ESPN NFL 2K5 Thread

The only bad, bad thing I'm hearing about the game stems from Franchise mode as it seems the CPU AI is making crazy, stupid trades, cuts, signings, etc.

The only thing that would make sense about that cutting is if he got injured and his rating went down greatly.

I've come up with a work-out regime thus far that is absolutely great for the QB, O-Line, Punter, and Kicker...but it drops the D-Line stats alot. Mild improvement to nothing at all for WR, Secondary, and LBer corp.

Why are you spending time with your punter?

He's a kicker, you get him some time on the field then he's fine. Same goes for your kicker, one workout week and he's good for the season as long as he's not missing (trust me, plus if you are NE then why are you bothering??).

Also, for the love of god why are some of you using the same prep every week? For example, why would you beef up your run defense against a team you know is going to pass like Buffalo?

You have to set up your workouts for the team ahead, not leave them set. If you prep your team for a running attack and the team is pass based, you'll get slammed cause you won't be prepared for the attack. If you work your ground attack hard against the #1 rush defense in the game, you'll be screwed cause your passing game didn't get the time needed to succeed against that team's weakness. You adjust from week to week to build the team for the opponent, not the entire season cause that doesn't happen until offseason from what I can tell. The stats don't stay down or up, that is the stats for them for that game. They return to normal after or at least mine have been.

Change the prep from week to week. For example, if you worked on the O-line's time with blitz last week then work on footing the next week. If you sent them to the weight room for chest last week, then work the arms the next week.

I stressed pass coverage/blitz against Buffalo and picked off Bledsoe four times and sacked him 7. I worked mildly with pursuit for the outside linebackers to contain Henry of course but I knew the key of the Bills attack.

Remember, it's prep for the GAME not prep for the season.

I thought it was Prep for the season. I haven't even started a franchise game...I was too busy getting beat by a Carmen Electra FG with no time left on the clock :(

No wonder, those damn celebs have freakin SUPER TEAMS. It's not even fair.

If I had my regular season Cards with a week of prep, I'd kick their ass. I haven't lost since NE handed me my head, my ass and my heart.

Well I've noticed that Carmen employs everything pass related. Her offense is built on the pass and she does nothing but employ zone coverage with the occasional man-to-man. When I get the motivation to do so I'm just going to shove a healthy dose of Corey Dillon down her throat. With the amount of men she's had I'm sure she can take the punishment, but a winner will be me!

Good luck, I hate that feature cause they are the most annoying people when they talk.

But for those playing franchise, remember the prep mode is just week to week and not for the whole season. At least as far as I can tell. If you keep working them then yes, they might so minor improved but nothing that sticks around.

I figure I'll get alot of Cribs points for beating her, and my main focus right now is still drafting Chris Berman to cause him serious physical pain. I only hope that I get the option to later on draft Stuart Scott so I can kill them both.

You want to waste a pick on CHRIS BERMAN just to hurt him? You know how insane that is?

I admire that.

Can anybody comment on how hard you have to press the buttons?

I noticed for ESPN Basketball I had to press really hard on the xbox controller, whereas with ESPN Baseball it was normal. It also seems normal on EA Sports titles. Any opinions appreciated...

I'm not pushing hard at all and not having any problems.

As for the trades, they have made sense. It's mostly trading guys they know they can't resign to teams making a playoff push for players they can use but have no reason to want to resign.

The game is very much cap aware of the situations which I like.

Thanks 2G, you just saved me a rental... I can't wait till Thursday, 15 bucks at Target.

You should never trust my judgement.

I grew up on smashing the buttons of Tecmo Super Bowl as I watched Bo Jackson torch my ass.

:P

I actually love this game compared to Madden. Madden was just horrible as a defensive game while in this one I've had defensive struggles AND offensive wars. Course, I am Arizona and I'm 7-1 but that is thanks to my defense grabbing big picks and Neil Rackers nailing his FGs with ease.

Plus NE is the only "real" opponent I think I faced and they crushed me into a fine powder.

Not only that but I'll work him out like a madman during the week. If he ever saw the way I'm going to treat him I believe he would cry and demand the game be taken from me.

I bought Chris Berman and they made him a QB?! How is he not a Nose Tackle or an O-line man?!

Just a quick question...are the celebs for everyone in the same order? Cuz I hear about some that people are facing..and it makes me realize I suck against the celebs :( well at least who I'm currently on. David Arquette. (Was he number 3 for you all?)

