Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 ..Why be nicer if that's what you meant?
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 People don't seem to understand the difference between having a different idea and showing respect. The majority of you should go back and enroll in the second grade again because you obviously just got a free pass the first time around.
Guest BDC Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Y'know, the thing that boggles my mind is that ROBERT BYRD issued a release to the other Senate Dems about Regan that was NICE.
CanadianChris Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 People don't seem to understand the difference between having a different idea and showing respect. The majority of you should go back and enroll in the second grade again because you obviously just got a free pass the first time around. If a person had no respect for someone when he was alive, why should that change because he's dead?
Firestarter Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Surprisingly, Tyler had it mostly right. As for politicising President Reagan's legacy, showing respect for the dead, coming together in a time of grief, and all the rest of that nauseating touchy-feely garbage - please don't make me laugh. I loved President Reagan, I respected and admired his leadership, wisdom, and courage. I'm saddened by our loss as a nation, and I'll attend President Reagan's funeral, and I'll pray for him then as I've prayed for him many times already. But the cold clear objective truth is this: his death, just as the election season has begun to swing into gear, is quite literally manna from heaven. Politicise his death? Oh, you betcha. Guys, I'm sorry, but if I have my way we're going to make you swallow that flag-draped coffin sideways. Everything you've ever said to disparage this great man will be dug up, dusted off, painted in spiffy new colours and put on a goddamn pedestal under a really bright spotlight for all the world to see. And the state funeral ceremonies are going to make the Pope's anointment and enthroning look like amateur night at a small-town kindergarten in Wisconsin. I'm talking military honour guards in full dress uniform, the flag hanging from every conceivable surface, parades and horses and processions and motorcades and in-formation flyovers. I'm talking 21 gun salutes until you can barely hear marching band after marching band playing The Star Spangled Banner. I'm talking about the full awesome power and majesty of the American Presidency refocused like a laser into the most dazzling 24-hour media event of the year. For weeks. Don't bother to pretend the Democrats would do anything differently. You wouldn't. And I promise you, we won't either. And you know what? When the Gipper glances down from heaven, he'll give us a huge grin and a big thumbs-up. God bless you, Mr President. Requiescat in pace - on November 3rd.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Surprisingly, Tyler had it mostly right. Now I've know that death can bring the living closer together, but damn...
Vyce Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 What did any of you expect? Did someone here mistakenly believe that Eric S had anything close to resembling good taste or tact? Heaven forbid an American have a different opinion then yours. I find it incredibly amusing that you say this, since Eric S is doing what all good little left-wing people are supposed to be above: he's spewing venomous hatred against a man simply because he disagreed with him politically. Why, what a downright CONSERVATIVE trait he's exhibiting.

I've decided that getting annoyed by what dumbshit writers on a web site think, or a hack cartoonist who wouldn't know a joke if it blew him, or a writer of crappy political books thinks about much of anything. -=Mike
Guest SP-1 Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 ..Why be nicer if that's what you meant? Rant's wording isn't necessarily what I mean. For instance, I don't think everyone on the board is a bitch. People are people and they each have their faults but I'm not going to sling mud. However, given the cultural language of today, the spirit of what I would have said was summed up in Rantie's harsher version. That everyone is acting like children over what an internet columnist has to say is honestly pretty funny. Personally, I think what happened was deplorable. But I'm not going to write a thesis on it, and I have little intention of giving that particular website any attention over it. Rant nailed it on the head. In spirit.
Shooting Star Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I thought Eric S was. If he's an American citizen I hope somebody on the streets beats him up. I do know that Scott Keith and one of the 411 Music Reviewers are Canadian though and have shat on Reagan's memory. Eric S is from Chicago. He got fired from thesmarks after 9.11 when he said some disparaging things about Barbara Olsen. And 411 has lots of good writers who don't think of President Reagan as a bad guy. I'm one of them. Well except for the good writer part Dude you are a good writer you are the only reason i go on 411

Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Name one conservative that criticized Wellstone post-mortem. Just one. Go ahead. Rush Limbaugh. Thanks for your time. Also: I have less problems with politicizing this event than I do with people bitching about the politicizing of Wellstone's death (which was incredibly mild, contrary to the news coverage of it) and then turning a blind eye to the politicizing of this event. It's politics, for Chrissakes, they're gonna politicize everything they can. Don't pretend that your side would NEVER DO IT EVER; that's simply a heaping crock of shit.

