. I only caught the move once, but I thought it was an exploder suplex with a floatover. Only JR called it a 'powerslam', which it definitely was not. I say go with the classic tag-team break-up leading to a title match between Benoit and a heel Edge. If it goes well then perhaps even have a rematch at Summerslam, or at Unforgiven if HHH is desperate to ME the big PPV. If it doesn't, then Jericho or HBK can step in. spiny norman 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 July: Edge/Benoit August: Angle/Guerrero and HBK/Benoit with Michaels winning. September: Mysterio/Guerrero October: Christian/HBK and for their second PPV Benoit/HBK with Michaels turning heel. November: Big Show/Guerrero and face Flair/HBK, just to give Flair his last big PPV title shot. December: Big Show/Guerrero. January: Booker T/Guerrero and Benoit/Jericho/HBK. February: Jericho/HBK. Wrestlemania: Triple H/Guerrero and face Orton/HBK with HHH and Orton going over. How's that for long term booking?
Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 No offense, but it's terrible and confusing. How does HHH get to SmackDown? Maybe I just don't want to live in a world where HHH and Randy Orton both walk out of WrestleMania as heel world champions. EDIT: Several hours later, I realize this might be a parody of WWE booking with HHH and Orton being the sole beneficiaries, in which case, good show.
Guest Nater Report post Posted June 7, 2004 long term whating?? It's impossible to say for certain whats gonna be hot for business, what is bad for show is force feeding your audience... I think Vince almost figured that one out (but that may be as delusional as WWE being credible). A rivalry between Edge and Benoit would have been a great way to start the Canada tour. Eddie vs anybody-not-JBL