Well actually I didn't suck..I just didn't feel like playing anymore at the time..but it seemed like after that the bastards just started catching passes like a bitch.

So far I have played Jamie Kennedy who I lost to in the final seconds, because I was fooling around too much and then Funkmaster or whatever his name is, who handed it to me for awhile before I rallied for a close loss. When I get home from class tonight they are both getting their asses kicked.

I have played only Carmen Electra, and beat her team.

Do all of these "celebrities" have Pro Bowl caliber teams?

And does anybody have the sales numbers for this game? Just curious to see how they look, right now.

I really need to work on the way I'm playing for franchise. I'm going to get Jeff Garcia killed if I keep running with him as much as I have been.

So their stats change for the week only for the weekly preparation feature? Well, that explains a lot. So, I assume they go up or down permanently in the offseason ala Madden?

Has anyone simmed a franchise to offseason mode or gotten there yet and seen what it's like?

anybody know how many minutes I should set simulated games on so that I don't end up with scores such as 56-54, 65-37, etc.? How about actual game playing minutes? I usually set games on 10 minute quarters, been doing that for years on Madden, and though my stats were realistic for the most part (yardage-wise), I ended up beating the Jags with the Bills in week 1 56-0...

I just finished my first season in franchise last night. For some reason Duce Staley retired, he was pretty young and had a big season. One thing that I thought was cool was that Plaxico Burress had been injured 3 times during the year and never really got to recover fully from any of them and he ended up having his rating drop big time. I think he started at a 90 and ended up at a 74 because of the injuries he suffered. One thing I thought was strange, though was that I got the best player in the draft, an 81 rated corner, with the 27th pick.

Frigid, you should have waited to unlock David Arquette and punish him horribly instead. Well, either that or put him in demeaning training regimens.

I don't know why you guys are complaining about the celeb's all-star teams. Just go and either pick the all-NFL, all-NFC, all-AFC, or any of the alumni teams if it's a problem. I would like to add that I hate Carmen Electra. During the game, she's bragging about how awesome she is, then when she loses says "I guess I should learn how to play the game first." Yeah, right. You didn't have problems before I kicked your ass.

Well, after I unlock what I want to (Mostly free agents and the like) I'll probably start a franchise with some team...

Quick question for those who have been playing this longer than I have. Are Eric "I can't pass well but I'm good at kick and punt returning" Crouch and Old Man River, AKA Darrel Green in the game? For some reason, I feel that I must add them to my team.

I set all simulated games for my franchise at 5 minutes. It works perfectly.

So far, I'm 5-5 with my Bills franchise.

ESPN is a refreshing change from years and years of Madden. Defense actually means something. The running game, while the running backs still look like their taking dick up their ass while running... it's much more realistic and a lot more fun once you get the hang of it... unlike Madden's style of running: "Find a hole. Speed burst."

I love ESPN... but for those people who were getting it, expecting to compare it to Madden, you will be disappointed.

So far I'm 7-1 with the Bills, my only loss being to the Ravens.

Troy Vincent has 5 INT TDs.

Sam Adams has 15.5 sacks.

Who needs an offense? :)

Anyone have a player get his career ended on the field?

In 2k4 I had 2 players get their career ended during the franchise mode.

First Mike Mcmahon got DESTROYED while scrambling and going for a run.

Then I had a rookie DE had a freak leg injury when a teammate trip over his leg. I found that to be hilarious! Even though I had the expensive bastard locked up in a contract for 2 more years.

It's cool actually hitting the replay and see exactly HOW the injury may have happened.

I'm imagine you can still see how players get injured in greater detail in 2k5 right?

I'm currently 7-0 with the Falcons.

Mike Vick is 3rd in the league in passing, only behind Carson Palmer and Trent Green.

Peerless Price is 1st in receiving with 1180 YDS and 13 TD's.

But, does anyone notice how easy it is to end up on the injured list in this game ? I've got somebody from my defense go down at least 1 time a game. I have 4 players on the injured list, 1 out for the season. My defense rating has gone from 88 to 71.

Other than that, I love this damn game.

This game seems like it is really good especiallya t a price tag of $20 dollars, but Madden sounds better to me. With the new hitstick and the better D along with players actually having personality now. Especially if youg et the collectors version.

Something tells me I'll be making my own team full of these unlockable characters and fill the rest of the needs with FA scrubs. They better all not be QBs though, cause that would piss me off.