Didn't Savage say something controversial too? I remember hearing something about it but of course it wasn't really a big deal because... it's just Michael Savage

Hogan Made Wrestling Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I have to laugh about people calling Scott Keith a "Canadian leftist" when he has been quite public in the past of his support for the populist right wing Reform/Canadian Alliance party.
Guest netslob Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Eric's Follow-up...be warned...you MAY be offended...
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Oh, on a side note, wtf is up with this whining I've been hearing from some groups about putting Ronnie's face on currency? Jesus, how petty... I think it's mostly just because people don't want one of their favorites bumped off of currency in favor of someone else. Personally I think they should go with the $10 bill route since Hamilton isn't a president. On a related note, someone today was actually suggesting that they rename the Pentagon after Reagan. Personally I think that's a bad idea, it's too well-known both in name and in appearance.
Guest BobbyWhioux Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I say if they absolutely must put him on something, put him on a dollar coin. Maybe it'll finally get people in this country to accept one instead of reacting like "OMG socialism!!!!!111" when they see one, just like they did with the metric system. Seriously, every time I have dollar coins in my till at work, and I try to give them out as change, people like go nuts on me like I'm trying to rip them off, or "I can't use this shit I want a real dollar!" Idiots are just shallow enough in this country that they might change their stance if they put him on it, since they worship Reagan so much (might as well get something good and productive out of that reverence). Yeah, my problem with putting Reagan on the dime is that it bumps FDR off. Well, that and I don't think Reagan's currency worthy. But even if I were to assume for the sake of argument that he was...
Guest thebigjig Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 If they're going to get their way, I say the $20... Hamilton was too important history wise to be bumped off... those that think FDR should be bumped need electroshock
CanadianChris Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 On a related note, someone today was actually suggesting that they rename the Pentagon after Reagan. Personally I think that's a bad idea, it's too well-known both in name and in appearance. This sounds like another Reagan National Airport in the making. (For those not familiar, the Washington, DC airport is shortened to "National," not "Reagan," when referencing it. Mention "Reagan" and people have no idea what you're talking about. Found this out the hard way on my first business trip there.)
cynicalprofit Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I swear some of you act like Regan was Jesus or something.
Highland Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I swear some of you act like Regan was Jesus or something. I thought they refered to GW Bush that way?
Guest thebigjig Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I swear some of you act like Regan was Jesus or something. I thought they refered to GW Bush that way? Reagan is the holy father... Bush is the son... Democrats are the jews
Guest Brian Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Democrats are the jews This is classic. KKK is going to role over this one.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Wait, so was this guy actually collecting a welfare check, or was that some inside joke? If you have time and capacity to write 18,000 words of internet column in about 3 days, I'm going to eat your welfare check.

kkktookmybabyaway Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Yeah he usually starts a new job every other month or so. Says worlds about his people skills. This is classic. KKK is going to role over this one. Hell no. I'm not rolling over all those pointy noses. Lord knows how many punctures I'll endure. Worse yet, my wallet will probably disappear as well...
Jobber of the Week Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Nixon didn't even get that kind of reaction. Sorry, but Nixon is the kind of man that could drive Republians to change affiliation to Independants. Reagan was the kind of man who could bring them back.
Jobber of the Week Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Eric's Follow-up...be warned...you MAY be offended... Awww, I didn't get posted.
Jobber of the Week Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 And you know what? When the Gipper glances down from heaven, he'll give us a huge grin and a big thumbs-up. This is almost like The Daily Show. "President Bush's campaign plans to run negative attack ads all week. *sniff* Because... *wipes tear* Because the Gipper would've wanted it that way."
